Great video! Any tour on the Rhine or Danube is a good one. We did the Basel to Amsterdam one in December 2022 for the Christmas markets and enjoyed it immensely. We did find however that after the first few markets, they all sold the same range of products and like American malls, if you go there later in the day, they were super crowded. Anytime you can combine beauty, with history, and Christmas, you have a winner.

We are in the throes of planning a Christmas Market cruise for 2023. Trying to find out how you enjoyed yours this year. Of particular interest - how were the markets? Did you have ample time on your own? Were they all open at the time you were there? Looking at the itinerary, it seems that most market visits occur in the morning to early afternoon. Looking forward to an insightful response from you. Thanks!

We loved it. We arrived in Cologne on December 1st so it was all set up and open. We had about five hours which was adequate to see the cathedral and shop the markets. We did not join one of the ship’s tours that day. In Strasberg we did their tour and we didn’t have enough free time. I know that the market in Rudeshiem was open until 9 p.m. I’m not sure about the others. I’m not sure about our last stop but the other markets were open until the late afternoon. There were a lot of food and drink booths so it was easy to bypass those to visit the markets that had ornaments. Even though it didn’t seem like we had tons of time in each port, we felt like we saw and experienced each town thoroughly. Are you doing the Rhine? The Danube is on our list to do as well. We loved river cruising. We got to know a lot of great people.

Hi Eric did you end up booking a Christmas market cruise for this holiday season? Would love to hear any details. Possibly looking to do one with Viking next year.

Who did you travel with? We did this in Dec with scenic but it was anything but Xmas. Even Xmas day wasn't celebrated. Ship had a non descript Xmas tree and a couple of ginger bread houses.

We traveled with Amawaterways. I’m sorry your experience wasn’t very festive.

Unfortunately you missed the most important site in all of Amsterdam. Anne Frank’s house. One of the most moving experiences I can recall in all my travels.

We couldn’t get tickets. We tried online and then tried again when we got to Amsterdam. We were disappointed about that.

@@katiemansfield973 well, that’s a good reminder for me then. The last time I was there I don’t recall any problem getting tickets but that was a while ago. We are going to do the Christmas markets cruise in 2024 and I insisted to my girlfriend who is going with me that we don’t leave Amsterdam without going to Anne Frank’s house. It’s just such a moving experience. So thanks for the heads up.❤️
