  • We look at the motion of a stick is held horizontally and then dropped while being supported from only one end. Objects resting on top of the stick are only able to remain in contact with the stick if they are placed on the 2/3 of the stick that is closest to the side at which the stick is supported. Objects farther than 2/3 of the stick length from the support point will lose contact. This is because points on the stick that are more than 2/3 of the stick length from the support will accelerate downward at a rate greater than g = 9.8 m/s/s. The effect is explained in a follow-up video.
