it also reacts to touch, which Disney does not do, and it gets pissed if you push it too hard. Check out the other actoid robot videos, they're are tons of them, and some even in english
I love it! Its so realistic and the speach patterns are so human like. If you ask me shes kindof cute to. Other contries trying to develop things like this have not yet come as close as japan has. They dont have realistic speach patterns, or facial features and iv never seen anyone create prettier androids than japan
@KagomeHHaruhiF It's her movements. It's kind of like Data from Star Trek: she's too rigid, and it's clear that her movements are all programmed in. The technology is definitely on its way out of uncanny valley territory though, which is interesting. A long ways to go, but we'll see how far Japan can take this.
No, I meant that industrial robots are usually just a moving arm at the very most. They can't move outside of their work space. Also, what does the biology and evolution of the human race have to do with robots? And I was talking about bipedal robots in those comments I made earlier, not spider-bots with 3 arms.
There's probably some kind of speech recognition device inside the robot, then the computer analyzes the phrase that is spoken to it, then, based off what the programmer programmed, it will select the appropriate response. For example, if I say,"How are you," the robot will respond with a,"Fine, thank you," because the programmer programmed that response to that question.
@BingtheLizard at least you can mute these ones..... if anything they are making improvements! You can also say.. they will be better sync'd with kitchens as well!
I Googled "arachnoid" and all I got was results about arachnoid cysts. I'm going to assume that you meant arachnid. Giving a robot 8 legs doesn't make it any better than a robot with 2 legs, and it would actually become less agile. Giving a robot more than 2 arms could potentially increase its productivity, however that also means that those extra arms would get in the way of the other arms.
@ROFLmao35216 long long time ago someone developed optical Character recognition so if she can't read this Feature will be added with the next Firmwareupdate.
Wow, other than the fact that it doesn't look to sturdy, this is the best one I have seen yet. The movement is sooth, but when it stops the motion the whole unit seems to wobble slightly. Still need to work on the facial expressions as well, it is still too stiff. PS: is it just me, or does the voice actor for that robot sound like sakura from naruto?
they need to work on the arm to hand motives more u can tell its a bit off she also needs to move her neck more often cause it dosnt seem to move with the shoulders
This is the best example of "uncanny valley" for me. The rubber flesh they used to make her look "real" gives me the impression of a shakily animated corpse.
Bipedal humanoid robot designs have distinct advantages that all other forms of robots do not have, notably versatility. A single humanoid robot can theoretically be re-programmed to perform radically different tasks than the last job it was told to do, and still be able to do them well. Much like how a real human can theoretically quit their job as CEO so they can become a police officer (not saying that would be smart).
Except for the movements being a bit jerky, and it not bending its thumbs, I don't know if I'd notice it isn't a real human if I was walking by. It's incredibly realistic.
theres a longstanding proven research that the closer something comes to humanoid, the more repulsed we are by very slight imperfection (or unrealistic perfection) that doesnt look right. this is why animation always adds something unnatural on purpose, so we dont judge it as actual human. people can detect fakeness really well, good luck to designers on their human clones
@mawknation Exactly! While I admit Advancing as quickly as we are in Technology is Exciting, It's also scary to think that All those horror movies where the robots come alive and kill everyone might be a prediction of what's going to happen in the next twenty years.
Its probably your run of the mill animatronic, recorded tape, servos on her arm and enough machinery to move her head and lips in a convincing manner. But the computer powering this baby, is no laughing matter. Once they start programming those little human quirks and also program it to flex her fingers in a convincing manner, it will get even MORE attention from the media. It will be interesting to see what will they acomplish in 2 years time.
i love Hello Kitty too. this robot is much btter than other humanoid robots I've seen, the way it moves if pretty smooth too, from far away I might think it's a real person
Yup. The PETMAN was funded by the military. That kind of technology can be improved upon to be put into the film industry, and can be used to replace human involvement in dangerous or potentially dangerous situations such as the job of a vulcanologist (i.e., the study of volcanoes.) or deep mining. If a robot could be sent to do the work of a miner instead of a human, then cave-ins would simply mean the loss of a robot than the loss of a life. Not the best examples, but I hope you get my point.
@Miniru there are lots more out in the sea... them robots if there were males ever produced... it wont function when you pluck one out of the sea... therefore, you should get my point.
Well, I believe the company that made her is a subgroup of Sanrio, Hello Kitty's company. The shirt honestly doesn't surprise me, and neither does the voice (which I hate).
Dude!!!! The technology that has gone into that, looks t the hand gestures while conversating, fucking amazing!!!!' props!! Who ever actually invented that, reply to me please, pretty kool man!
I think the problem with making them seem so life like is that we really start to believe that they are real. That they have emotions and there is something behind that lifeless face when in reality it's just a program. We form an emotional connection.
Very realistic, but the thing that kills the illusion for me is the poor lip-syncing for the robot. Some of the arm movements also vaguely remind me of a Chuck E Cheese's animatronic. I think the key to making good humanoids of this type is that attention must be paid to the details. They have the looks down pat when it's stationary, but the fine motor control still needs some work.
it also reacts to touch, which Disney does not do, and it gets pissed if you push it too hard. Check out the other actoid robot videos, they're are tons of them, and some even in english

When we compare it to Chobits, I always wonder if her Start/Reset button is set at the same place as Tchii... hopefully not.
@KagomeHHaruhiF

@gladitsnotme well it must be hard to get the oo sound or the u...
do you mean that they have normal voice pitch outside of work (e.g. receptionist)??
@BingtheLizard at least you can mute these ones..... if anything they are making improvements!
You can also say.. they will be better sync'd with kitchens as well!
Hi! I'm working on a documentary and was wondering if I could chat about potentially using this footage in the doc?
I Googled "arachnoid" and all I got was results about arachnoid cysts.

can i order by the gross?
@inverosimilitud This was from 2006, they are getting much better at building these things. It is kinda cool and kinda scary at the same time.
@m0rb1dnightmare the other thing is that a few years it will not be only the rich man's toy but it will be available at a WALMART near you...!
@QuaziGNRLNose the camera did tilt down and you could see she has legs
so where you plug the cord in to load her batterys
Yes... It seems they still have some troubles with the hands. It also looks more difficult to make than the rest.
Ok! Who programmed it to talk?
Wow, other than the fact that it doesn't look to sturdy, this is the best one I have seen yet.
The movement is sooth, but when it stops the motion the whole unit seems to wobble slightly.
Still need to work on the facial expressions as well, it is still too stiff.

Does she come with a charger or do you have to buy one?
@PriorBrian What about robot boyfriends?
@markd9011 i bet i know were the batteries are
Ooh ... do they come in male anime style ?! I want one ! : D
@BingtheLizard I guess the advantage is that robots can be turned off
they need to work on the arm to hand motives more u can tell its a bit off she also needs to move her neck more often cause it dosnt seem to move with the shoulders
So, you've been watching the Swedish TV series "Real Humans" too then?
@DeadLegaciesUK imagine the explosion if you could find a big enough microwave.
do they make ones that dont talk as much?
Ezactky I don't see how this is anything different unless she is thinking all these phrases and talking to you directly.
Wow! I'm impressed! Imagine what she'll be like a few years down the road when the tech picks up even more?
(Cue the "Terminator" theme
This was recorded in 2006, does anybody know something newer?
This is the best example of "uncanny valley" for me. The rubber flesh they used to make her look "real" gives me the impression of a shakily animated corpse.
@abcmole in other words them robots would be so cheap?

The Stepford Wives is coming dangerously close from being a horror movie to being a documentary.
@Aldridge517 Are they anatomically correct? lol
@Cruithne3753 I'm sure they're working on it.
@CarriePoes you made it twentyfour minutes ago
I GET THE REFERENCE
i have a feeling that if the camera were to tilt down, youd see a huge mass of cables and tubes and crap and no legs
the constant unchanging toothy smile is creepy. It makes me think of the movie Child's Play with the smiling Chucky doll
can her hand move faster up and and down?
@misaonthefly True. If that's the case, yeah, she better be anatomically correct.
i have check, visa, cash, money order whatever you need, now how do i get one.
@blazian83 will it blend ?
Except for the movements being a bit jerky, and it not bending its thumbs, I don't know if I'd notice it isn't a real human if I was walking by. It's incredibly realistic.
@DMG125 There was finally a hatsune Miku andriod, but it looks human.. now only if it looked like her in the games, id like it..
i wanna see how long it takes them to make one with more "ports" than usb :)
Wow. a moving sorta-human looking robot on a pedestal! It's almost as realistic as the ones at the 1968 Worlds' Fair!
theres a longstanding proven research that the closer something comes to humanoid, the more repulsed we are by very slight imperfection (or unrealistic perfection) that doesnt look right. this is why animation always adds something unnatural on purpose, so we dont judge it as actual human. people can detect fakeness really well, good luck to designers on their human clones
@misaonthefly I wish. But she'd still be too expensive for us.
@mawknation Exactly! While I admit Advancing as quickly as we are in Technology is Exciting, It's also scary to think that All those horror movies where the robots come alive and kill everyone might be a prediction of what's going to happen in the next twenty years.

@kemamarias exactly wat i am thinking but it would be 2 awesome for us 2 handle sumone like chii
I always interest on robot and all about it. DER series 2 indeed awesome!!
i love Hello Kitty too.
this robot is much btter than other humanoid robots I've seen, the way it moves if pretty smooth too, from far away I might think it's a real person

@gladitsnotme Well, why don't you try to make a robot with an accurate lip syncing yourself?
@Miniru there are lots more out in the sea... them robots if there were males ever produced... it wont function when you pluck one out of the sea... therefore, you should get my point.
Well, I believe the company that made her is a subgroup of Sanrio, Hello Kitty's company. The shirt honestly doesn't surprise me, and neither does the voice (which I hate).
How about the movie "Westworld"
Wow our science fiction future is gonna happen sooner than we had thought!
Dude!!!! The technology that has gone into that, looks t the hand gestures while conversating, fucking amazing!!!!' props!! Who ever actually invented that, reply to me please, pretty kool man!
@oldfartinthewind yeh that's awesome. Can't wait
Aiko doesn't move that smoothly though.
Honda is making a bot called ASIMO, its just amazing what it can do now- imagine 10 years from now. e-e;
Cool, but where's the pleasure model...
The only thing that gives it away are the movements.
@whitbyjet65 if u get it stuck up there ur screwed if u now wat i mean
Hey, on the site about der2, what does the article say about her? If you can translate japanese, let me know.
Can it speak in other languages?
How soon can we get man vs robot in sporting events, its one thing for the robot to look like a person and its another for it to move like one
@BingtheLizard They thought they'd make it as real as possible.
They've come such a long way in realistic behavior since the Snooki model!
@Mycterizian Michael wasn't like most individuals, that's for sure. But he wasn't a freak. Eh, whatever floats your boat though.
@DaisyMcfries why should she? =]
@JesseGonzalas if you didnt get my meaning then i fear for human intelligence
I think the problem with making them seem so life like is that we really start to believe that they are real. That they have emotions and there is something behind that lifeless face when in reality it's just a program. We form an emotional connection.
makes you wonder if the japanese are just making robot girls to compansate or to have ones that wont cry when they see it
I would really like to know what she's saying
She scares the hell out of me. Imagine her, talking with her high voice, handing a knife and saying "Come eat, your sandwich is ready..."
She needs some sort of inner balance system so she doesn't lurch around. :3
Very cool though!
@sAsUsAkU6000 using EMP pulse is very handy at that moment :))
I swear to god, if i wouldn't have searched for robot, i would swear that was a human. Okay, she doesn't move so smooth, but still. Amazing!
It'll probably take another 20-30 years for them to get the facial expressions.
does it have a vacuum cleaner in its mouth?
hows that going 2 work
Notice how its upper lip dosen't move?
Very realistic, but the thing that kills the illusion for me is the poor lip-syncing for the robot.
Some of the arm movements also vaguely remind me of a Chuck E Cheese's animatronic.
I think the key to making good humanoids of this type is that attention must be paid to the details. They have the looks down pat when it's stationary, but the fine motor control still needs some work.
@KagomeHHaruhiF lol!!! could be right though? makes u think dosent it?
Disneyland called. They want their 1960's animatronics back.
If this was 5 years ago, imagine what they have now?
Geez, with just some extra-needed improvements and adjustments...
Who knows; this actroid might be living next to you.
That's creepy.
i wonder if she is anatomacally correct
@bustthewave It's not just Japan. Trust me.
@sAsUsAkU6000 you sir have serious issues on to work on XD
the next what we will know, is that 8 evil robots will terrorize thematic parks and a blue robot will try to save the world
Is She Fully Functional?
this was made in 2006 so surly it should be more advanced by now its been near enough 10 years.
+J o n a t h a n something tells me these sex robots are going to be a very big deal in the future and a big controversy.
i agree matthewakian2
If she doesn't walk, then its simply animatronics programming. Walt Disney has already done that.
