Wow! I remember taking the bus from Darien to Stamford as an 11-year-old schoolgirl, taking sewing lessons in a building downtown during the summer of 1958, and going to Woolworth's and the shoe store nearby with my best friend. We even lived on Summer Street for a short time in 1964-65. My mother worked in a travel agency near there (close to Spring St.). I don't even know if the building we lived in (#700) is still there; I don't think you passed by that area. It really looks nice now. I remember narrower streets and smaller buildings.
I'm surprised your video was that long. I grew up in Stamford for 25 years. Went to school there from elementary to High School. It's not a very large downtown area. There used to be a lot of mom and pop stores downtown, but once they built the mall , downtown became like a ghost town. I miss Stamford many fond memories there, but the housing costs became sky high, since commuters from New York moved there.
I remember i used to live here from 2012 to 2016 it was honestly so lit back then I miss it every single day i dwell on it because it’s that good This city feels so alive it has brought great memories that I wish I can go back to
Gosh, this brings back so many wonderful memories for me. I was born and raised in Stamford. Most of it still looks the same, but I see a lot of newer buildings. UCONN used to be a Bloomingdales store, and the Burlington store used to be a CALDOR store, LOL. McDonald's has been there since forever! The Landmark Square has been there since the 1970s. I used to walk through a short cut with my friends and there used to be a movie theatre there and downstairs, there was the "passage shops". I'm not sure if they are there anymore. They had a skating rink in front of the plaza and in the summer month's, they had tennis courts. There used to be a restaurant called "Ground Round" back in the 1980s. I would eat there with my family and friends. I see the old Woolworth's store is now a Furniture store. Many stores have come and gone. I have fond memories of going to Woolworth's with my Mom. Those were the days! Curley's diner has been a downtown landmark for as long as I can remember. I used to work right downtown. It's a small downtown and easy to get around by foot. I remember when the Mall (town center) opened, it was a really big deal. Stamford has certainly changed a lot over the past 30+ years! Me and all my family have since moved away. It got way too expensive and developed. A lot of good companies moved into the area and Stamford is a nice bedroom community and easy commute to NYC. I recognize the Post Office and the Town Hall. The Avon theatre still looks the same! LOL
ToonieMama All the places you mentioned are bringing back fond memories. Yeah I remember the Bloomingdales there on the corner. Speaking of Caldor's ( that's going way back) that was the first job I ever had when I was 16. I went to Stamford High School ( go Black Knights) and after school I'd walk down Bedford street to Caldor. Those were the days. And I used to go ice skating ⛸ at Landmark square all the time. I saw a lot of movies at the Avon theater. We probably lived there at about the same time.
Well done! Thank you for doing this. I'd like to see a drive up to Bull's Head, continue up High Ridge Road and/or Long Ridge Road, and then get on the Merritt Parkway. Love your steady camera work. You might want to consider adding a soundtrack. Finding the right mood for the music could be really challenging, though.
Que cidade linda! Adoraria conhecer! Ouvi falar quando criança por causa da série "Eu a Patroa e as Crianças" What a beautiful city! I'd love to know! I've heard about when I was child and watched sitcom "My Wife & Kids".
Oh yeah don't forget Jerry Springer,Maury, and Steve Wilkos shows are taped in Stamford. You can see the theater at 19:35 into the video. Look on the right side, you'll see the sign that says #youknowyouwatch.
you should do St. Louis, MO. It has some really beautiful neighborhoods like the Central West End, and really old historical, dense areas on the Southside.
jesus, was this recorded over the weekend? i love it! why are your streets so clean? in nyc, you cant even fart with so many people around, and it smells like piss and shit everywhere and there's homeless bums everywhere. i think i'm willing to take a pay cut and move to stamford. my nerves are shot living in nychitty. the noise, polution, and lack of any green space (except for having one giant park where only billionaires live) makes living here miserable.
It's changed a lot since I was there. No more Delaney's,no more Villa old man bar,no more Bedford Records.I guess things change. Is the bagel place still there in Bull's Head?
I know it seems like it's out of place, but I think if you look on the right side there is an office building there. It's probably for when they get of from work that there is some flow to merge on the street, or else it would take forever to enter onto the street. It's like merging onto the highway you know how some people will not let you enter in front of them even though they can't go anywhere because of the traffic ahead.
Bee Guy Lol that's the truth. That used to be nice when I was growing up there. Now I wouldn't even stick my big toe in that water. If that's what you can call it.
pacluv yeah, my city has only 160 thousand people and is always full of life in the parks, by those people who do not work all day (Young people, etc) May be a cultural thing, the weather here does help a lot for people to use the public space
the cost of living is very high there because it is so close to New York City people actually commute to New York everyday from Stamford it is only about an hour each way

I know it seems like it's out of place, but I think if you look on the right side there is an office building there. What's amazing is no one mentioned Paul Newman or Dave Letterman...
That's because most people associate Stamford with WWE.
Letterman lived in New Canaan; Newman lived in Westport (which is where Martha Stewart lives). Gene Wilder was a longtime Stamford resident.
