@@saucetiny I know it was mostly a joke, but there are legit psychological problems brought on by people mistaking fiction for reality. It occurs in most women and all children, where they see something on a movie, tv, video game, or book and take it as reality subconsciously. It's why nearly all propaganda and advertising targets those groups. It leads to unrealistic perceptions and ultimately, unhappiness.

I dont know if Wemby becomes a greater basketball player than Tim Duncan was but he definitely has even more talent than Tim. Talentwise he's possibly the best basketball player the game has ever seen.
    And the scariest though:
Have Popovich as a coach and train with Duncan to learn his moves? Like really?

Call me high on him idc and I’m a Heat fan so don’t call me out on spurs fan bias but yea this dude like easily has top 10 player potential and I do think he’s gonna come in averaging like 23 maybe 21 but definitely over 20 and like 8 rebounds and 4 assists and it’ll be clear like RIGHT away he’s a guy like he’ll be better than how like Luka was I’m first few years and I don’t think he’s gonna stop like I said top 10 player he will eventually take the crown from Jokic/Giannis and will quite possibly be this generations like next version of lebron as just that freak that carries the nba for over a decade 🤷

If he's anywhere near Duncan level good he has a good shot at bieng top 10 all-time, and if you think about he's kinda got it all. Great attitude toward the game and is awesome in front of cameras and interviews, is a team player, a leader, and is well liked by his teammates. Notice how I didn't even mention one thing good about him on the court? usually guy's with that type of talent have one or the other, there either insane talents without a great work ethic or there the opposite. Very very rarely do we see someone dedicated to basketball and more talented than anyone else in the room. He's got the height, the shooting, the defence, the play-making, and though he isnt the best rebounder I mean look at him, all he has to do is spend an off season working on it and im sure he'd be awesome at it. Best coach of all time in Pop and one of the best front offices/organizations in basketball. It's almost not even a hot take to say he's gonna be a top 15 player of all time

I could see him easily average 3-4 block a game and a steal or two other some insane defensive metrics. I genuinely believe he could win DPOY his rookie year for sure, especially under Pop who will PUSH him to be an incredible defender. look i understand wanting to give players time to acclimate to the league, but if you don’t see the immense potential that wemby has then you’re blind. its ok to hype up a unique prospect when they’ve shown this much promise.
i think its more silly to act like people cant be excited about wemby bc he hasnt played a certain amount of nba games

    • @patrickhanlon2325

@chadtheafricanbullfrog418 no no people can absolutely get excited about him and project greatness. It's people saying " there's no way he isn't one of the greatest players ever" or " he's 100% going to change the game". That's outrageous claims imo and overhyping a kid who doesn't need that pressure

@@patrickhanlon2325 i feel you, too many people put way too much pressure onto young athletes and people should def be aware of that. in this situation with wemby though, im willing to hype him up bc he seems like the real deal. at one point in time kareem and lebron were just prospects who were hyped up to be great and they went above and beyond everyone’s expectations, and i genuinely feel like wemby is the same caliber of talent.
in general i 100% agree that people put too much pressure on young players but in this case with wemby i think it’s appropriate bc of how unique and talented he already is.

I'm just as impressed as anyone by what Wemby's doing, but I'm not quite sure I agree with the expression "he will change the NBA forever". Or maybe it is that I don't understand the meaning of that expression in the first place. Let me explain:
From my perspective, when a guy like Steph Curry demonstrates that shooting 10+ three-pointers per game is worth it (provided you're a capable shooter, not necessarily the greatest shooter of all time) and many teams try to reinvent their strategies to increase their 3pt shooting, THAT is changing the game. Or maybe even trying to run your playmaking through your center a la Jokic.
However, in Wemby's case, I don't quite see how other teams can try to incorporate his playstyle because, well, he is not doing anything new; it's "just" that it is unprecedented to see such a huge human being performing those moves because bigger people tend to be "clumsier".
My point is that not because Victor can make moves historically associated to smaller players will the teams start to use big men doing such stuff (no one else can and that's precisely Wemby's value, whereas many players are capable 3pt shooters and teams can attempt more of those shots), thus I don't think he will change the NBA even if he ends up retiring as the undisputed GOAT. Again, maybe I just misunderstood what people mean when they talk about changing the NBA.

Guys, it’s ok to get hyped about the preseason. Really if your hype is unjustified you will not be charged with a crime for it. I keep seeing these lukewarm “let’s remember it’s just the preseason” takes. Everyone online is afraid of being wrong about something like they’re an NBA analyst with a reputation to uphold. It’s basketball guys. It’s a game. You’re allowed to have a little fun with it. You’re not being graded. Allow yourself to feel hyped about something. If he disappoints that’s ok too. Yes he’s human. Yes he has limitations. Yes tall guys are prone to injury. But let’s all just take a deep breath, have some fun overreacting to games, and just remember not to get toxic and put undue pressure on the kid. He’s allowed to fail. You’re allowed to hype. It’s all going to be ok.

Just to start, Wilt was more athletic (50" vertical vs Wemby's 32") and much more powerful. Victor is slight of build and plays much more of a finesse game. Honestly, I don't know who to compare Wemby to. He is really one-of-a-kind.
