    I like the idea of using the Fudge Dice for a general 'outcome' roll - Excellent idea 😄

    This is great. Plan on doing anymore? 4 years is a long time to “continue”.
    I do enjoy your channel. Thank you for your videos.

      I'd like to do some more Basic Fantasy stuff, but I don't know if we'll be returning to Tristor 😊

    This was very enjoyable to watch. Thank you. I would like to see how our heroes fare in Tristor and the adventure as a whole. Well done and don’t forget to buy ranged weapons.

      Thanks very much for your comment. Dealing with Tristor itself will be the challenging part 😀

      I am assuming that your party will be interacting with NPCs in the next chapter? I don’t know it this is useful, but RPG Tips on UA-cam did a video entitled “ Solo RPGs: Let's Talk About Dialogues”. It’s a good video about interaction in solo games. One product he recommended That I liked the look of was Conversation Cards; I picked them up, and they look very useful, but I haven’t used them in a solo game yet. They’re only 77p on DriveThruRPG for the PDF though:-

      I hope that this helps.

      @@andysimmons2648 That sounds pretty interesting. I will check it out. I have used the Rory's Story Cubes Actions set in the past for figuring out the mindset of an NPC. There are quite a few places to explore in the village and plenty of trouble to get into! 😀

      @@paultice Thank you for your reply, it sounds like fun times ahead. I look forward to seeing your next instalment. 😀
      I’ve seen you use the story cubes and I’m not sure that they’re for but who knows? I do plan to pick up a set of Fate Dice thanks to your use of them in your videos. They look very helpful. 🎲

    I'm re-watching this adventure series. Man you did a great job with it. I'm trying to pick some tips for my own games. Had yet another question: When you roll the individual initiative are you adding any modifiers to the roll like from dexterity? Or is it just a flat D6 roll for everyone? Thanks.

    • @paultice
      @paultice  4 роки тому

      I just did a flat roll but by the BF rules you should add your Dex modifier.

    • @ChuckBarchuk
      @ChuckBarchuk 4 роки тому

      @@paultice Yea I just realized that. That seems to require more math and what about the monsters? They don't have any dexterity. :)

      @@ChuckBarchuk Yes, the poor old monsters don't get a bonus. I love the chaos of BF initiative 😁

      @@paultice Hey Paul, I had an issue in my game today that came up that I wasn't sure how to resolve. I wanted to get your thoughts. I actually shot a quick video where I show and explain what I'm talking about. ua-cam.com/video/sSM1-hMLvHw/v-deo.html

    Basic Fantasy is a wonderfully solid system. Not sure if I like it more than B/X though they're both practically the same. If you like ascending AC, being a dwarf cleric, and a less rigid combat system then BF is the way to go. I'm quite torn myself.

    • @ChuckBarchuk
      @ChuckBarchuk 5 років тому

      But all that being said I love race as class.

    • @ChuckBarchuk
      @ChuckBarchuk 5 років тому

      Race-as-class made Elves, Dwarves, and Halflings more unique and interesting. This also meant that humans were chosen as well. Once this was removed there was no really no reason to ever pick a human. Take Basic Fantasy. Why would you ever choose a human for anything? 10% bonus experience is all they get. Very bland in my opinion.

    Question: does boxed text found in older modules work better for solo ttrpg?

  • @p3knl

    i was just curious did you apply attack bonus on the owl bear or not?

    How do you feel about the BF rule that light crossbows require a second turn be used to reload (do nothing) before shooting again? I noticed you're not using that rule and wondered if you just decided to scrap it since the characters are so weak?

    • @paultice
      @paultice  3 роки тому +2

      Yes, I usually go for something like one attack per round to keep things as simple as possible.

    Pick up some of the basic fAntasy ones. Really cheap and cheerful but great fun. Have you tried savage worlds solo yet? Also not seen you use Scarlet Heroes much. Especially spending that much on it😁

    • @paultice
      @paultice  5 років тому +4

      I took a recommendation on Scarlet Heroes and it's not for me. Basic Fantasy and B/X are the only systems I'm interested in playing solo, but I will happily steal loads of ideas and material from 3e, 5e and BECMI. I like Dungeon Crawl Classics and White Box for group games.
      I still like Swords & Wizardry but Basic Fantasy has cool stuff I would miss if I tried another campaign with S&W.
      I've settled on my favourites.

      @@paultice yeah, I'm still trying to find "the one". I'm holding out for "romance in the perilous realm". Looks interesting. I've admired the way you can just play these small "quests" and you look like your having fun. I seem to get bogged down in the mechanics of the game to much. Play on buddy 😁

    Hey Paul,
    Do you always use a map or tiles along with miniatures when you play solo?

    • @paultice
      @paultice  5 років тому

      I usually use tiles for the encounters. I used random dungeon maps drawn on graph paper for my S&W campaign. It will be interesting and different using the town and regional maps from the Tristor booklet! ☺
