My mom never understands how much my hermit crabs need and how bad the stores treat them, so I showed her this channel and she was instantly switched to loving hermit crabs
I'm in a hermit crab group that helps people care and there's someone who breeds hermit crabs! she's very gentle with them and always has people take a picture of their setup before adopting (: it's a great group and they're very helpful
I love these videos. I had hermits as a kid I even had a one for 11 years! After he passed I didn't get anymore as I do not agree with the way they are captured from the wild. Then my Aunt rescued one from a friend of hers who no longer wanted it because of the extensive care they require so now I'm back in the hermit crab game. A few weeks after getting that one I was able to aquire another one through a rescue group. I'm literally obsessed with making sure they have the best lives possible!
They were giving them away at a halloween party at my moms work(in Tiny little plastic cauldrons with a baggie of three pieces of food) 🙄🙄. So I took one because I just wanted to at least try to save One if I could and give him a good life. Have had Marcel for just over two years now. Thank you for the tips.
When I got my crab I needed so much help!! I watched your video and bam! I got a amazing tank for her! My dad is even going to get me another soon! This helped so much thank you!!!
Thank you for this video. I just adopted 4 hermit crabs and only got a crash course on how to take care of them habitat-wise. This really helps me in getting their new aquarium setup just right. THANKS!!!
Hi lori I love how kind you are when people give you suggestions and how you don’t say “I’ve had my crabs for 9 years i. Know what I’m doing” Your just amazing thank you for these videos!
I want to thank you for this video. I wanted to get my 5 year old son one and I am a firm believer in recreating their natural environment and was willing to spend whatever i needed to to make sure the crab could lead a great long life. But, once you said that the stress very easy and handling should be to a minimum to nothing at all, that right there was enough information to help with our decision. Kids love to handle their pets and I will not be getting one.
So I went to ocean city on vacation with my family, and we were all unaware of the neglect that the hermit crabs withstand. We bough some thinking they would be easy work, but my mom was researching and realized that they only live a couple months to a few years in captivity, when their lifespan is about 30 years. We quickly realized that we needed to put a lot of effort into our crabs. If we had known about how difficult they were we probably wouldn’t have gotten them, but we figured they’d be much better off with us. We got them and new tank with stuff to climb on and lots of space. They’re happy and healthy now. After seeing how they were treated in stores I want to start something to make it illegal to sell them in places like this, or at least to create a better environment to keep them in. The way they are treated is wrong and disgusting. It’s obvious that they are all about the money, because the shorter they live, the more people come back to get them. Please do not buy them without reading, because if you do they’re in for a long time of suffering.
When I began working at petsmart, I thought their hermit crab set up was fine (shallow soil mix, branches to climb) but after learning more about them I tripled the height of their soil layer and gave them a few climbing walls. I also made the enclosure bioactive with springtails so we wouldn't have to disturb them as often with deep cleans. They are THRIVING at my store now, and I always love catching them climbing their big ladder 😌I am SO HAPPY that there is more success in captive breeding because the captive bred hermies seem much less prone to the stressors of captivity
I got my first hermit from a military family that was having to move and didn't want to take the crabs with them. By the time I contacted them they only had one left from the three so I brought Pebbles (or Sushi as they named him) home. My second I did buy but it's because Pebbles was showing signs of depression from being lonely. Ever since Boulder moved in Pebbles has perked right up and has been climbing and digging daily. Funny thing about Pebbles is that he LOVES carrots. He'll try to burrow the darn thing with him and carry it around. He even snuggles them like a teddy bear.
THE INTRO 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I LOVE you for this!! You took what I’ve been preaching and made it public!!! I’m aware this video was obviously posted a few years back, but that’s the gem about this specific video-I am just now seeing it being that I am a hermit crab owner (6 beach bought hermies all bought at different times) and I’m still learning and searching everyday for the best honest information, to give my hermits the best life I possibly can. Thank you, thank you for being so extremely real about this topic!!

Just recently bought my two adult hermit carbs a 40 gallon tank, had them for bout 5 years, and I improved my tank yesterday because of this video! Ty!
Ok, buckle up kids. Imma bout to rant. I am a twelve year old girl who has always loved animals. I have owned many pets that I have payed for myself with my own money (supplies included). Not only that, I have spent weeks and weeks educating myself about the animals before I get them. This helps me understand more about them, see if I can provide them with as much care as they need, and so I can map out the amount of money I need to get all of the proper equipment. My older sister just set up her fish tank and bought a lot of fish. A school of tiger fish, some silver dollars, a black molly and a snail named Gary. She suggested that I should get hermit crabs at the dinner table, and my whole family supported that idea. I immediately retired to my room to learn more about them. It’s been 5 weeks, and I know a lot about crabs thanks to wiki how and UA-cam. But something I noticed is that people who own crabs tell people that they shouldn’t get hermit crabs, mainly because the people who buy them are children and uneducated parents. They then justify why they own hermit crabs, and that reason is usually, “ I’ve had my hermit crabs for years.” I personally think that’s a terrible excuse. You say that the way they are caught is inhuman and you shouldn’t support that. And I totally agree with that. It’s horrible the way they are caught. But they caught them like that since forever. The fact that you bought your crabs in a painted shell proves that you bought them in the same condition. And the fact that you bought them like that might mean that you didn’t have much knowledge about them. I don’t find it fair how people are always saying that kids buy hermit crab because they are stupid and think they’re easy to care for, when that’s not always the case. No hate to you, I just don’t think it’s right to say that.
I'm super new to hermit crabs, and your videos are really helping! Today I switched their tank to eco earth with a little bit of sand that I was already using I hope that's ok! I didn't know about how badly hermits were treated in captivity/farming before I got them. I think I had a feeling but wasn't sure? I fell in love with them though and with your help I think I'm slowly improving their quality of life. At least much more then where I found them!
The new enclosure looks great! I never knew they ate Vegetables and never knew what they actually ate. Thanks for the information and not encouraging anyone to get them.
Thank you so so much! I just adopted 4 hermit crabs and they were in a 10 gal tank. I got a 50 gal tank for $10 on fb marketplace!!!! Since seeing your video I have set it up with tons on climbing stuff and LOTS of new shells, and ecoearth with the sloped setup for digging! 2 of my little guys have already changed shells!!! One tries about 5 different ones and ended up in his original, and one tried 2 or 3 and seems happy to upgrade. Thanks for the info your videos are so helpful!
I went to my local lake and there was hermit crab stores so I went in them and sadly mine just passed away so I got 2 more and I have little cousins and they always say ( can I hold them) and I say no but I love your videos because I always learn something new!
Finally someone who knows what they’re doing. Although... it’s best to do a 5:1:1 substrate mixture. 5 parts washed play sand, 1 part eco earth, other parts oyster shell & worm castings! Also, all and any store bought herm food is horrible for them - I’m so happy to see you’re feeding fresh!
I used to love looking for Hermit Crabs in rock pools when I was a kid. I had no idea they were so delicate and demanding though! Glad I never tried to keep any as pets, 'cause kid-me would not have been able to manage them.
I swear my crab is an expert climber I’ll be cleaning his tank and put him in a container with water in it and he will climb out of it and like fly to Jupiter-
AWESOME video Lori! LOVE LOVE the new tank. Thank you for all the care tips. Adopted my two hermit crabs from someone about 8 months ago. They're doing so great. Always follow your advice♡ Cat xx
These videos are so helpful because I went to Petco got 2 and then stuck then in one of those 5 gallon calcium sand tanks, did research and freaked out your videos have helped me figure out what to really do thx
Well 5 gallons is actually...sorta ok for 2 hermit crabs but getting the biggest you can is the best option, thank you for taking care of you pets well☺️
My daughter actually Won her hermit crab at a fair!! Along w four fish :( I couldn’t even believe it. Broke my heart that they can give them away like a cheap stuffed animal. We went directly to the pet store and bought everything needed for the fish and crab. The store also helped educate us on hermit crabs. We ended up buying a second from the store so the one wouldn’t be lonely. Both the fish and hermit crabs are being spoiled and we love them. Also love learning about them, but living breathing souls shouldn’t be a darn prize.
My crabs seem to enjoy being handled. They never pinch me. My smaller crab always seems to let me know when he wants something, like food, water, or when he wants me to hold him. My bigger one, who ive had longer, doesn't like being handled as much anymore. She doesn't pinch or anything, she just keeps to herself. My little one seems to take naps while next to me. He will walk around me, and on me for hours until he gets tired and then finds a warm and cozy place to fall asleep for a few hours. My smaller crab also seems to pose for photos.
Thank you for admitting they shouldn't be bought! I was woo'd I found a poor little crab alone on wood chips with no water or food. I just couldn't leave him so I bought him and found a friend for him. I feel guilty for supporting the industry but I couldn't let a painted crab die on wood chips without even a hide. He is molting! He started molting almost immediately after I brought him home and gave him some food and water.
thank you! ❤️❤️ i never knew that you could burn your hermit crab by putting the heat pad at the bottom of the tank! i will be putting on the side soon. 😇😇
ive been doing research for about 4-5 months now and there are hermit crabs at my local pet store. out of all the animals they are the cheapest. once i get a new tank for my lizard im gonna clean the old one and get the crabs. luckly they dont have painted shells.
I got my 2 a few months ago and I got them at a beach store I’m sorry but I only got them because of the situation they were in and cause I wanted to give them a good home so they would live a better life. I have a ten gallon tank which they are doing perfectly fine in. They have things to climb on and things to hide under. I got sand so they could dig cause I used to have rocks. I love them very much and I treat them like my own children. Please don’t hate that I bought them and didn’t adopt them like I said I only got them cause of there situation🙂
So me and my 2 sisters were at a shop and there were hermit crabs there were hundreds in a un humidified area not enough space and painted shells we got 3. 2 died one of stress and the other one died last year so mine is the last one. We got them almost 6 years ago and mine is thriving and happy!
Good to know info for the people who do get them, since people will get them regardless. At least you give those the important info needed to keep them happily!
I got my hermit crab at a souvenir shop at the beach but I did my research before I got him and now he’s happy in his big tank and living his best life
my friend's hermit crab lasted 1 week because she didn't treat them right that's why we are no longer friends because she is an animal abuser and when she had her hermit crab she would not feed it for 2 days or maybe even shake it a lot and she also had an empty tank that was less than 10 inches and that broke my heart so much that I cut all contact with her and even stopped talking to her every time we saw each other.
My husband came home from a weekend at the beach with the kids (just a fun daddy only time weekend) with two hermit crabs, Sponge Bob and Dora. We go to the beach every summer and I always tell my kids no, because I know how awful the hermit crab industry is. I guess daddy was an easier mark! I haven't had hermit crabs since I was a girl. And that was late 80's early 90's, so I'm totally lost on how to properly care for them and give them the best life I can. Your video was so helpful! I think after the all the money we're about to spend, my husband will learn his lesson that if this momma (who 99% of the time says yes to something) says no, it's for a good reason! Wish us luck with Sponge Bob and Dora! We'll do our best by them!
I'm here because I got one from a beach store, mainly to rescue them they didn't have food and the shop was cold ❄️ i hope ours can grow up with my son.
Thanks For Another Hermit Crab Video You Taught Me Alot I Used To Have A 5inch Plastic Abuse Starter Kit And You Taught Me Alot! Now I Know How To Take Proper Care For My Hermit Crabs! My Hermit Crabs Now Have A 10 Gallon Tank! Thanks So Much!
I just went and spent over $200 on ALL the necessary for hermies. I JUST found out about the industry and after a few debates with my dad whose been keeping critters his whole life, I’ve decided to get a few for my 40 gallon tank. I went back and forth on wether I should just return everything or buy hermit crabs, and here’s my thinking. I know I’m supporting the industry by buying hermies. I just keep thinking the crabs I’m buying could be bought by a kid who has a critter tote and some gravel. I’m going to be giving them the BEST setup I possibly can and have been doing intense research.
I have always been fascinated with snails. Never dreamed I could have them as pets but I am going to give it a go. When I found out that we couldn’t have the African Land Snails in the U.S. I cried like a baby. Those faces!!😊In Mn. We have 8 types of snails. I have never so much as seen one!! Not a one! Wish me luck!!😁 Bless the defenseless snails!
I was the the one to like and comment and view love your hermits crap and your doing a really great job Lori and keep it up .love your video by the way
I have 2 hermit crabs that I adopted a year ago, even though i watched this video, I just had to adopt them because they were in a really bad place and they were in really bad shape
I didn’t know that it was bad to buy them. I got two for my kids and since we’ve been researching how to give them the best habitat setup I’m realizing that the store we got them from has a piss poor setup they couldn’t dig they were all just huddled together in a Plastic box with minimal sand at the bottom. That’s sad. My brother in law also bought two and his setup is amazing. I wish I could go back and buy them all and set them free
I own two hermit crabs and i support people adopting them only if they have done their research and know what they’re doing but I understand her perspective on them I’ve had mine for five years and they are not just a simple creature they require a lot of care and time
I had my hermit crab for a few weeks. We are planing to get him a friend and a larger tank. This is helpful for the new tank we are about to buy him in! Thanks! I’ll look forward to watching more :D!
I can really tell you love your babies! However, you have a large platform to educate people about hermit crabs and I don’t really think this is the best care they could be receiving. I understand you may not agree, but there are a few issues such as only using EE, which leads to collapsed tunnels, their food should consist much more terrestrial and aquatic plant litter, their pools are not deep enough for full submergence, and there needs to be at least 80% humidity at all times in order for them to breathe. Hermit Crab Owners on Facebook is a great tool to use, and although your hermit crabs are alive and seem happy, there is much more you can do to improve their quality of life. It is not suggestions that people are giving you, they are true biological facts and reasons and I don’t think you should be taking them as “suggestions”. Animal care is always changing, and there is always something new to learn for everyone. I really do think that although you may have a certain way you care for them, things can be improved and checking out forums and the Hermit Crab Owners facebook would really be helpful. You are so sweet and I know you love all your animals, but these hermit crab videos aren’t my favorite due to the lack of care needs that are missing. Please please consider doing more research, i think it would really benefit your crabs and your viewers who rely on your content for help.
first of all, your tone is patronizing and pretty rude. secondly, her care is actually really great. everything i've ever read online has said humidity needs to be between 70-80%, as close to 80 as possible. she repeatedly talked about misting and keeping the enclosure moist. she also lives in the south and therefore doesnt need to worry too much about the cage top as long as she keeps checking the humidity levels. i live in florida and if she doesnt use the AC too much, the humidity level in her home is probably pretty high naturally since she is also in the south. as for the water levels, the freshwater dish is obviously deep enough for both her crabs to submerge. the saltwater is a little shallow, but it just needs to be able to fill the shell, not cover it completely. she also said she gives a variety of food to her hermit crabs. another video she said she gives them fish products too. you just happened to see her give them primarily fruit this one time. also, as for EE, if you soak it and compact it before you put the crabs in, it works great. i mix mine with sand (80% EE), but you dont have to so long as you compact it before you let the crabs in (something she did if you watch the video closely). lastly, dont assume you know better than her. she has kept her crabs alive for 9 years, so she clearly is doing something right. not everything random people say on facebook is the best way to care for every hermit crab. if you do have issues with something she is doing, consider not being so patronizing next time.
I bought my hermit crabs this huge hut they can go in the exterior makes it look like it’s made out of rocks so it looks natural and in the inside there’s a lot of interior climbing gear they can use right now as I’m commenting this one of my hermit crabs is actually upside down and I also have another climbing gear outside so they can get on top of it
You could start breeding your crabs to offer people an alternative means of purchasing as pets having the option to buy captive bread vs wild caught would probably even help to eliminate the demand for the wild caught industry if people had an easier way to ethically adopt their crabs 💕
with that setting, your put crabs the day, and tomorrow your crabs wohld all be gone climbing out of your tank. i have plain tank with no accessories at all and they're doing just fine. i just put very small amount of water for them to drink and clean themselves. and i feed them fish pellets. they grow well with that
Proper substrate 5 parts sand to 1 part eco earth. You aren't supposed to mist the sub. When you have a proper ratio of sand to eco earth it stays moist-no need for misting. Pine logs are toxic to crabs too.
Thank you for all the information. I just received one as a gift from my daughter and am now looking to improve his environment. So Batman (That's his name my daughter gave him lol) thanks you 👍😎
I really am glad that you have and do make videos. I live in far north east VT. They always have them at Petco and such. I have thought about buying them out and then asking them to leave as if someone wants one then order it.
I got hermit crabs from the beach and I decided to do some research and when I found your channel I freaked out, but know I have. Every thing they need :) except I still need to get some more like fake plants because I Heinrich have those yet. Thank you so much for mane this video!
i named my crab houdini because i got him for free since the clerk couldn't see a crab in the shell, so yeah sometimes just looking is not enough before boiling
I remember stopping by at a pet shop at Atlantic City with my sis and dad. We saw a tank filled with numerous tiny hermit crabs piled on each other in a small but tall tank with only about 2-3 inches of sand. Thinking about it now, I feel terrible about the condition they’re forced into
There is a breeder now so if someone wants one they can buy captive bred if they want a baby. I've heard one lived for 45 years so with proper care they will live a long life.
When I was younger we saw two hermit crabs at the beach and my brother tree them really hard in the congregate and they were not moving and he was grounded for 3 months
Ok,so the foam piece that is located at the back of the enclosure is ok for the crabs? I would have thought that they would try to pinch the foam off and eat it. I just purchased a used 40 gallon tank that had some of that foam rock looking stuff GLUED to the glass and it took me days to remove. Had i known that it was safe, I would have left it on there because it did look nice.
hey lori thanks for another hermit crab video im just get so worried with my hermit crab i leave them in my home for about 6 days cause i have to follow my family trip however i put lot of cucumber carrot and egg shell bfr i leave them i saw one of them is alive and healthy however the other are still burry themselves aa hermit crab expert i need ur opinion do you think they can survive?
so ik im super late but i have had 2 smaller hermit crabs for over 1 year ( i recused them off craglist bc they were in a plastic tiny cage with pellets as food) and I’ve recently just got a bigger crab about the size of my hand bc sombody bought him and didn’t want him anymore because there kids didn’t take care of them and were bored of them and I named him Edward and I’m not used to taking care of such a big crab I’m thinking of getting him a 20 gallon or a bigger tank any tips??
i’ve had them before they lived a long time. i personally want to get more. i never held them a lot though and i just think they’re cute and they’re a good like look at kind of pet
I just won mine at the fair and had no idea of the way they are brought in etc. it’s 😞 so sad. I love animals. I want to give him the best life as possible.
The reason I’m watching this, is because I found a shell on the beach, thinking it was cool, so I put it in my pocket, and as I was walking I felt some pinching but the shell did have some spikes, so I thought that’s what it was... so 2 days later, I’m walking outside, and I see the same shell moving..... so now I’m obligated now.
My mom never understands how much my hermit crabs need and how bad the stores treat them, so I showed her this channel and she was instantly switched to loving hermit crabs
Eat your cereal
T0XKICK lmao that was so random if you to say
BitterDogシ it’s from this guys UA-cam channel and I have the profile pic it’s kind of a long story
I have 2 hermit crabs and I love them like there my children
This channel is crap for care
This hermit crab set up looks better than my house
Leah G. TV haha
Wack
lol
SAME T^T
EXACTLY LIKE THATS NOT FAIR
I'm in a hermit crab group that helps people care and there's someone who breeds hermit crabs! she's very gentle with them and always has people take a picture of their setup before adopting (: it's a great group and they're very helpful
When Steff J and Lori upload at the same time you know the weekends going to get better!
KirstyDarko yep
Stef uploaded!! Gotta go give her some love!

My hermit crabs like to eat moss and it helps with humidity levels.

StarKitt3n eco earth is safe and with sand is safe too! 💗
I really appreciate how thorough you are, this video was very informative.
Jessie Stroupe you’re welcome!
The new enclosure looks great! I never knew they ate Vegetables and never knew what they actually ate. Thanks for the information and not encouraging anyone to get them.
Love your hermit crab tank very natural looking
Also, all and any store bought herm food is horrible for them -
I’m so happy to see you’re feeding fresh!
The heating pad should be about an inch above the substrate it’s supposed to warm the air

I live in puerto rico i can get hermit crabs in front of my house
If you need new shells Michaels has good one that hermit crabs love!
Katie Turley Yes!!!
Katie Turley thank youuuu
I used to love looking for Hermit Crabs in rock pools when I was a kid. I had no idea they were so delicate and demanding though! Glad I never tried to keep any as pets, 'cause kid-me would not have been able to manage them.
I swear my crab is an expert climber I’ll be cleaning his tank and put him in a container with water in it and he will climb out of it and like fly to Jupiter-
I just got one as it was stored away in a store that had overcrowded shells and crabs and want to give it the best life
AWESOME video Lori! LOVE LOVE the new tank. Thank you for all the care tips. Adopted my two hermit crabs from someone about 8 months ago. They're doing so great. Always follow your advice♡ Cat xx
Catharina Martin you’re so welcome!
Kid is adopting class pets (hermits) so honestly thank you for the videos. I almost bought a kit before watching your vids.
Love it!! Thank you! I have crabs (mostly rescue) and I love your videos. I know you don’t condone owning them, but I wish you made more ❤️❤️❤️
When I saw the pot of boiling water I freaked out a little bit 😂 I quickly realised it was to clean the decor...not for the crabs
Yes, megan she was boiling crabs to eat. Crabs taste good, its sea food
I love your setup
It’s not extremely expensive or difficult
Thank you for sharing
I got my hermit crab at a souvenir shop at the beach but I did my research before I got him and now he’s happy in his big tank and living his best life
my friend's hermit crab lasted 1 week because she didn't treat them right that's why we are no longer friends because she is an animal abuser and when she had her hermit crab she would not feed it for 2 days or maybe even shake it a lot and she also had an empty tank that was less than 10 inches and that broke my heart so much that I cut all contact with her and even stopped talking to her every time we saw each other.
You did the right thing.
Working at Pet Supermarket i learned how to take care of hermit crabs.i love watching them climb the branches 😊
Always remember to have a big shell shop for your Hermit crabs
I'm here because I got one from a beach store, mainly to rescue them they didn't have food and the shop was cold ❄️ i hope ours can grow up with my son.
Thanks For Another Hermit Crab Video You Taught Me Alot I Used To Have A 5inch Plastic Abuse Starter Kit And You Taught Me Alot! Now I Know How To Take Proper Care For My Hermit Crabs! My Hermit Crabs Now Have A 10 Gallon Tank! Thanks So Much!
I’m glad!
@@LorisHartland Bad News one of my hermit crabs died today he got sick i dont know how but please tell me how to treat a sick hermit crab
Yahhhhh lovely set up I got my hermit crab over a month away and the have just finished a good molt.
JoJo RAY good!
I LOVE having snails!
I was the the one to like and comment and view love your hermits crap and your doing a really great job Lori and keep it up .love your video by the way
zotic-zah z crap?
Lolololololololol
how do you keep moisture level in the tank? Do you spray water manually when needed? Or do you use any of automatic sprinkler systems?
There is plenty of information if you look it up including several ways to maintain proper humidity.
I own two hermit crabs and i support people adopting them only if they have done their research and know what they’re doing but I understand her perspective on them I’ve had mine for five years and they are not just a simple creature they require a lot of care and time
I watch your videos over and over again the are so good I can’t get enough I am always in the mood to watch your videos.🌈💐💕😜 keep up the good work
Thanks!
I just bought a 29 gallon for mine but I definitely need more greenery!!! Yours looks amazing!!!
I had my hermit crab for a few weeks. We are planing to get him a friend and a larger tank.
This is helpful for the new tank we are about to buy him in! Thanks! I’ll look forward to watching more :D!
They love moss! have you ever tried a moss pit? mine love the moss pit in their tank
Brooke Perkins I’ve thought about it!!! I’ve never bought it before maybe I should add some!
@@LorisHartland if you do let us know how they like it!!!
K.
first of all, your tone is patronizing and pretty rude. secondly, her care is actually really great. everything i've ever read online has said humidity needs to be between 70-80%, as close to 80 as possible. she repeatedly talked about misting and keeping the enclosure moist. she also lives in the south and therefore doesnt need to worry too much about the cage top as long as she keeps checking the humidity levels. i live in florida and if she doesnt use the AC too much, the humidity level in her home is probably pretty high naturally since she is also in the south. as for the water levels, the freshwater dish is obviously deep enough for both her crabs to submerge. the saltwater is a little shallow, but it just needs to be able to fill the shell, not cover it completely. she also said she gives a variety of food to her hermit crabs. another video she said she gives them fish products too. you just happened to see her give them primarily fruit this one time. also, as for EE, if you soak it and compact it before you put the crabs in, it works great. i mix mine with sand (80% EE), but you dont have to so long as you compact it before you let the crabs in (something she did if you watch the video closely).
lastly, dont assume you know better than her. she has kept her crabs alive for 9 years, so she clearly is doing something right. not everything random people say on facebook is the best way to care for every hermit crab. if you do have issues with something she is doing, consider not being so patronizing next time.
Victoria Scata oh my god
I bought my hermit crabs this huge hut they can go in the exterior makes it look like it’s made out of rocks so it looks natural and in the inside there’s a lot of interior climbing gear they can use right now as I’m commenting this one of my hermit crabs is actually upside down and I also have another climbing gear outside so they can get on top of it
I am getting hermit crabs so this is super helpful!
I’m getting a 95 gallon tank
You could start breeding your crabs to offer people an alternative means of purchasing as pets having the option to buy captive bread vs wild caught would probably even help to eliminate the demand for the wild caught industry if people had an easier way to ethically adopt their crabs 💕
It’s not adopting if you buy them. There’s already so many that need adopting.
Thanks so much i just got a hermit crab and i set it up in my room it some what big i look very nice i got 3
Why does the name Hermit Crab sound so cute? I am NOT demoralizing their value I love them so much 🐾💛
with that setting, your put crabs the day, and tomorrow your crabs wohld all be gone climbing out of your tank. i have plain tank with no accessories at all and they're doing just fine. i just put very small amount of water for them to drink and clean themselves. and i feed them fish pellets. they grow well with that
Proper substrate 5 parts sand to 1 part eco earth. You aren't supposed to mist the sub. When you have a proper ratio of sand to eco earth it stays moist-no need for misting. Pine logs are toxic to crabs too.
Love your videos
When she said sponge bob is molting I died😂😂
Great tank set up👍
i named my crab houdini because i got him for free since the clerk couldn't see a crab in the shell, so yeah sometimes just looking is not enough before boiling
I remember stopping by at a pet shop at Atlantic City with my sis and dad. We saw a tank filled with numerous tiny hermit crabs piled on each other in a small but tall tank with only about 2-3 inches of sand. Thinking about it now, I feel terrible about the condition they’re forced into
You are an incredibly lovely, big-hearted, and knowledgeable person.
I've seen a post of someone having a 34 year old purple pincher! They live s looooong time
You should use the moss they love it
Love watching your videos 🥰
Hi Lori! Question - does it need a heating pad? Is that necessary or extra?
hey lori thanks for another hermit crab video im just get so worried with my hermit crab i leave them in my home for about 6 days cause i have to follow my family trip however i put lot of cucumber carrot and egg shell bfr i leave them i saw one of them is alive and healthy however the other are still burry themselves aa hermit crab expert i need ur opinion do you think they can survive?
I use to own them I most of not taken good care of them and back then idk how to care for them thank u so much for the info
mariahf924 g you’re welcome!
so ik im super late but i have had 2 smaller hermit crabs for over 1 year ( i recused them off craglist bc they were in a plastic tiny cage with pellets as food) and I’ve recently just got a bigger crab about the size of my hand bc sombody bought him and didn’t want him anymore because there kids didn’t take care of them and were bored of them and I named him Edward and I’m not used to taking care of such a big crab I’m thinking of getting him a 20
gallon or a bigger tank any tips??
i’ve had them before they lived a long time. i personally want to get more. i never held them a lot though and i just think they’re cute and they’re a good like look at kind of pet
I just won mine at the fair and had no idea of the way they are brought in etc. it’s 😞 so sad. I love animals. I want to give him the best life as possible.
Thank you i am gonna get a hermit crab so i learned stuff. Thank you
I hate the industry but I do like to save them and put them in big 50-70 gallon tanks so the can live their best life
The reason I’m watching this, is because I found a shell on the beach, thinking it was cool, so I put it in my pocket, and as I was walking I felt some pinching but the shell did have some spikes, so I thought that’s what it was... so 2 days later, I’m walking outside, and I see the same shell moving..... so now I’m obligated now.
Can't you put it back on the beach?
