    Hello and welcome to Old Ways Gardening and Prepping.🍀 Would like to welcome you each on another adventure with us on this beautiful morning. Today we are going to be gathering a very important medicinal herb for women's health. We were blessed to be able to gather beautiful Chaste tree berries also known as Vitex agnus-castus.
    This medicinal plant goes by many names such as Chaste tree, Vitex, Monk's pepper, chasteberry, cloister pepper, hemp tree and Texas lilac. It is hardy from Growing Zones 5-9. However in Zones 5-6 it might have to be treated as a perennial due to it dieing back and coming back yearly. It originally came from temperate climates in the Mediterranean and Asia. Chaste tree will grow well in full sun to part shade, though the best flowering occurs in full sun.
    Now let's talk about some of the amazing medicinal benefits of the beautiful Chaste tree. It reduces a variety of PMS symptoms including breast pain and tenderness, edema, constipation, irritability, depressed mood, anger, and migraines. It has also shown help for premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a more severe form of PMS. Also it may be effective in the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome. Widely known to reduce levels of the hormone prolactin and it helps to rebalance hormones like estrogen and progesterone within. Vitex aids immensely in relieving PMS symptoms.
    Menopausal symptoms such as mood swings, pelvic discomfort, interrupted sleep, and hot flashes can also be reduced by it's hormone-balancing abilities. Vitex can cause minor side effects like stomach upset or nausea. It should not be taken while pregnant and should not be taken by those using hormonal birth control as well. Due to the fact it increases your natural fertility causing a woman to be more fertile. So use with caution if not wanting to become pregnant.
    In men Vitex agnus-castus is also taken by mouth to increase the flow of urine in men, for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and for reducing sexual desire. With this all being said please do your own research to learn more about this herb and is right for you.
    Hope this video encourages you to also do more research on the beautiful Chaste or Vitex tree to see if it is right for you. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them in the comment section below I will answer them as soon as possible. Everyone take care and have a blessed day.
    Blessings,
    Teresa

    I am so grateful for your video. I was gifted some chasre berries. After ulling them off the stock and drying them, I have about one cup. It's a small batch, but I'm so excited to be able to make it!
    One question, there is a.... casing(?) On the berry. I can get it off, but I'd have to do it one at a time, unless there is secret i don't know. But it seems like you didn't do any fussy work like that. I just want to know if it's ok to leave it on, and I'm not finding any info on it.
    Thank you so much! It's lovely to be able to make home remedies! And this plant does smell amazing. We're in south Texas and we just discovered how well these trees do here. And they are so beautiful!

      Good evening Peppermint stitches and happy that you enjoyed the video. Sorry for the lateness in answering your question. Personally since it is geared more towards pms, menopause as well as fertility I wouldn't take it. So thankful that you found my channel due to the collaboration. ❤️ Take care and have a blessed day ahead.❤️🍀🦉

    Do you use them in the berry state? When the berries are juicy and purple? If so, what do you do and how do you use them?

    Thank you so much for posting this! So helpful and love learning about natural medicine! I have taken the Vitex pills before, but never the tincture. What dosage would you recommend for the tincture that you made in this video?

    Thanks so much for this very helpful video. I have a question. I live in Eugene, Oregon. I have a beautiful white blooming vitex tree. We had a frost and very cold temperatures before I was able to harvest my vitex berries. Now it's been raining so much that the berries are soaked. The leaves died from the frost. Can I still harvest the berries, if they look good and get them into my dehydrator? I guess the main question is, are the berries still gonna make good medicine?

    Thank you for your informative video.
    Did you use half of the 100 proof alcohol and half distilled water in the canning jar?

    • @OldWaysGardeningandPrepping
      @OldWaysGardeningandPrepping  Рік тому +1

      Good morning and happy that you enjoyed the video. No it was all 100 proof vodka. You never add water to a tincture cause it can loose shelf life and or become rancid. Take care and have a blessed day.❤️🍀🦉
      Blessings,
      Teresa

      @Old Ways Gardening and Prepping Thank you kindly for your reply. I appreciate the clarification because I thought I overheard you say in your video, that the best solution was half water and half alcohol so I must have misunderstood. Thanks again!👍🏻

    I noticed these were green berries. Do you prefer the green over the older gray ones??

    • @OldWaysGardeningandPrepping
      @OldWaysGardeningandPrepping  2 роки тому +1

      Good evening The Chicken Coop Homestead and happy that you enjoyed the video. Personally prefer the green ripe berries to make tinctures with. The only difference between the green berries and the gray ones is that they dried on the tree. Prefer to dry the green ones to avoid any bug damage. Take care and have a blessed evening.❤️🍀🦉

    Will the dehydrated ones from eBay work as well
    Also I am dehydrating goldenrod on lowest setting, please tell me I didn’t ruin them by dehydrating so I can make a tincture

    • @OldWaysGardeningandPrepping
      @OldWaysGardeningandPrepping  2 роки тому +1

      Good afternoon dear Pauletta and happy that you enjoyed the video. Yes if that is the way you have to get ahold of them. Also check out the website Mountain Rose Herbs they are very good also.
      Okay you didn't ruin your goldenrod but the dried is better used for making tea. If you have a chance to gather some more fresh it would be best for making the tincture.
      Hope to see you this evening in chat.❤️ Take care and have a blessed day.❤️🍀🦉
