Super Mario never had a full storyline in its games, never mind the RPG's. "Story" was never the point of Mario's games to begin with, but fun was. The Mario movie was FUN, just like the games; that's the important thing. Plus, who doesn't feel anything -when Luigi does his thing- near the end of the movie?
If you went into that movie looking for a heady plot that makes you think, look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a fun movie that really respects its source material and helps you forget how bad its predecessor was, Super Mario Bros is the movie for you. I left the theater with a smile on my face

Sometimes critics are way wrong when it comes to movies. Some of my favorite movies were hated or heavily criticized by critics, but that doesn’t mean audiences can’t find their own way to enjoy them.
One movie that me and general audiences really like but critics don’t is “A Dog’s Purpose”(and the sequel “A Dog’s Journey”). I don’t really understand their problems with the movies. IMO at least, I thought they were really emotional and told a really compelling story about relationships, personal growth, life, death, and especially the strong bonds owners have with their dogs. As a dog owner myself, I’d say it passed with flying colors. And the emotional moments hit even harder for my now since I just recently put my own dog down. They certainly aren’t flawless but I still absolutely love both movies and would watch them over “The Queen’s Corgi” any day.
@@lynnevetter while I did hear about the controversy of the film makers forcing the German shepherd into the water against its will, and while that is definitely a problem in the filming of a lot of animal movies that shouldn’t have happened in the first place, I was talking about the movie in practice. A lot of shows and movies have a lot of behind the scenes drama that can negatively affect overall opinion and while I still keep those moments in check as they shouldn’t have happened, I don’t let it effect my overall enjoyment of a property.
dude back in the 80's you could consider it the most hated film of the 80's in general, literally in 82 some critics called it one of the worst films of all time. The bias was real because it came out two weeks after E.T. The Extraterrestrial. Which I mean yeah that's on the studio for releasing it so close to the other Alien based movie, but still critics were not kind to it. Then it got a critical reassessment and man the change, it went from "worst films of all time" to "one of the best horror films ever made" if not one of the best films ever made in general.
All of John Capenter's directorial early works were hated on by the critics. ALL of them. People say the release window was badly timed, and it was, but even if it was released a year later it still would've been panned just not as hard. And the critics would still have been equally wrong for that panning.
There are two classic movies I can think of where the critics got wrong: Doctor Zhivago (1965) and Lady and the Tramp (1955). Both of those films were critical disappointments at the time of their original release but have been classic favorites ever since.
I would add the original Blade Runner, the critics didn't loved it in 1982, and now is considered one of the best of all time. PS: WTF were the critics thinking about The Big Lebowski?!?! I LOVE that movie!
2001: A Space Odyssey works so well with the slow pace. The pace builds up the fear and shock of slowly seeing how HAL becomes sentient. And it is one of those ones you can watch over and over and notice things and/ or make conclusions you didn't think of before.

i respect the hell out of that movie but after the first 30 minutes it becomes a little bit tedious since the story and character aren't the big deal. Its an awesome film to see it on pieces but not one to watch it in a 2 hour run.
Another movie to mention is Scarface (1983), that many critics hated it due it's violence and representation of the cubans, but now it's a classic film
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) takes the honor of being the most underrated comic book movie for me. 41% on RT. What?! But It does seem to keep getting better retrospectively and comparing it to a lot of current special effects-driven movies.
Glad Babylon got a mention; having seen the film for myself, it was nowhere near as chaotic and messy as I was expecting. The filmmaking was quite focused and deliberate. There was some sort of strange agenda against this film that I'll never understand.
Sidekicks is another under-rated movie. It's "not taking itself seriously" tone actually hides the comedy mixed in with martial arts, perfect for a family movie time.

13:09 that line is not only iconic but ... I was thinking ... 'so THAT'S what how James said "Heeeeeree's Jaaaaames: from seasons 19 to 23 of Thomas and Friends'
In fairness, there are countless great films that were ultimately ignored by audiences, and totally unremarkable films that were smash hits at the box office. Yet we don't consider those as moments where the fans were wrong about movies. The idea of evaluating opinions as right or wrong is ridiculous.
"The Thing" was a remake of a 1951 Sci-fi classic "The Thing from Another World" that gave James Arness his acting debut as the creature... Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" is the basis for the "slasher" movie genre that gave rise to the "Friday the 13th" and "Halloween" series films... "Man on Fire" was brilliant for Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning... KDM
There have been a lot of researchers, film critics, and even film students who have posited that The Big Lebowski is actually an allegory for the First Gulf War. All of them make extremely viable arguments, which makes it all the more enjoyable.
I would toss The Christmas Story in the mix as well. The adventures of Ralphie and his quest for Red Rider BB gun only gets more popular with each passing year.
I personally don’t take professional film critics 💯% seriously when it comes to their reviews of films. I _acknowledge_ their reviews and opinions, and I do take the time to read/listen to their talking points *if* there are certain aspects of a particular film I happen to agree with. But for the _most_ part, I just simply form my own individual personal opinions on films.
I'm with critics on Mario. I think it won't age well. Too thin a plot and much of the cast chosen for their celeb status than talent, except Jack Black. It's just an average illumination movie with better visuals.

Critics seldom understand Kubrick. He was a legendary artist far beyond many directors capabilities. The Shining is one of the most psychologically horrifying films ever
On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was not received well in 1969. Critics called it mediocre and blasted Lazenby’s performance. But today it’s considered by many the best Bond film and Lazenby’s performance is seen in a much better light.
Everyone has their own tastes, here's what critics are for: You find yourself someone with similar likes and dislikes, and when the recommend a movie, you check it out. It's like having a favorite TV chef, because they make the stuff you like. That's the point, they point you to the stuff YOU, LIKE. It's not about being objectively better than anything else, and if a critic shits all over a movie you like or a chef praises a recipe you hate, it doesn't affect you, or govern your life. Their opinion is their own, their tastes are their own, and it's for others to agree with or not. If you take the hierarchy out of it and just consider it a person with a possibly different but valid opinion or set of tastes, then these people are useful. Otherwise, you're wasting your time listening to them in the first place.
This is one of the best videos I've seen in a long time but wow what happened? I feel like we tripped over the whole story and fell into a pile of crap we can't get away from. All I can say is DAMN, that is one crazy thing. ❣️😬
I don’t really care what anybody else thinks about Mairo Brothers movie, I loved it. Everything about it just took me back to the happiest moments of my life, that were playing all the old Mairo games. How the movie featured just the right amount of original game sounds, and music samples was so good. Anyone who didn’t like it isn’t a true fan.
Peeping Tom also had a very harsh critical reception back when it was first released in 1960; to the point of pretty much nuking the career of filmmaker Michael Powell. Nowadays, however, the film is hailed as a horror classic and one of the predecessors of the slasher genre.
Ozzyman from Australia, went to see Super Mario Bros, and stated on his channel, that he loved the movie, and thought, along with millions that it was great.
0:34, Its weird how this film is only afew weeks old and the Critics still hate it for no reason. And based on afew clips I've seen about The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023), its not even that terrible at it. Its better than the Live-Action film 30 Years earlier.

I’m surprised blade runner 2049 didn’t make the list it was rated by critics as above average but audiences loved the movie some even (including myself) have called a master class of cinema that was robbed
Hard to believe that 2001: A Space Odyssey was not liked by the critics, since it is now well-established as the signature critic's favorite sci-fi movie! I believe it, though!
I didn’t even exist in the 80’s (I was born in 2002 lol) but I can’t believe “The Thing” is on here, that’s crazy. It’s pretty stupid to release it around the movie “ET” if you ask me, that’s their fault.
What I hear about films most days: tHiS mOvIe Is GoInG tO bOmB! dOn’T wAsTe YoUr MoNeY oN iT! Me: Just wants to watch the film bc it’s part of my interests
It’s that critics just don’t play video games that much or they haven’t even played one before. Hopefully, you should make a Top 10 Guilty Pleasure Video Game Movies the critics got it wrong.
I would have thought the good the bad and the ugly deserved to be on the list cause at the time spaghetti western films was looked down on by critics and for it violence and well as it story plots with the movie ending with the death of the villain as unlike the Hollywood western where the hero either is reunited with loved ones. But since then it is seen as one of the greats westerns every made and Clint eastwoods most famous film.
I never give an F what critics say. Hell, I don't care what popular opinions say - I find a lot of movies that get trashed I actually enjoyed. I'll decide if a movie is good (for me) or not. To hell with Critics.

11:58 THE nostalgia of the watchmojo videos from 2013 to 2018 when instead of the subscribe before number 1 ..
We have the honorable mentions and then number 1 after ❤❤❤❤ absolutely nostalgia in my opinion 😍😍😍😍😍
13:09 that line is not only iconic but ... I was thinking ... 'so THAT'S what how James said "Heeeeeree's Jaaaaames: from seasons 19 to 23 of Thomas and Friends'
Top 10 times critics’ check didn’t go through
In fairness, there are countless great films that were ultimately ignored by audiences, and totally unremarkable films that were smash hits at the box office. Yet we don't consider those as moments where the fans were wrong about movies. The idea of evaluating opinions as right or wrong is ridiculous.
Super Mario Bros.. When has a film based on a game is not essentially a 90 minute commercial.
All of them make extremely viable arguments, which makes it all the more enjoyable.

the mario movie was the best animated movie in a long time
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio would like a word.
This makes no sense. How can someone be wrong about something thats subjective? Make it make sense?
I would toss The Christmas Story in the mix as well. The adventures of Ralphie and his quest for Red Rider BB gun only gets more popular with each passing year.
I personally don’t take professional film critics 💯% seriously when it comes to their reviews of films. I _acknowledge_ their reviews and opinions, and I do take the time to read/listen to their talking points *if* there are certain aspects of a particular film I happen to agree with. But for the _most_ part, I just simply form my own individual personal opinions on films.
They're never "wrong", it's all just opinions 💀
I'm with critics on Mario. I think it won't age well. Too thin a plot and much of the cast chosen for their celeb status than talent, except Jack Black. It's just an average illumination movie with better visuals.
Feel like 'I Am Sam' should've been here. 36% on RT and only 28 on metacritic, but audiences loved it
"HERE'S JOHNNY!" AT #1... PLEASE DO THE TOP 20 MOVIES THE CRITICS WERE WRONG SUCH AS THE ORIGINAL "TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES" FILM, "GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS" & THE LATE RUTGER HAUER'S MODERN WESTERN CULT CLASSIC REMAKE FILM OF "ZATOICHI" CALLED "BLIND FURY" THAT GOT POOR REVIEWS BY CRITICS BUT LOVED BY THE AUDIENCES DESPITE OF BAD ROTTEN TOMATOES SCORES ESPECIALLY "FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S", R.I.P. RUTGER HAUER. 😎🎬🎥😇🙏
I'm Glad they Included Venom in it, saying the audience did it rather decent.
Please do Top 10 movies that fans got it wrong from critics.
THE CRITICS WERE DEFINITELY WRONG ABOUT THE SUPER MARIO BROS MOVIE!
Very few on that list I haven't watched repeatedly! AMAZED and thrilled to see Rocky Horror on there- as I was one of those teens/young adults dressed as Columbia every Saturday night at the Matinee in the late 70's early 80's!
My kids still tell their friends and proudly show them photo's 'Yeah- THAT'S my MOM!""
Last Action Hero was savaged by critics. Its meta humor was ahead of its time.
Critics seldom understand Kubrick. He was a legendary artist far beyond many directors capabilities. The Shining is one of the most psychologically horrifying films ever
This list should be more like 10,000,000 times
This has been a neverending debate that’s been going on since the 1920s.
I absolutely love Rocky Horror Picture Show. Tim Curry is legendary
They got 15 editors thanks them for posting so many times a day
Speed Racer should definitely have been on this list.
I'd definitely add Clue to the list.
Nowadays, however, the film is hailed as a horror classic and one of the predecessors of the slasher genre.
uhhhh...
Citizen Kane.
Duck Soup.
Vertigo.
Friday the 13th series. 💀👍
All of these were panned as HELL when they first came out.

And this is why i learned to never listen to critics nor trust in them.
Whether they are either right or wrong at many things,
In the end, it won't even matter anymore.
Everyone will always have something to like, love and appreciate in their lives.
Everyone has their own opinions on things and we must learn to understand them and respect them.
I’m surprised blade runner 2049 didn’t make the list it was rated by critics as above average but audiences loved the movie some even (including myself) have called a master class of cinema that was robbed
The original Blade Runner too wasn't loved by critics.
Wasn't it acclaimed by critics?
@@ThePrinceofHisOwnKingdom
Yes, 'Blade Runner 2049' has 88% on Rotten Tomatoes as well as a 81/100 on Metacritic.
Hard to believe that 2001: A Space Odyssey was not liked by the critics, since it is now well-established as the signature critic's favorite sci-fi movie! I believe it, though!
I was once not a fan of Chris Pratt as Mario. And I am gladly gonna admit I'm glad I was wrong because I would have missed a quite amazing movie.
Yeah, his voice-over sounds worse in the trailers than the actual movie.
@@melodramatic7904 it was. Still, I'm glad to eat crow about my reservations about his casting.
Venom was absolutely garbage. The critics were right about that one.
It’s that critics just don’t play video games that much or they haven’t even played one before. Hopefully, you should make a Top 10 Guilty Pleasure Video Game Movies the critics got it wrong.
@@OnePieceGuy55 you must be watching too much Family Guy.
THE CRITICS ARE ALWAYS WRONG!
Yes love Mario and joker
Top ten video games that fans love, that critics hate.
The Wiz was also dismissed by critics as well, and is now deemed a classic... ( :
Raiders of The Lost Ark. All the critics ripped it apart, until it broke the box office, and then they back tracked.
It’s A Wonderful Life is a boring Christmas movie.
I never give an F what critics say. Hell, I don't care what popular opinions say - I find a lot of movies that get trashed I actually enjoyed. I'll decide if a movie is good (for me) or not. To hell with Critics.
