I'm 35, and I actually used a takedown a few weeks ago for the first time ever that I was taught the Summer after my freshmen year of high school. I was never able to get the takedown wrestling live even in practice, but when walking through takedowns at the beginning of each practice I would always do it one or town times, and now it finally just clicked.
I'm 43 and took wrestling in middle school. Never won a match but I did make two of my opponents cry. Still hardwired into my brain after all these years.
I learned this during a practice going over the 3/4 Nelson series. This has since become my favorite move, and I've been wanting to improve it, so this is a big help
It's weird that my coaches always told me that this move was illegal. I wrestled in Illinois and saw kids do it all the time and never got called for it which confused me. I hit it in practice once and my coaches freaked out on me.
it seems like theyd be able to just roll through it would they not like if they just continue to roll through when u start to walk wouldnt they be able to get out to ur side or back
He began using it in freestyle because people were flattened out defending gutwrenches. The pin is obviously best case scenario. You're just trying to score.
Askren I go to ringers in Wisconsin and I see you all the time a tournaments I took a pic with you but I always beet your kids and this Alexander kid needs to focus more on taking a shower after practice then the darn gut wrench I wrestle all 3 styles
The Assassin in not a legal move .... Why would you teach something that is illegal and could possibly injure someone .... You should be embarrassed... Coaching ethics, when the term is applied to you is a real oxymoron... Get a life!!!
Illegal by application in high school .... Cuts off blood circulation to the brain at the carotid artery . I guess being a 2x NCAA champion doesn't necessarily mean one has acquired coaching ethics.
@@timlamb1156 yes, it is illegal. It constricts the blood supply to the brain when the defensive wrestler is brought to his back. Has nothing to do with whether or not the arm is included.
@@patrickmorgan4006 anyways, outside of the fact the skinny of the arm is not directly across the throat and the fact that the player being returned can look away and have no effect from the "choke", if you think that is how its enforced almost all pinning combos are illegal, goodness, the lock is in the arm pit, there is no way they are blocking the throat, sure pressure, but a front headlock does that, only if the wrestler is actually choking will they stop that. I have no idea what state you are in but like all pinning combos, or even chin whip it is always in the nuance of execution.

You can use this as a pretty effective choke too, probably my favorite move in wrestling that has implications in no gi

just saying, this works. our coach is big on teaching this. i’ve hit it once maybe twice, definitely works
is this only freestyle and greco? you can't do this in folk right?
@@7mikepd you can do this in folk actually. the one on top that ben shows here, the standing version and the front headlock version.
Thanks Ben. Loving you videos. Enjoyed the cradle series too
Gonna use this
So basically you're setting them up for a mounted Hermansson. I like it.
All I know is thats the type of move to hurt a guys spine so bad that he will eventually turn over on his own
My kids hit this move regularly, never had to choke anyone or hurt anything.
Gonna use this when Jake Paul calls me out 😆
Im hitting this tomorrow at practice ha

I thinking I need this for wrestling
what If you lock an leg from there?
like an inverted arm triangle?
Is this move legal in kids club wrestling and in HS wrestling?
Yes
Illegal? Arm across throat?
Mix of wrestling and bjj (almost). Nice
Old school wrestling here. Can use for bjj too. Even in MMA we've seen wrestlers using it.
Is this legal in all states??
it seems like theyd be able to just roll through it would they not like if they just continue to roll through when u start to walk wouldnt they be able to get out to ur side or back
As soon as he steps over he pretty much has a guillotine you can tighten down on plus how high his hips are you can still get exposure points.
sometimes the opposing wrestler can roll through but it really depends on what grip the offensive wrestler has
He began using it in freestyle because people were flattened out defending gutwrenches. The pin is obviously best case scenario. You're just trying to score.
ive seen a kid get this move hit on him before and when he tried rolling through it just tightened the hold and knocked him out
This should’ve been used on jake
... But how do you defend against it?
Don’t get flattened out, work up to base and fight front headlock elbow,
Can you use this in folkstyle
Look at Keegan O’Toole matches at Missouri and that will answer your question. In other words, yes in ncaa fork style it’s legal.
Keegan has basically perfected this move.
I am pretty sure he got the assassin from George
Is this illegal for folk style because he’s locking hands?
No because you have an arm trapped on a pinning combination. If it was under both arms it would be locked hands.
This is an illegal move in high school wrestling
No it's not if you do it properly. Have to have the head and arm. We've done it many times and won lots of matches in highschool
@@isaiahnoll201 It is illegal under NHFS rules.
I'm not following boxing advice from you though!!
Well I mean sure. You wouldn't take MMA advice from Jake would you?
I have like tmr to learn this before my match hope i dont brain fart 💀
Did you?

Move’s illegal now in high school wrestling
The only way I remember this guy is from that Jake Paul fight..
My son got this on a guy and the ref stopped it and called it potentially dangerous. Didn't even let him finish the pin.
It’s been called illegal I believe

You are correct! Thank you! Askren might not know that it is illegal, or maybe HS wrestlers isn't his audience here, so I won't question his ethics.
Our high school coach taught us this move almost identically a few weeks ago
It's not illegal, it's locked through armpits, it's just a pinning combo
