How do you pretreat glass with Alum before Marbeling please

Can I use soda ash or alum to pre-treat? And what do I use to thicken the water?

Alum is used as the mordant to pretreat the surface. Methocel or carrageenan is used to thicken the water. The Jacquard Marbling Kit comes with everything you need: store.jacquardproducts.com/products/marbling-kit?

What do you use for a bin to hold the water? I can't find anything that's long enough.

What do you recommend I use to set the marbling dies after I’ve marbled my leather?

I am about to try Marbling some silk scarves. I accidentally purchased the Procion MX dye by Jacquard. Will this dye work? Do I add vinegar instead of the soda ash and if so, is the ratio of water (in the bin) to vinegar the same as water to ash?

Dyes won't work very well for traditional marbling. But if you want to use the Procion MX dyes on silk, we recommend using vinegar instead of soda ash.
