  • How to build a Tardis: • How to build a TARDIS!... , so now you can stop asking for measurements!!!
Here's a video for the lovers of anticlimactic finales! =D
    1) Do NOT try this at home! If you build a TARDIS, use proper tools, protection and your brain at all times!
    2) I envy and worship every person who works for the BBC props department! I will however do anything for a bad joke.
    3) If this isn't enough TARDIS for you, you can take a look at my build diary on tardisbuilders.com. Also, if you're hoping to get the measurements I used, I'm sorry, I don't have any. That is, I did, but then I had to change and adjust and... I'm just a sloppy worker, I thought I made that clear... Anyway, everything I had that was at least close to blueprints or measurements can be seen at my build diary: tardisbuilders.....
    4) I obviously don't really play the nose flute nor the musical saw, although my skills on both instruments are actually slightly better than in the video.
    MUSIC USED IN THE VIDEO
    Working on the TARDIS:
Featuring the 8bit version of Alex Day's "Forever yours" (Blue version) by actuallydave:
    www.youtube.com....
    TARDIS speed build:
Kevin MacLeod's "Faster does it" is royalty-free available here:
    incompetech.com....
Really really really really really really bad outro:
Something like the Doctor Who theme music by Ron Grainer was mutilated and performed by myself. Sorry. Like I said, I have this thing for bad jokes... :)

As the son of a carpenter mom, I watched your video with equal parts horror and admiration.
Horror because you used a table saw with the kickback guard and shield up. You're lucky you didn't hit a stiff bit in the wood or it would have knocked you into the wall quite painfully, or just broken your thumb(s) because you were pushing the wood by hand. Its always best to use the push guide that comes with the saw, or use a bit of scrap as a push-rod. Let the inanimate take the abuse. ;)
And admiration because you managed a very good job of making something larger than yourself BY yourself. The foldy bit was a master stroke in my view. I doubt many people would have had that sort of inspiration, much less the foresight to make it easy to dismantle. Plus the lamp globe was brilliant. Cheers to your mom for having it so you could appropriate it!
A couple other suggestions for future DIY projects if I may. Consider making yourself a few sawhorses. They're remarkably easy to make, and it will save you table damage. A couple 8 foot lengths of 2x4 for the legs, a 4x6 about 4 feet long, and a sheet of 1/2 inch plywood. There's lots of simple plans for how to calculate the height measurements while compensating for the angle of the legs. And the best part of making your own, you can customize the height to what feels most comfortable to you. And since they're cheap to make, you don't have to worry when you've sliced and diced one to bits. You just disassemble it (use screws or bolts!) and replace the 4x6 beam or a leg if necessary. :D
And you'll pardon me if I join the masses in appreciating what a beautiful woman you are. But I'll save you the cheesy / creepy marriage proposal. Six time zones is a bit too far of a long-distance relationship for me. I know... you're crushed, I never meant to hurt you, and its better this way, you'll see. [single tear] Oh yeah, and its nice to see a woman who's comfortable enough to not only enjoy bad jokes (such as the preceding dramatic bit), but to admit it publicly. That's a rather rare quality these days.
Anyhow, if you're like most tinkerers I know, you'll be tweaking and improving your Tardis over time. So I'll be interested to see what you do, or what your next project is. Best wishes!

I just have to say I normally don't watch longer videos but in this case I'm glad I did. You are funny, enjoyable to watch, quirky, and non-stop entertaining!!! I haven't enjoyed a video this much in a long time. I'm sure I will be watching more of your videos and if they are even half as funny as this one I will be very pleased. Thank you for making my day today! Now I have to check out this whole Dr. Who thing that everyone is talking about!

    1) It looks fantastic!

Wow! Just found your video! Excellent work! Your Tardis is beautiful! Check out our videos from our farm where we build and fix just about everything! Just a friendly offering of advice though... Seeing how you mention of splatter movies and all... The blade on that table saw should be set to a height of just above the level of the wood. This prevents the saw from kicking back on you and possibly severing a finger (don't ask me how I know). And I noticed there doesn't seem to be a groove for the wood "pusher", that's odd? All table saws over here have a groove with a slider that guides your wood for a nice and straight cut at whatever angle you want to cut up to 45 degrees. Love the German cursing! LOL!

I am a pro woodworker and woodshed instructor part time. I would never make fun of anyone who ene=deavors to and follows through on a woodworking project. As for methodology, there are as many ways to cut and shape wood as there are ways to to skin a pole cat! One note: use a miter sled or miter gauge! You are asking to be injured by freehanding a crosscut!

On your list of things to check off at the beginning of the video? One of them was "Marry me". Ok, but you gotta realize I'm a professional woodworker, electrician, plumber and my shop is twice the size of an average American home. I also cook and clean (a little bit) but I don't do windows so that'll be your job. Ohh, and helping me play with five dogs (I almost forgot that part). And...ummm...what else...you'll have to move to Montana, that might be the sticky bit. Great Tardis job!

That was the most awesome thing ever!! Wow.. I'm so impressed. Well done! I came across this video during one of my many Doctor Who related UA-cam searches. Yes, I'm a fan :) I really enjoyed the way you put your video together - great pace, quirky cool, self-deprecating, self-aware and confident - I enjoyed it greatly. I am going to subscribe and check out some more of your videos. Sincerely, a new fan.

I think you did a very good job buildin your Tardis and man the most brilliant is your Tardis is portable. The doors you did, i got surprised when watched your video. Im thinking to build one so im looking for people who did their own to see how is it the process. And your lamp you did your own too this is amazing! I love this kind of thing where people build using part of other things. And looks good! You could i don't know use your Tardis to keep books. You can find a way to shelfs as same way you did with the doors.

That is very impressive. Forget about comparing yourself to a TARDIS building website. Having the ability to disassemble and reconstruct your TARDIS within 9 minutes and place it anywhere you want is fantastic!

THIS is the best ever video of building a tardis, made me laugh so much last night, you are such a refreshing change, funny, witty and bloody brilliant!!! You have smashed the German stereotype of having no humour lol...do you have the plans what you used??

Just a thought, instead of a shop light you could use inexpensive battery powered led lights like they have around christmas time for the mini desk trees. That way you could illuminate each of the Police Box signs and the light at the top of the Tardis. That way they would be a little more uniformly lit.

You criticise yourself for not knowing how to do proper carpentry etc, however I think it's that very thing that gives this video and your TARDIS it's charm. I love how you had to figure it all out yourself and how you had to do things in a slightly unorthodox way. I love the light on the top especially

You are awesome! I'm now feeling inadequate for asking my husband to build my tardis. In my defense I'm building my own dalek. It's going brilliantly - not! But you have inspired me and I will get there.

I came from woodworking for mere mortals and found your video to be very enjoyable. After watching a number of your other videos and discovering that you are a teacher I began to remember my third grade teacher. She was also very pretty and I had a huge crush on her. My mom still has some of the drawings I made back then. They are covered with harts and such. Apparently I was pretty sure that Mrs. P and I were going to get married some day. Oh, happy memories!

I would have gone down the scrapyard to find a revolving lamp off an emergency vehicle for the top but you did great. Love the accent, very Anton Diffring!
