"Stu, you smell nice, Thank You !" When Davy put his hand inside Stu's rugby shirt, it mad me quiver. So tender and raw, Yes, it brings back memories of teenage angst. Double difficult when it comes to teenage homosexuality !
I'm back watching this short probably 10 years later.I just love it! I just thought of it and had to see it again. I think we all would love to have had a Stu when we were their age.
By far one of my favorite gay coming-of-age short films. The endearing feels and touching aura it exudes is just so beautifully filmed and executed-words almost fail to describe it. Truly this one is a gem among so many other films like it and I proudly recommend everyone watch this as it sticks with you after the credits roll. Nicholas Cutro and Travis Walters were both so lovely when they starred in this piece and the chemistry they had is too angelic and pure. The subjects of boyhood folkloric fears, future goals, and adolescent romantic feelings are wonderfully illustrated in the script. God bless everyone who helped create this film.
omg, what an exquisite little film... honest and pure... these boys and their innocent dance of seduction and desire actually brought me to tears, and had me cheering. thank you for posting this treasure.
I just realized the double meaning of the final conversation about fearing what one does not know!!! I love this short film, 2nd favorite I have ever seen.
One of the best short films I have ever seen. I keep coming back to it over and over again. The plot works on many levels. What is clear, of course, is their deep love and affection for each other. Both Davy and Stud are American actors and are not Scottish. Stu is is actually an Italian American and has the classic looks of an Italian,. Trust me, I see his good looks every day on the train here in Rome. LOL. He looks more like an Italian soccer player than anyone from Scotland! LOL. Concerning the accent or what is better described as a dialect of English, at first it is difficult to understand. However, if I as an Italian can understand it after a few viewings , native speakers of English, even Americans with the little patients, will certainly be able to understand the dialogue. Believe me, it is well worth the effort. Ciao!
Basically for those of you who don't understand, there is a LOT of Folklore here in the U.K and this story uses folk stories to add a twist. Not many will get it just because people tend to know or hear about stuff like "bloody mary" more than any other foreign folk tale. You have to have had the experience to understand. They're talking about a bedtime story they grew up with, which has a complex impact on them and how their relationship develops. I saw this Years Ago and it still is a Top one in my books.
Abby Curtis Nothing to it really. It's just typical boy talk from them. You know, what they want out of life not to mention the folktale of Jenny Greenteeth which is probably a rumor to scare the shit out of each other. Either way it's a plain and simple but cute story nonetheless!
This is my comfort short since I was 14 and was struggling with depression, anxiety and a toxic family and homophobia... It's very dear and special to me til this day ❤
Truly a beautiful film and a great story. You can feel the attraction and energy in almost every moment. When Davy finally touches Stu’s chest under his shirt, it’s explosive. Just lovely. I know this was completed years ago but someone should add English sub-titles. UA-cam’s auto-generated closed-captioning program cannot understand the accent. I hate losing any of this story. Great film.
It's a wonderful, sensitive film with a touching ending. The reason people are having so much trouble with the accents is that they are all over the place. Sometimes it's Scottish. Sometimes it's Ulster. Sometimes it's the Irish Republic. Occasionally, the vowels are New England. They needed a dialogue coach very badly, but maybe the budget couldn't stretch to it. It's so sad that the younger actor, Travis Walters, who played Davy, died at only 21.
The way they look at each other sometimes indicates a certain attraction and Stu is undeniably extremely cute. They talk about this and that, get close and move apart and finally, Stu makes a move.... but the camera moves away and the credits begin to roll when I suppose they are about to kiss, which is what I at least was hoping to see. Great setting, good acting till that point and it's nice to hear Scottish voices for a change.
I'm Australian, and to me they sound perfectly normal.... my half-sister's grandparents were from Northumbria, and my own great-great-grandparents were Irish, so my mother pretty much grew up (and as a consequence, I did too) accustomed to the speech patterns and accents of Scottish, Irish and Northerner English....
Jonathon Woodgate As this video was published by CanadianJewel, I first thought it is a Canadian dialect. Then I realised it sounded quite much like over here, in Newcastle, UK ^^. It makes the story even cuter :D (a confused French guy ^^)
so, i've now watched this probably ten times.... and it is by far one of the most beautiful shorts on young love i've seen, ever. the filmmaker achieves, in a mere 15 minutes, what many filmmakers can not in six or seven times the length. it is simply perfect.
I'm a native Spanish speaker and I understood (not every single word) but most of it, idk why are there actual native English speakers complaining about the accent. Beautiful film btw
This was an excellently done short. From the dialog to the shot blocking, all great stuff. Both actors were really good too, especially the one playing Stu, he portrayed the nervousness of the situation spot on.
THAT was heartening!! Beautiful conversation complete with all the awkwardness of youth!! I LOVE IT!!! It was a little difficult to get used to the accent at first, being American (we're not used to it) but after about 30 seconds I got the whole thing, I'm in LOVE with Stu!!! >sigh< so pretty!
Loved everything about this one. What's hysterical about this one? the closed caption. Thought I needed it for the accent. Then realized how off it was. Could be a new hobby.
This is my ultimate favorite short film. U can see the love in both their eyes

Yes, because you too the utmost reality of that kiss given by the sublime -- and the location and the handling of it shows a true filmmaker. Thee moment when Davy skips through the wood and makes that lovely exuberant turn stops, and when we find out the his collection of bits of flowers, including the "he-loves-me he loves me not' pulling of the petals of the daisies all the while collecting a beautiful arrangement he sends floating in the pond as a memorial to the boy who was swallowed u by the quaking bog through the medium of the most astonish acting in one so young (16) exhibits the epitome of a truly angelic youth -- and the constant pleading in Stu's eyes is a acting achievement of equal force. Every producer, director and actor in every short in this series and any kind of serious filmmaking at all should watch "Davy and Stu" -- study it in fact, because it in nothing less than a benchmark in thee art of the motion picture
Very moving film. Brings back memories of my own awkward moments trying to convey affection with the uncertainty of the reception I would receive. Thanks CJ.

This is the one single film among the many excellent ones in this beautiful line on films dealing with one of the most important events in human life, when two boys acknowledge the fact that they have move beyond bewildering friendship and fallen in love with each other., which is kissed by the sublime, in which myth and magic, not always happy, come to a kind of sacramental truth.
I will never not be able to watch this. It is lovely and slightly heartbreaking. Heartbreaking because I grieve not having a Stu when I was Davy’s age. This is one of the best shorts I’ve ever watched.
This is so well done. At first I did have trouble understanding the conversation but after watching this a few times i pretty much understand it. Its just a casual conversation between two boys who meet at the bog after school. through their conversation you can pick up that they have a romantic relationship. so sad to find out Travis Walters died tho :(
Travis Hachy Walters (Saturday, September 8th, 1990 -Tuesday, April 24th, 2012), who played Davy, died suddenly at his New York, New York, USA home. May he rest in peace!
And the camera view meanders off them just before the kiss. This fould have easily gone on or even had a follow up but it was smart enough to leave you wanting more but satisfied that it closed on a precious appreciation and the knowledge they cared for one another. It said all it needed to say.
Like several others, I am viewing this brilliant short film again after many years. My question is where did @CanadianJewel, creator of this UA-cam channel go? He was quite handsome and fairly young. If he is active elsewhere on social media l’d be relieved to know he’s okay.
Simplesmente incrível! This short movie and Amazing in every detail! In addition to the movie being based on an award-winning play. Is one of the short films that impresses me most today!
Germano Lopez what award-winning play are you talking about? Do you mean this short movie is based on a play? Can you please share the name of the play then! Thank you.
Another "jewel!" Thank you guys! There were several comments about the accent--It was perfectly understandable--I don't think it was Irish--was it northern English, border Scots? Beautiful in any case....
They are meeting in the woods because they are in a small town. Davy knows he's gay and is comfortable with it. Stu isn't yet, but they care for eachother. So ots mostly just them going back and forth trying to say how they feel without saying how they feel. So there is your context
Quite a lovely story..But my inner nitpicker would like to point out that these aren´t old enough to be "two men" as mentioned in the description..."Two guys/boys " would be more accurate... Thanks for uploading.Loved their accents:)
I remember the time When I got my first kiss it was in 5th grade Ps im still in the class with him and we secretly hold hands during class still 😊 P.s. who elese likes there own comments cause they know that no one else will

One of the best short films. Subtle, innocent and sweet. Portrays all the awkwardness and intensity I remember about young love in a realistic way.
So many years and I'm still back to this vid. So much nostalgia!
omg, what an exquisite little film... honest and pure... these boys and their innocent dance of seduction and desire actually brought me to tears, and had me cheering.
thank you for posting this treasure.
Beautiful film. So tragic that Travis (Davy) passed away. So young and talented. :(
WTF When how omg ?
that was so adorable, he had a shower to smell good to impress the other boy. bless
does he do that all the time or did he finally kind of get into the sexual-love thing bc he was late bc he showered so he can smell good around him?
@@joekerr8584Davy said that he's always filthy, so we can assume he took a shower just to impress the other boy
Brilliant!! Well written, well acted!! Truly a breath of fresh air in this jaded world. Congratulations and thank you.
Philip Steeves subtle and yet....
Coming back to watch this 6 years later ! I still love this so much.

It's Broad Scottish. It is indeed a separate dialect from Standard English.

Such a beautiful back and forth between the two boys. frightened, overwhelmed, exploring new territory...

That was gripping acting from start to finish. Brilliantly and so beautifully done! Amazing little film.
I love this! It's all so... intense yet completely believable and I find it easy to imagine as a real life event in the lives of these two boys.
This was so cute, but now I'm terrified of Jenny Greenteeth o.o.
