This video comes right on time. What a fantastic and comprehensive video! I'm a beginner at age 59 and love metal. Starting out with my Epiphone Les Paul Standard and even though it sounds good enough, I can already tell it's not metal enough for what I want to hear. I'm using a Katana MK2 and again, as a beginner, I like it, but something is missing, or at least I think so. My guitar instructor recommends that I look at Ibanez, Jackson and even another Epiphone Prophecy, but you don't even show off any Epiphones so... that worries me. I think the EMG or any ceramic high output pickup is what I need to spice things up a bit. Thanks again for a great video! SUBSCRIBED!
Thanks for the kind words, glad to have you on board!! Epiphones are great, I just don’t own any. It’s just a preference thing. The real question is what kind of guitar shape do you like? If you like the Les Paul shape, and like the sound of EMGs I immediately thought of the LTD EC-401. It comes with EMGs and it’s in the LP shape. It sounds ferocious. It’s a bit on the pricier side, you can get brand new for $999. And used for even cheaper. The old EC-1000s also had EMGs, they play just as good. Is your Katana the 100 W head or is it the combo amp? If it’s the combo, you’re probably looking for more beef than 1x12 My 2x12 Harley Benton cabinet is plenty loud
Just happend to look at the veiws and couldnt beleive it wasnt hundreds of thousands. Easy to follow straight to the point and quality sound tests. Keep it up man ❤️
Jackson JS22. That's my pick and I'm stickin to it. Expanded thoughts: You do still get what you pay for, and I think you should save up as much as you can, but that a realistic goal is something in the $300 range. They typically don't need THAT much work to play very well. If you can buy local, that's gonna be the best since you can get them to set it up for you as well. Or at least, any good shop should offer to give it a nice set up for you when you buy it. Completely agree on the Boss Katana being the best. Orange Crush is another good choice but personally I would go for the Katana. But most of all, for sure like you said get the one you think is the coolest and that does "the thing." It absolutely has to inspire you to pick it up and play. Don't go with the safe choice. Follow your heart and your wallet lol.
Well said, man. That $300 range gets even better if you buy used, considering you’d get something that cost more when new. I’ve always wanted to try Orange. Never had the chance
Never seen a more detailed video when it comes to buying metal guitars, thanks dude! I still haven’t made up my mind, my budget is around 300$ and I’m searching for a guitar that can chug and do the thing😂 I rly like thrash and stuff like Gojira so I’m going to base my choice from these two bands and their type of music
My instinct is to always say used. I bought my Dean Razorback for $350 with upgraded pickups, that are worth $200+ for them alone. As for new, The Westcreek Cerberus and Westcreek Revenge are pretty good. I did recent 1 year update videos for both and they’re both under the $300 mark.
Schecter!!! Also, for beginners with a $500 budget, I would recommend the jackson js22 or a schecter c-6. Or both!! Also, I purchased a few budget guitars from Amazon, westcreek, leo jaymz, and fesley, gotta say these budget guitars I would also recommend for a beginner or intermediate. It all will eventually boil down to what sounds the best and what feels the best, what inspires you....which I'm grateful to have so many options just for that reason. Geez that was a long reply😒🎸🤘
I appreciate the long replies! Shows you’re actually giving some thought to the video. Schecter really makes a kickass guitar. I think their QC is better than Jackson too. Since you’ve tried all the budget brands, who’s your favorite ??
@@thetattedbaldguy ya know I like the leo jaymz and the fesley. Also that harley benton baritone is amazing! I like them all honestly, I'd like to try out donner, any experience with them?
I've got 4 Deans , 2 Ibanez, 2 Iyv (Amazon) and 2 my own builds 7P Guitarz (headless explorer, and Dean Rebel copy) but I'm thinking a west creek racer as my next one
My favorite shapes are super strats, Vs, and explorer or star shapes. I own a jackson gus g js32 star and a jackson js22 Dinky , and they're pretty good guitars for metal considering the price
@thetattedbaldguy I've seen it and it looks sick along with their other guitars. Westcreek makes good guitars but not the biggest fan of their shapes, I'm more of a jackson/esp guy.
That’s a great question actually. I’m not that well versed in budget pickups. Usually I just go for the full price and get an outstanding pickup. EMG and Seymour Duncan are my favorites
That Leo Jamyz tempest looks sick its only 249 which is surprising im sad I quit playing guitar because I sold my last guitar just to buy food amd never bought one again im probably going to buy a reversed headstock tempest
I have shorter fingers and scaling isn't easy on a les Paul. However on my squire I can really play rhythms but it's a tad too flat as it's a c neck. I have been struggling to find a good budget guitar with the right neck. Any suggestions on scale length, feet size and neck shape? Any info helps.
@@thetattedbaldguy do you have any tips for getting better at palm muting because no matter what I do it sounds like crap tbh but random strumming sound killer idk
WHY SAVING FOR BETTER INSTRUMENT IS THE BETTER OPTION; THE ARGUMENT No offense, but the suggestion of upgrading a cheap guitar is misleading and can make inexperienced young people to lose lots of money and more importantly - motivation. If a guitar is a low quality build in the first place, locking tuners or high end pickups will not save it. If it cannot get a decent intonation which allows you to record without having out-of-tune harmonies and combinations of rhythm and lead, then no hardware will save you. If you cannot get comfortably low action without buzzing like hell on most of the frets, a new bridge by Gotoh or Fender won't save you. There are some issues with the lower end builds that cannot be fixed and if I knew that back in the day, I would spend as much time as I had to in order to save enough for something better. Sadly, I had nobody to guide me what to do, so I spent years in saving money to upgrade something that I am now GLAD I got rid of. I would NOT recommend getting a cheap Chinese guitar and upgrading it because I actually DID that mistake. No matter that I'll be called a hater or troll, the only thing I really want is to warn all the motivated young people, who are going to dive into the world of playing guitar, that upgrading a cheap instrument is a risky move and you may not succeed, losing lots of money and time, and that saving for better instrument is always the better option.
The Tempest by Leo Jaymz. They’re a great Amazon brand. But I’m not sure you can find this one anymore. They have a Tempest Deluxe which is much better but also about $100 more. The original tempest that you asked about is cool, but it looks better than it sounds

The boosted pickups sound better in all of the comparisons, but that BC Rich Revenge has a badass raw tone with the stock pickups. I was shocked
Jackson JS22. That's my pick and I'm stickin to it.

love the sleepaway camp shirt !
Thank you! And much respect for noticing that! 🫡🤘🏻
What a well thought out reply. You nailed just about every point.
"What's a Floyd Rose?" Yeah let's keep it that way😂
Experience is everything, never know til you try
I have one. Its cool, but i wont be getting another because i want guitar i can constantly tune from standard to d standard to a standard
I have two hard tails, and four with Floyd Rose. It is nice to quickly change tunings, but I love my Dime squeals and dive bombs.
Great run down and demo of all those guitars!! Gotta love that T-shirt!
Thank you! I saw the shirt on a FB ad from iHeartDogs. I wholeheartedly agree with the statement so I had to get it. 🤘🏻

Ibanez RG series or a used jackson soloist i think is the best value.

At 2:34 what is the guitar on the left called
The Tempest by Leo Jaymz. They’re a great Amazon brand. But I’m not sure you can find this one anymore. They have a Tempest Deluxe which is much better but also about $100 more. The original tempest that you asked about is cool, but it looks better than it sounds
Any bidget brands that do X shaped guitars for Cheap
