Love this Dennis DeYoung. Styx is dead to me without him. Can't wait to see them live tonight 2018-08-17 at the CNE in Toronto, Canada. The Best of Times is my fav Styx song of all time. But the Grand Illusion and this song is a great album!
I had seen the band currently called "Styx" a bunch of times before I finally had the opportunity to see Dennis DeYoung doing his live show with his current band. No word of a lie, when he came out, and began singing I choked up, and tears welled in my eyes. THAT is Styx!!!! I will never bother with the Tommy Shaw Styx Tribute Band ever again.
He’s been doing the extra flourish in the beginning of GRand Illusion since ‘78. No reason to change it now. As a singer you love the flourish because it allows you to hold the notes out. About the stand ins. Would it bother you less if they didn’t look like TS and JY? I personally don’t care how they look I care how they sound.
Who cares if his wife is there? You can’t even hear her in the mix. She doesn’t kill the music in any way. In a perfect world she wouldn’t be onstage. I will agree with that.
Megalomania at its best! Here re Tommy and J.Y. Look alike's and my no talent wife swaying in the corner. Thank God for the real deal for keeping it together and releasing great new material.
That poser band that you call the " real deal" has to pay Dennis DeYoung over 1/2 their night's earnings each night because a mostly sing his music. DD's wise man is in All Pro Studio musician band. Yes his wife is not professional per se but she can harmonize and carry a tune. They wouldn't have her in the group if she couldn't sing No matter how much he loves her. The current lineup only has 2 Pros the drummer and keyboardist. So run along and keep listening to your poser tribute band. I'll listen to the ddy band AKA Styx!
r Ma Lawrence Gowan and Todd Sucherman have now been in Styx longer than DD was. They are a complete democratic band free of bubblegum sap written over and over by an egomaniac. His posters are hilarious, grandstanding with two JY and Tommy clones with him in the middle. Dennis....casinos. Styx...arenas. As far as royalties and setlists go, all of his awful ballads have been dropped for years. So the royalty claim is outright BS. He might get 1/8. Doesn’t matter anyway.
I love Dennis but his group and the entire Dennis sings "Styx" is just not the same as JY & Tommy... Tommy and JY's songs just contributed so differently as they were the godfather and soul of the group. Dennis had so many lame/crappy songs that were just jammed to radio... Mr. Robato, Don't let it end, Music Time, and yes even "Babe"... Dennis could not stop the ballads,ballads, ballads, and don't forget "1st time. I did really like most of Dennis's solo work... "Gravity" was his best attempt to rewrite "Fooling Yourself" but he would never sing it. We all know they will never reunite (unless they all go broke) but really when its "Styx" just have another front man sing Dennis's songs and nobody knows or even cares....

Ahhh yes 40 short years ago bought Grand Illusion on 8 track. Those were the days.

You can replace the guitarist in STYX but not the original vocalist. Long live Dennis DeYoung.
