WOW so beautiful ! I like how it’s not crowded/busy and the gloomy weather is perfect ! I’m not a big fan of the sun, I prefer the cold over the hot. I also like the fact on how quiet and calm it is, that is my type of environment ! And no traffic !? Wow !

I was born and raised in Tacoma, 1955 to 1972 and I cherish my childhood freedom there. It was safe, I would ride my little stingray bike from 43rd and McKinley Ave down to the docks with my fishing gear. I'd bring home good eating fish like Cod, Rock Cod, and others. Never had a problem with anyone concerning anything. I went to Mary Lyon Elementary and Stewart Jr High. Many of my classmates went on to be very high achievers due to the curriculum. What I really enjoyed as a Kid was the Air Force had fighter jets that would buz our school, they dont anymore. Mchord AF base and Fort Lewis Close by. The sports programs were really the best, the city had programs. They would come by the parks and teach all the kids, I remember they would come to Mckinley Park,,,,drugs were non existent and some due to these programs. I had the best childhood growing up in Tacoma. We moved to Eugene Oregon, where it is even more peaceful, but far less competent as the average Tacoman.

My sister and I were born at Madigan Army Hospital 1955 and 1958 respectively and grew up in a plain bungalow in rural Tacoma at 4410 S State St and S 44th Ave Lakeview WA. Dad was a master sergeant and Korean war vet who worked at American Lake teaching his battery how to fire howitzers. Mom was an acute care nurse who worked at a maternity hospital. I still have photos of the old house. Our house has now been obliterated by the current Tacoma Mall built in 1965. My folks shopped at B&I, visited Ivan, and took in shows at the old Star-Life Drive In S Tacoma Way and 84th St S. Life was much better back then, is it not? Today we're both retired with our own families travelling around the world.

i'm moving there in the beginning of 2017. a lot of people fro seattle complain about the crime in tacoma. i'm from one of the worst neighborhoods in phoenix full of cartel members, gangs, meth cooks, lots of minor gang activity and so on. i can assure you my home town makes tacoma look like beverly hills and people giving it a bad rep ought to get out of their own bubble a bit more.

  • @MTGThrownDown
    @MTGThrownDown 7 років тому +12

The crime rate has went down in the past 5 years or so. There's something for everyone. You have the musuem district with the Washington state history museum, Tacoma art musuem aka TAM. Musuem of glass and I can't forget about the LeMay car musuem. And there's the theater district. If you go down Ruston Way, it goes by the water front and it leads up to Point Defiance where the zoo is. Bout 10 minutes south theres the tacoma mall.

Thank you for the video, all I can say is "memories" born and raised in Tacoma, first on 45th and pearl and 9 to 21 on south 8th and junett. Went to point defiance and Grant elementary schools ,Jason lee junior high & a bit at Foss. My kids & I are moving back in May of 19. My son was born in Tacoma but my daughter was born here in Alaska. I want my kids who are now 28 and 18 to experience life, Tacoma is home and I feel like I've robbed them of something amazing by raising them in this freezer box of solitude. So home we come, I thank you for the videos, they serve my homesickness well. Till we meet again Tacoma.

Haven't been Tacoma in two decades. No car since retiring. I remember going to see Tacoma baseball at Cheney Stadium. Took photos of Tacoma Beltline Alco locomotives and walked into hilly shops. Rather large port. Saw Asarco Smelting Plant with tank cars galore. It's been cleaned up and is a park now. Sorta like Seattle's Gasworks Park at Lake Union.

In case you don't already know, you should be aware that the Tacoma area has a terrible public disturbance noise problem. I am mainly referring to the following: 1) Loud subwoofer thumping noises that are blasted through walls and into homes by vehicles and can be heard for several blocks. 2) Loud exhaust noises from vehicles with mufflers removed or with loud "sport" mufflers. 3) Loud sound systems playing inside homes that can be heard inside homes that are many houses away. 4) Fireworks exploded any random time, day or night, 365 days a year, even when no holiday is near. The people doing this are intentionally trying to harass and menace everybody in the community! This is criminal behavior and there is a serious lack of enforcement of the Pierce County Code Chapter 8.72. Loud subwoofers heard from 50+ feet away are illegal. Unmuffled or loud vehicle exhausts, are misdemeanor crimes. The law is very clear and explicit here. The residents of Pierce County do not have to accept this criminality! Please read the law and contact government officials, including law enforcement, and demand that the law be enforced! Loud low-frequency thumping in particular causes violent and explosive emotions in people. There have been many violent incidents and even killings, occurring here and around the nation, that were touched off by loud music being forced into people's homes. No wonder decent people do not want to move here, crime is high, property values are low, and criminals figure if they can get away with public disturbance, they can get away with any other crime. We do not have to accept this constant disturbance of the peace. It is illegal! The quality of life will remain low here until the residents do something about this.
Clips from the current version (2016/2017) of the Pierce County Code Chapter 8.72:
Chapter 8.72 MOTOR VEHICLE, PUBLIC DISTURBANCE, AND PUBLIC NUISANCE NOISE

And you admit what I am saying is true. Shameful. How can anyone be proud that the quality of life is so poor here? And the crime is great too?

Loud low-frequency thumping in particular causes violent and explosive emotions in people. There have been many violent incidents and even killings, occurring here and around the nation, that were touched off by loud music being forced into people's homes. In Parkland, at the University Park Apartments near PLU on February 23rd, 2015, a man whose sleep was disturbed by a neighbor's loud sound system, got in a fight with the man over the noise and stabbed the man to death. Members of my family have been present at three gang shootings in Parkland and Spanaway. The one I was present at was in August 2014 at the Spanaway McDonalds. We arrived right after the shooting, with five children in our van, right before a single Pierce County deputy rushed up and brandished an assault rifle. My brother was present at the gang shooting at the Parkland McDonalds on January 21st, 2013. My nephew, who is a child, was a bystander at a drive-by shooting in a residential neighborhood in Parkland. This is not a good place for bringing up children. How are residents of this area, especially traumatized crime victims, supposed to feel physically safe or secure in their homes, when the criminals openly announce their presence on the streets right outside our homes? The people producing the noise are intentionally trying to harass and menace everybody in the community. Crime and noise pollution harm people's health and wellbeing. The community is made poorer economically and socially. The list of crimes that police responded to each day in Tacoma is publically viewable on the internet. The daily count of crimes is high and constitutes an unacceptable level of crime. Enforcing against noise violators would prevent more serious crime, and would facilitate enforcement against other offenses.

It has been documented by the World Health Organization (WHO) and others that boom car noise:
Causes physical damage at the cellular level
      Can damage human organs
      Induces hearing loss
Impedes learning and cognitive development processes
      Evokes hypertension
      Leads to aggressive behavior
      Causes stress and sleep loss
      Leads to depression
These should be reason enough to ban the sale and use of this type of HI/LF noise maker.
There are other clear reasons why this type of noise needs to stop:
A person who has the right to not listen to this noise is totally unable to escape it; thus their rights are violated.
Boom car operators are often associated with many other types of crimes.
Boom car noise impedes the safety and awareness of motorists and pedestrians through blatant distraction.
It is often too difficult, if not impossible, to identify the perpetrator of acoustic terrorism due to distances, speed, and physical obstacles, thus preventing the reporting of an offense.
Even at its lowest volumes, this type of noise continues upsetting and irritating unwilling listeners like almost no other stimulus can.
Sound technology (highly amplified, low frequency output) is outpacing current laws (measured in db-A).
Military and educational system are advocating the use of boom car technology because it reaches the kids.
The aggressive nature of the perpetrators has directly lead to the murders of innocent victims.
Boom car noise is a continual offense to homeowners and recreation seekers.
Boom car equipment manufacturers base their marketing platform on senseless aggression, social agitation, and the destruction of the well-being of decent citizens.
Citizens are forced into grass roots campaigns against this type of noise due to wealth of industrial lobbyists.
Boom cars are often used to announce the receipt of a new drug shipment to a neighborhood.
Citizens are virtually limited in their autonomy to address this problem (legally).
Amplified noise was used effectively as a weapon by U.S. forces to defeat General Manuel Noriega.
Property values decrease in affected areas.
Research on low frequency amplification for use as a non-lethal control by police was discontinued because of its physically destructive affects to bystanders and, potentially, the subject as well.
Boom cars interfere with the motorist's ability to hear and respond to emergency vehicles.
Noise was the number one neighborhood complaint and the number one reason people move, based on census figures.
There is absolutely no redeeming social, spiritual, economic, or ethical value in the emission of repetitious thumping noises and vibrations that can be heard and felt for over a quarter of a mile.
Property owners are driven to the point of having to move to other areas of a town or state to find temporary comfort.
Not taking timely and appropriate action is the equivalent of demanding that American citizens, including war veterans who fought to ensure our peace and freedom, be subjected to the toxic fallout of the boom car operators instead of being able to enjoy peace that they fought so hard for, even inside their own homes.
We the people have patently tolerated this insane situation far past the point of fairness, and have endured to the edge of our human ability to cope with this abrasive, aggressive, obnoxious, in-your-face activity.
Many folks will be able to relate to this societal abomination on a more personal level...
You are stressed out for being forced to listen to a constant, obnoxious, distracting, dull, percussive THUMP, THUMP THUMP, THUMP, THUMP throughout the day, every day of the week, every week of the month, every month of every year of your life.
You are awakened from sleep at 2:30 AM, and/or robbed of restful sleep, and/or cheated of naps that are needed to compensate for lack of sleep.
You are unable to enjoy dinners on the deck, quiet moments with your kids, garden therapy, or other restful activities in your own back yard.
Sometimes you can't even enjoy a dinner inside a restaurant without being victimized.
It is difficult to drive anywhere without some inconsiderate jerk infringing on your constitutional right to not have to listen to his "music" the entire time you are having to wait at the light, drive abreast, or even travel near him.
You are prevented from performing business or personal endeavors (such as listening to your own music) even when you are IN YOUR OWN HOME, WITH YOUR WINDOWS AND DOORS SHUT, AND YOUR HEADPHONES ON!
Although many of you can actually feel the percussions in your sinus cavity and against your solar plexus, and pressure in your ears, you meet people who are seemingly unaffected by the booming bass, and so you think you are the only one hearing/feeling/experiencing it.
Your attempts at reasonable communication with an offender (if you can identify where it is coming from) are met with rude indifference, manual gestures, or increased amplification.
You are leery of confronting an offender for fear you might be shot. (Yup. There are definite criminal ties here.)
You can hear/feel the thump but cannot tell police or the offender about your discomfort because you are not sure where it is coming from or how far away it might be.
Calls to 911 are met with "there's nothing we can do about it," or "well, they're not breaking the law."
Your quality of life is going south because you are constantly distracted from your pursuits by that constant NOISE!
Even at low decibels, the percussive nature of the bass seems like someone pounding their fist against your house, agravating the occupants and making it difficult to concentrate on work, hobbies, communication, or other life issues.
Your family and loved ones may be stressed because they see how increasingly frustrated you are and feel helpless to do anything about it.

Tacoma city officals have been advertising how wonderful Tacoma is. Looking to trap some more working people to move their so they get tax money to give to the welfare folks. Housing is cheap. Thats because not many good paying jobs for everybody. So Tacoma has become a half step up from the ghetto. I left after 22 years of poverty. Been great since I moved away in 2001. In all fairness to Tacoma. It was a nice place to live up until the mid 80's. Then the criminal elements and riff raff moved in daily. Its become a burglars heaven since. I was down there visiting friends. And went to Fred Meyers. Out of 40 people shopping there. There only 3 whites in the store. I think you understand what I am saying. So do not volunteer to become victims of the elements of Tacoma. Unless you want to become a bum who cant work.
And wants to party and be irresponsible. Tacoma is great for that. The cops will also beat you once your inside the jail house. True story.
