    To remove seals without scratching the bore, consider what most of us already have: a tire spoon.
    The Motion Pro 08-0409 I have in my tool bag works great!
    As always, another useful vid from Jeff

    You can freeze the bearings before installing to help them go in easier also.

    I froze the bearings in the freezer and heated the hub with the torch and they just slid right in. When it cooled it was locked in solid...

    If you are replacing wheel spacers, use the old ones as drivers for the new bearings.

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  2 роки тому +1

      Keith: I'm sorry but that won't work. Using the spacers as drivers would push on the inner race and damage the bearing.

    Double sealed LOW spinning bearings for DIRT BIKE wheels should be stuffed with water prove HD grease.The little factory Vaseline grease is only for assambly reasons and to protect the bearing from corrosion.

    Thanks for the helpful video.my 2015 ktm Xcw bearing spacer is too long ,now it causes my bearings to bind up against spacer,and not spin freely . I have the distance ring in place and my bearings bind up and wore out prematurely.can i shave down the length of spacer slightly so it sits flush with bearing seat, instead of it being raised slightly like it is? Thanks

      @Helmut-e7w 3 роки тому +2

      Yes you can. I did it often when needed. Before you reinstall the spacer tube cut 2 slots into the end so next time you change bearings you can find the bearing edge easy.

    I used MAPP gas for around 45 seconds or so and had the new bearings in the freezer. I let the hub cool down but the new bearings slid right into the hub bearing bore. Did I expand the hub too much? Any way to fix it?

  • @cbob1

    My wheel had a "distance ring". The fiche (# 16 p/n 77710015000) has it between bearing and hub and it binds the bearing. It's not in your video. Does this "distance ring" get installed in the trash can?

    • @slaverace1

      Some years use a distance rings and others do not.

    Hey Jeff, Hi from Aus.
    I’m just changing the rear bearings on my 19 KTM 300 and when I knocked the bearing out on the drive side I noticed it had a (what KTM call on their parts list) a distancing ring which is black plastic. None of the aftermarket bearing kits come with this.
    Is it a critical piece that I have to get from the dealer extra or can I do without?
    Cheers Ben

    • @slaverace1
      @slaverace1  2 роки тому +2

      Hello Ben: It is a necessary piece. Without it, when the axle is tightened the bearings would have an extreme side load and that will cause excessive drag and premature failure.

    • @Tyler27B
      @Tyler27B 9 років тому +1

      They are sealed bearings so they don't need it. Grease is fantastic at attracting dirt and grit.

      @@glennvandenberg3912 Wrong Glenn.Tyler is right.I grease every one of my wheel bearings with HD waterproof grease because the little Vaseline lube the factory puts into the bearing is only for transportation anti corrosion but not enough for DIRT BIKE wheel bearings function.

    Suppose you have an issue with hub bearing seats getting worn out because you tap, and mushroom the outter bearing race, prior to it being driven in.

      I damaged mine pretty good taking the bearings out which I can't see how you could replace them without doing that but I can't find it on any oem parts diagram for my bike. I'm just gonna go without it for now and see if I can find one in the future.

      @@slaverace1 Thanks for the quick response but LIKE I SAID, my bike has one in it and this was the first time having to replace the bearings on this bike but it's been damaged pretty badly during the process and I can't even find a replacement. I'm just wondering why they eliminated that part on all of the parts lists. Maybe I'll throw the old one back in or try to make my own but obviously a new one would be the best option.

      @Mother Algorithm I just caught up ,I see way some people think that but I don't agree because I have been doing it forever and seen the results that proved that logic is wrong because a unpacked or lightly-packed-bearing is much likely to fail from the constant impact abuse .

    Thanks again Jeff. I've got a 2008 300 EXC and my spacer tube doesn't look exactly like yours and it feels slightly too wide making it hard to seat the bearing opposite side to the circlip. Should they all look like yours with a slight tapered end? Mine just looks like a straight tube, no frills.

    No mention of the "Distance Ring" the weird plastic washer KTM p/n 77710015000.
    I just did my 2015 TE300 rear wheel bearings and found this washer. When trying to reassemble adding the washer stopped the bearing from seating and bound the axle spacer to the inner races - didn't feel right at all! Thinking I should leave it out??
