For a game released in 2010 this still looks amazing, better than a lot of games that out there.
its cos theres a mod making it better. though vanilla still holds up alright for now
The only game from the Empire series that holds up gameplay wise for enjoyment every time.. Imagine the empire map with Napoleon gameplay… Perfection
(From a Medieval 2 /Rome remastered man)

@@karzeng2966 he does, the mod is called ntw3 which is an improvement for the original game ntw

"My enemies are many. My equals are none.
In the shade of olive trees, they said Italy could never be conquered.
In the land of pharaohs and kings, they said Egypt could never be humbled.
In the realm of forest and snow, they said Russia could never be tamed.
Now they say nothing. They fear me, like a force of nature - a dealer in thunder and death!
I say: I am Napoleon. I am EMPEROR!"
LOL Russia clapped his cheecks
I remember this battle, that French horde coming at us was something else
If the battles were this size in single player I would not stop playing
Well, they are, the AI is just freaking stupid
@@shrtbred787 nah, the ai wont build a 20 man deathstack even with ntw3 even if theydo, its pretty easy to defeat

@@shrtbred787as an Austria main, and as someone who has beaten the 1805 Austria campaign on hard, I can confirm this is the best you’ll get to multiplayer NTW3
As a Frenchman myself I can confirm that to become an old guard you had to be:
under 35 years of age at entry
at least 10 years of service
at least three campaigns (some had fought in as many as 12 campaigns)
had to have faced enemy fire at the front
had to be 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 m) for the Chasseurs and 5 feet 10 inches (1.78 m) for the Grenadiers.
Also the member of the old guard were wearing a gold earring.
Keep the good work :))
That’s crazy how experienced those men must have been
As a French,I am telling y'all:We are proud of our stinky cheese, baguettes and croissants
And white flags
Yea the white flag French love it dearly

The glorious gunfire, uniforms and, of course, the mustaches! Napoleon is definetly one of the best total wars. Keep it up, my king!
What an amazing battle, it was so cinematic, it was very realistic looking because of all the formations and the fact that like the historical Borodino, it was quite bloody. Congratulations to all the players in this replay, because they achieved something very entertaining. XD
That was awesome!!
The big mass of infantry attacking wasn‘t that unrealistic. It was a tactic often deployed by the french, to get many man as fast as possible closer to the enemy, then deploy lines and attack. Or even just overcome the enemy line by pure mass. Also, it was often easier to maintain a column rather than a line formation with less experienced conscripts. That might not have been the case at borodino, I do not know, but certainly in the peninsula war, where the red lines tended to smash the blue columns
in the peninsular war during one battle arriving french columns attempted to join a shootout against a British firing position and form into a firing line but were constantly disrupted by British fire and unable to form up properly. I imagine part of the difficuly having to step over fallen soldiers...
A lot like how the Roman legions did their formations when marching into battle
There was at least 2 big episodes with massive infantry close combat - the battle for Bagration's fleches and assault on Raevsky redoubt.
The Swedes also loved the massed infantry assault, and the Russians adopted this from them after decades of wars.
The idea of saving gunpowder and cartridges was so liked by our generals that the expression appeared: "a bullet is a fool, a bayonet is good one"
"thin red line" is a myth.
@@afisto6647 Yeah. The Anglo-German-Dutch line at Waterloo was extremely deep. That was the only way they could muster enough firepower to stop the Middle Guard's advance.
I love your videos Apollo, especially the coverage of these amazing NTW3 Battles.
Was a hell of a game to organize and make. Thanks for the coverge
The most epic NTW3 I have ever seen, and I have seen all your NTW3 vidoes. Please do more content of battles like this.
Borodino was the bloodiest battle in all of the French revolution and Napoleonic wars. Both sides took around 40000 casualties, but it was considered a French tactical victory that led to the capture of Moscow.
No it was the bloodiest day not the bloodiest battle the bloodiest battle was Leipzig

I love the new format with facecam! Keep up the good work :)
keep em coming! been watching all of the older NTW3 vids you have lately
Hey, just to help your knowledge of French, "fer" means iron (the metal) and it is pronounced like "faire". "Ferreux" means containing iron, "chemin de fer" means railway and "ferroviaire" designates something related to railways.
J'espère que ça te sera utile !
And so the unit's nickname is essentially "men of iron" or "iron men"! :D
@@TheZombifiedGuy Indeed.
Have you ever seen the Soviet adaption of "War and Peace" from the 60's? It's a 4-parter, directed by the same guy who directed "Waterloo", and part 3 contains the Battle of Borodino. You can watch it on UA-cam: ua-cam.com/video/wpKA1meiJzs/v-deo.html The battle starts at around 45:00 and goes for ca. 30 minutes. There's a lot of stuff you will certainly love, as in "Waterloo" the director had access to several 1000 Soviet soldiers and to a large fund of uniforms and horses.
"Les Boute-Dehors" means "the kick-outs". "Bouter hors de France" (to kick out of France) is a famous phrase attached to various resistance movements historicaly where the invading party was kicked out, or when a leader aspired to kick the invader out (Charles Martel and the Maures, Joan of Arc and the English, Clemenceau and the Germans in WWI...)
Les Gros Hussards indeed means "The fat hussards". (Silent S however on Gros). La grosse Charue means the big plough. And les hommes de fer "The Men of Iron". Les Doubistes is an odd one, it just means "the men from the Doubs", a region in France.
This battle was real nice, I have to say. Sure you don't have the idea of vasteness of the battlefield contrary to usual, but this one gave a better sense of scale troop-wise (A single corps was around 40k men. Ranks were packed, not spaghetti lines). The packed men and slight terrain "fort" the russians had reminded me of the assault on Les Fleches, at Borodino.
@Venusaur h being a consonant, no, even if it is a "silent" one. The liaison is only made with vowels. For instance "Les gros immeubles" > "les grozimmeubles".
You mentioned the carnage several times. The human cost of politicians adventures is unimaginable. While the politicians, kings and emperors get the spoils and riches the poor soldier get a worthless piece of tin and ribbon to wear. Nothing much has changed today, with many veterans living out in the streets.
Napoleon created l’hôpital des invalides monsieur, wich is now a museum but at the time was a big hospital for veterans of la grande armée.
Man, I absolutely love all the bugal calls and drums throughout the whole battle!
Wow really like this scenario. Loving the ntw3 :D
Watching videos this way is much more enjoyable. Easier to pay attention to and follow. Also keep it up with the camera and the hat, pretty cool
6:18 - 7:00 is straight trailer material. If you want someone to understand, why NTW is still relevant/why that era needs another visit: That's it. Just a minute into the first proper engagement.
The power of initiative was key here- both sides lost most of their cavalry in successive counter charges centered around the Russian guns. The same cavalry battle would be a net zero elsewhere, but because the French charged the artillery first the enjoyed a significant advantage for the remainder of the battle.
Sometimes I wish you could alter morale ratings for historical settings like the single player versions do. Borodino was such a bloodbath in large part because the soldiers refused to surrender.
Why are the firing so ineffective in NTW3, you would think a whole volley of firing (Especially close range) would take out more than five troops at a time.
Great video. This already looks like a battle of those times. More precisely, an episode of the battle. This is a cool form, I hope to see more videos in this style
The first time i watched you, I was 11. I'm 19 now and goddamn
"I can't see myself stabbing a wounded guy on the ground" fair statement but wouldn't also show a bit of humanity. Imagine you come across a 17 year old kid shredded from musket fire and slowly bleeding with no chance of survival, it could be a mercy at times as well
We need more videos like this I love it.
I have to give a like for that hat and picture in the background. I find them very appealing for some reason...
Probably the best looking battle I've scene
This IS THE BEST NAPOLEONIC REALISTIC BATTLE YOU UPLOADED GREAT! NOW MAKE LEIPZIG WITH10x LARGER FEILD AND TROOPS!
What does that mean?
Are you gonna make that battle?
Love your videos dude been watching them since I was 6 always great to see these
Lol. When that artillery barely limbers in time to escape the French linemen, I heard the Benny Hill theme song in my head.
uff if there was something like this on the whole scale of field... looks really cool
i unsubscribed to this channel as it was just banner lord or rome i now am back and subscribed this is the best typ of video

I can't stop watching 26:19 over and over💀
Yes, I am, indeed watching.
To me at 4:05 it looks like that waterloo movie where the old guard matches in
Apollo believe me you made my days during covid lockdown. Those boring days were entertaini for you.
Special mention: Jackie Fish also.
As the french I would have widened my troops formations. Standing bunched up in almost a travel formation may look intimidating, but definitely not as effective.
oh lol i thought this was a 1v1 and both were controlloning armies. i was like wow!
Always fun to watch your battles Apollo , always good to see you on the screen too as well!
It's so funny to look on you 9 years old videos, where you can hear the mouse clicking and your teenager voice and then going back to now. You content quality grew so much!
PS. Hope to see more Medieval TTW battles
WAIT WHEN DID PIXELATED APPOLLO SHAVE! The luxurious beard is no more 😭😭😭
Being a Frenchman i can say your French impression is Hilarious. Nevertheless, I am a huge fan, Keep up the good work, love your content. And i want to thank you for getting me into strategy.
Apollo you should try rising front highly recommend it
The massed attack is an effective tactic if done right, and the enemy reacts inappropriately.
The French had the positive affect of close support which helped to increase their morale. And a unit in trouble or tired could be withdrawn quickly behind supporting units which could be pulled up. The Russian artillery was pressed early and made less effective with the mass attack( at the cost of sacrificing that one unit).
The Russians tired their units out trying to maneuver in an attempt to outflank the French, but the French used less energy just turning their flanks alongside the massed attack.
And of course by maneuvering the Russians had to turn their back and expose their sides to fire.
Freaking love these Apollo. Definitely need more
Hon hon hon!.Apollo est en facecam!et Napoleon supervises!
Best battle I have ever watched
man that unit cross with cav was horrendous
i really enjoy your commentary!
The red rockets red glare 😂😂😂
My kind of video and battle hope to see more content like this! good job guys
appollo, you can change your camera to the debug (unrestricted) camera which allows you to get alot better angles for your vids such as top down or looking up on troops from ground or even looking straight at sky
in the search bar do = %appdata% -> roaming if your not already automatically in roaming -> Napoleon -> scripts -> preferences.script - then scroll down to the line saying default_camera_type 0; # default_battle_camera , default battle camera: 0-totalwar 1-rts 2-debug #
then change the first 0 to a 2 and then reload your game
disclaimer: every time you change your settings in game it resets the script returning the camera to normal
That battle that cost Russia 45K man and the french 35K French 80K man died in one day which is crazy Napoleon in Russia was really scary time I wander how things would go if Napoleon and Alexander did not fight
What a beautiful video. Simply looking at the aftermath you can see why they didn’t fight like this, haha
Amazing Battle. Love the Videos. Keep up the good work.
God tier commentating and facecam with the legend himself
Please make more NTW videos please! They are always so good and nobody else makes them.
I love the historical battle column the French used. I think the Russians lost because they weren't aggressive enough on their right flank, they brought their reserves over but didn't utilise them in a mass bayonet charge, instead charging and falling back, leaving the French to gain the initiative. I think if the Russians had concentrated their artillery on their left flank while being aggressive with the infantry on their left flank, with supporting cavalry, they could have turned the battle. That said it was well fought by both sides and a pleasure to watch.
Yes dads back from getting smokes. Thanks for the video and the pro golf tips.
Love the smell of Gunpowder in the upload feed 💨🔥🔫
Really like the face cam for your commentary. Love your content bro.

That hat is dope.
Will you make a video addressing the Windows 11- 12 gen CPU instant crash issue plaguing Napoleon rn? I literally cannot play the game, and it seems like a lot of others are in that same boat.
Battle looked beautiful but those tactics terrify me
Awesome like always
Another incorrect detail of this battle is that the cannons fired all the time with cannonballs, not buckshot, as it was in reality. Buckshot is very powerful to stop infantry columns, but the player who fought for the Russians for some reason did not switch cannons to buckshot mode, even at close range.
Now I've done a bunch of deep diving into the Napoleonic Wars, all the simping for Napoleon has ended up being a lot funnier to me, because he really wasn't that exceptional a general when it came to massive set piece battles. Borodino is an example of him kind of being unimaginative when it came to managing a sprawling front line, and how with the exception of Austerlitz, most of his major battles were pyrrhic victories, or failed to be decisive. He was skilled, certainly, but not that much better than many of his contemporaries, including his most gifted marshals (Davout was giga chad).
We look for his genius in the wrong places; where he really shone was in wars of manoeuvre, when he controlled a single, relatively small army, and used it to run rings around his opponents. The Italian campaign and his final defence of France before the surrender in 1814 were masterclasses in this sort of rapid, scrappy warfare.
Wow!!! Can I get the link for this. This looks like the revolutionary war and I’d love to start getting into civil and revolutionary war games like these
Finally. Bigs armies. Small field.
And what's awsome, is the French historically, steam rolled in force like that. And kept going.
3:40 a cannonball in face is not sweet.
Hey Apollo love your ntw3 content I'm curious if your going to play some more Darktide as well ??
great vid!
Appollo: French is do difficult!

It looked like the French deployed double the Russians, great battle 👍🏻

Very good vid. very good mod too. I like the thing that player have to use multi line of regiment(battalion?) formation for the make reserve. not like traditional(In gaming) single long line formation.

hey apollo, I know you love NTW, and you could bring light to this issue, but NTW does not work for 12th gen intel processors, it crashes on launch and the developers have left many fans in the dust and dark with no answer or solution to the issue.
