- The other day, I was walking around when the Witch of the Waste ripped out my heart and my castle crumbled apart. Presenting the NEXT EVOLUTION of Howl's Moving Castle! But this time, with 5% of the effort! Exciting! This is part of an ongoing series where I craft various things from my favorite Studio Ghibli films.

Suggestion: the mystery shack from gravity falls. I think it would be relatively simple (at least compared to moving castle) and could look pretty interesting. I know you do videogame stuff mostly, but thought it might be worth suggesting. Love your work and especially the calming commentary and music. Keep doing what you want to do 👍

13:28 In the book, Michael (book version of Markl) says that the day Howl forgets to spend at least an hour on his appearance in the morning will be the day he believes Howl’s really in love. Then at the end, Howl shows up to rescue Sophie looking an unshaven mess. So not having him look perfect is actually book accurate lol.
This is really impressive! I'd love to see Coraline's house and garden and I wouldn't be surprised if others also did!
I would value Howl's Castle at $54,000. This is justified as $45/hr x 400 hours (x3) given that is a typical art industry formula
Also there is only one, though idk how the copy right would work, since it is part of a franchise.

though sadly unrealistic probably tops $10k-$15k . Most artists i know earn around $20 per hour. My guess would be roughly x2, but even for this price i see noone buying it.

I love Howl's Moving Castle, but Ponyo holds a special place in my heart. It'd be really neat if you could do the house from Ponyo on the hill, but from that scene where the water has already flooded up to the doorway. With the big toy boat at the entrance, obviously.

"How much is a trash sculpture"
In the art world, what you create is called an assemblage. Considering it took you over two whole months to craft, all the work you did to put it together and paint it,
Barring the paint, I'd say what you create definitely goes for a few hundred USD for sculpture. Just the complete castle looks like, if you auctioned it off, it would jump past 1000$ in no time.

This man is absolutely right. I too listen closely when my sewing needle shatters over the floor. You gotta find those suckers fast, before it's too late.
It's part of the reason I always work in silence, when building, and only turn on music for when I'm painting.

You will find the needle eventually, although tbf finding it with your bare feet is not optimal.

It is uncanny how much you and the you suck at cooking guy sound alike, it all works even though your channels are completely different from each other. The dry humor and rhymes are the best

the way the build is absolutely amazing and breathtaking and the level of detail OMG and then you get spophia, tyrnip head, small man, blob 1, and blob 2. and dead body

I love the visual of the castle walking along the mountainside, it just keeps on moving despite only being a section of floor boards and its last remaining chicken legs!😂 Just keeps on trucking!🚛
protip for acrylics: they're plastic bonding so using too much water will make the paint chip and crackle in the long run
for a more long-lasting wash, using a clear lacquer is much better! (and has the added bonus of getting to choose between a gloss and a matte for the wash)

“Echolocation is key for finding craft projectiles” truer words have never been spoken. Cutting off a piece of stubborn wire only to realize you’re in a room with a carpet is the worst satisfaction-to-instant-dread turn under the sun.
The worst is when you do find it but, it is later on and with the soft part of the bottom of your foot! That is a recurring problem in my crafting life.
It would be pretty awful if that went into a clothes basket into underwear and it stabs your balls. Like maybe you live in a small house and don't have much room for everything so you just got the basket on the floor.
when I cut a bit of a warhammer off the sprue and it vanishes into the abyss. I hope somebody on ebay is willing to scalp $5 from me for a plastic head smaller than a pea so that I don't have to rebuy the whole $55 kit
For steel/iron wire you can use a HDD magnet you rub over the carpet. I found a few bits and pieces that way.
Though with copper, you're just fucked.

love it. but it's not the sad version to me, it's in many ways the happiest one, as it's the place where howl finally gets his heart back
Late to the party, as always, but the "bark broth" can be used for painting/staining if you're looking for a redish brown hue.
I've tried bark from both Alder (alnus glutinosa) and pine (pinus sylvestris) and it works very well.
Plus, since you already have the bark it's pretty cheap. :D
I know it's just a joke that you held a hammer to the last one, but man, just the thought of that had me on edge for a few seconds. Both versions are a masterpiece!

Princess Mononoke is my favorite Ghibli movie, I'd love to see something from it! The creepy goo monster from the very beginning, a tree with the kodama+forest spirit in his night form, the little island the forest spirit comes to, or even Irontown if you're feeling overly ambitious could all be really cool.
I'd love to see the Hotel Adriano from Porco Rosso or even Porco's plane. Love all of your videos and can't wait to see what you create next!

I used to watch my dad build car models and he made basic terrains to mount them on. I could sit there mesmerized by him crafting for hours, which is a lot for a little kid! His mental health declined and, unfortunately, I haven't had a relationship with him since I was 8 (22 years ago). However, watching your channel has kind of sparked these memories that I forgot I had and I have been getting into terrain and model building with my kids and it feels like a way to celebrate the dad he used to be. Sorry for the sappy tangent, but great job and thanks for the awesome content!

Price for the big Castle estimate around 7000 € (~8230 $ as of writing the comment). counting an hourly wage of 20 € which is honestly quite low for such skills. I'd say it could easily be more valuable :) Thank you for your amazing crafts and videos Studson, they are such a blast to watch!

Your Howl's Moving Castle build was randomly recommended to me by the algorithm and I was a little hesitant to click on it because of the long video time. Man am I glad I clicked on it. That was one of the most entertaining and informative videos I have ever watched. The combination of humor, great editing, and amazing crafting skills had me hooked the whole time. I've just come from watching you build the absolute BEHEMOTH that was the Big castle version and I can say with full certanity nothing has made my heart stop more than when you began to take those hammers to the model in the first 20 seconds.
Either way, both of these of these are so beautiful and I can't wait to go through the rest of the amazing models you have on your channel :)
OH! I know this! So based on the pricing metric I was taught in college (hours worked + cost of materials + 25% for overhead = wholesale price, doubled for full price), assuming that you pay yourself $20 an hour for work, and it cost $100 in materials, the full Moving Castle should be worth around $20,250
It all depends on how much you want to pay yourself hourly, I was taught that a beginner might go for just over minimum wage, but with time and skill that wage should obviously go up. There's obviously a ton of time and skill that goes into this (it's so beautiful), so $20 would probably be the low end of that, I saw someone else suggest $45 per hour

while the materials probably dont count up to to much profit, any artist will tell you that your skilled labor is worth alot! Make sure to value it!
