More than once I have complained to my friend about UA-camrs constantly bugging me for things. More then once I have brought you up as my example… ‘you know, that Dutch painter that I like to watch… he’s never bugged me to like or subscribe or pushed his patreon in my face! Not once! He just quietly paints and occasionally talks a bit and shows us parts of his life.’ You better believe it’s nice. And I’m not the only one that feels that way. My friend always says, ‘ya that’s because he’s not American he’s Dutch.’ I watch another dutch youtuber, he remodels his stone house in the mountains of Italy. He is the same. He makes quiet video documenting his process. He’s got 650k subscribers and people wait for his videos every Sunday. If you are wondering his channel is Martijn Doolaard… people love these kinds of videos. You were right to follow your instincts. And when someone puts out nice content there is no need to bug people for stuff.

No I don’t think this is typically Dutch! As I see what my sons like to watch on UA-cam…
I know the content of Martijn Doolaard. I like it a lot

I know what you mean about being pestered to like and subscr, then some even try to shame you into becoming a patreon. One I nearly unsubscribed from recently for this was Koosje Koene (dutch). I didn't though and interestingly, she has been slightly less aggressive with pushing her patreon recently...

@@TitusMeeuwsI agree that a political boundary does not define a culture and the individuals within it…unless an individual decides to be defined by it. Every region in the world is made up of countless cultures which bind people to varying degrees to traditions and ways of seeing the world.

It's so nice to see that our painting session together inspired you do these self portraits and work with less brushes. I think that you captured the focused gaze very well in the second painting, it's really you. As always, great shots and looking forward to see the next 'page of your diary'.

Thank you Anna Maria. Yes, that portrait session of ours was really worth traveling up to the north. Maybe the best way to learn is working together

Here to agree about the "focussed gaze" - I noticed it in the portrait painting session and that look is captured absolutely - a sort of quizzical squint.

It’s interesting that you point out a fact that is often overlooked: that the viewer sees the artist in a painting or artwork and always wants to know more about the artist/author, to develop a stronger connection and understanding of the emotion evoked by the artwork. Your videos give the viewer that information and they begin to understand, and relearn that the quiet of life is a necessary and loving thing.
Also I love the big brush self- portrait studies. Y

Count me as one of the "just discovered this channel subscribers". The information, demonstration, and calmness of your voice related to making art are unbeatable in a sea of UA-cam presenters. I am unable to paint while taking care of a sick family member. This was a relaxing video to just forgo concerns of life and experience a sense of well being in your painting language. I look forward to seeing and hearing much more. Thank you for sharing your talents and processes.

Afraid of a painting going wrong. Reminds me of my daughter. She makes the mistake of drawing too decisively and makes hard marks with her pencil. This is of course difficult to erase if needed. And that is the problem. Most people think that if you know how to draw you always make the right marks and don’t do any mistakes. It’s the opposite. It’s not being afraid to make mistakes and finding ways that corrections are easy to do. It is a process. Repetition can tune us into not making mistakes but we will then be only repeating ourselves which will be boring. So we try different things and techniques so we are then again liable to make new mistakes. This is what it is all about. That is what keeps our interest in everything. The process.

It’s been a recent journey for me into the world of art. While I’m not creating paintings myself, I’ve developed a profound admiration for them. I invest time and interest, contemplating what the artist might be communicating or what experiences they’ve shared through their work. To me, paintings are nothing less than the encapsulation of emotions. I want to express my gratitude for your glimpse into an artist’s life. Observing them and hearing your thoughts is a joy. In our fast-paced world, your approach of taking your time resonates with me; it’s essential for crafting something truly beautiful.

I was thrown off a bit by the question of the woman also, not in a bad way of course, but I wondered how could one know that something is that wrong right away and if it was then there would be time to fix it, like you mentioned each painting is a sort of journey or a path? I compare it to learning a new language. If I don’t say exactly everything correctly while learning and keep repeating every imperfect word even though I was understood then what lacks? It’s just practice, It isn’t a failure, just merely evidence that we are learning and it should be celebrated. When I was learning my second language I kept trying to repeat because I knew that I didn’t say it “perfectly” the first time so I sounded like I was stuttering ( a habit that I did have) and when I started teaching amongst things noted with other advanced second, third language students I used my experience. I feel that art is no different other than the language or artistic impression that we wish to leave behind is a path that hasn’t been laid down yet. Our minds depend on what we chose to fill them with becoming sort of that unconscious tutor. If we can make really excellent use of that ability while sleeping, it isn’t the cure all for everything but it can help us. It is sad that in general the world around us seeks the cure seeks the most intelligent, seeks genius instead of cultivating a genuine positive attitude and fellow feeling. Anyone can have knowledge and remember books of knowledge and even be photogenic. Wisdom is something far more involved, it is the ability to put all knowledge into practice and know the exact application of such. Well it keeps me in my place Titus. Knowing that there is one who strongly desires to help us be wise every day is comforting. We all do what we can to care for our necessities but the wisdom part in there says that there is more and a way to be on that path. Despite the difficulties each person has, some go through unimaginable ones, when I hear these same core principles then it is encouraging. I am enjoying your art journey, but it isn’t just an art journey and I had to slow my pace a bit lately but getting ready to get set up in a quicker pace soon. Always a pleasure and greetings to you, your family and fellow friends. Thank you. I think that Holand is 6 or 7 hours ahead so a bit closer to the weekend if some are able to be with there loved ones then or need to work, may it be pleasant. Gorgeous paintings Titus, I love the soft greens against the strong architectural elements. Lovely! Also maybe I should paint myself while still able to hold a brush, maybe my family would like it. Maybe 😂

I think there are big misconceptions about 'Social Media' now. I think it's fantastic what people can create, what motivates them and all this without traveling. You learn so much from others, it always gives you a good feeling.

You did it again, Titus. I sat here completely captivated by your words and pictures. Self portraits are difficult. How much do we want to see of and in ourselves? You released yourself from details. Using that big brush was genius. I admire your attitude confronting yourself so blatantly. Audacious, really. I look forward to the next chapter. 💕

Your vidéos Titus give me the idea of going a little further than just brushes and harp in creating videos about my egg temperas. Just now I have to overcome the little negative voice without trust in it that trots like a hamster between my two ears. I think I'll start a little more, one toe at a time. In addition, it's fun, as far as Montreal in Canada, I also painted myself, as a self-portrait, this week. Thanks!

Loved the self portrait concept. On my list of areas to start exploring. But I truly appreciated your first 15 minutes of commentary about not just one and done paintings. Multiple studies and daily painting is how you fond your style, likes, what works, etc. Your individual art journey!

I find it more difficult to paint from memory or imagination than I do from a reference. I find that I need to see the colors and composition in order to make a cohesive painting. I am an acrylic painter from South Carolina.

I am truly grateful for this video because it made me understand what I felt today, negative thoughts about a portrait I started a few days ago. Each time I start working on it I always see mistakes, so I always correct them. Again I am discouraged but watching your video gave me the encouragement to continue with this painting or try another one. Now I understand what I feel and that I am not the only painter who feels like this or has the same issue. You are so thoughtful and knowledgeable about the human behavior of the artist. You are so kind and helpful to all that is why I am so grateful for your videos. I hope to continue learning about myself and how to feel about the creative process of my paintings. Thank you so much!

As always, I enjoyed watching you paint and listening to what you have to say. I decided that it was time for me to have a studio, seeing you working in yours, so I asked my grown daughter if I could set myself up in her unused garden shed in the back yard. It’s not very big or very clean and I share it with bugs, but I am enjoying having a dedicated space for my painting. It makes me feel more like a serious artist.

    • @TitusMeeuws
      @TitusMeeuws  7 місяців тому +3
