You should come down to Central FL sometime, Ill show you some clear shallow water fishing that no one else apparently even tries that will make you want to pack up and move. Just have to kayak to get to it.

I watch guys like Jonny and I think I'm really screwing up by staying close to the bank. What you talked about easily describes a little stumpy, muddy lake I fish that I know of some monsters that have been caught there.

Here in Minnesota, with water visibility over 5ft on most lakes I fish, lots of the offshore contours being very bowl shaped, very little wood cover, and heavy (and often deep) grass, usually the dock fishing or outside grass lines seem to be the ticket. Everyone always equates these lakes with smallmouth, but truth be told, the largemouth are just as prevalent. I would love to see some videos or seminars dedicated to your expertise on these types of waters. Your insight is so appreciated, and I watch your videos and tips religiously every week. Thank you for doing this for us weekend warriors!
Second this. I struggle fishing jigs along deep weed lines, as they often go out to 10 -15 feet. Usually I end up fishing a soft plastic or spinnerbait, sometimes a finesse swimbait. I know I ought to throw cranks or jigs, but the former techniques work so well. Show us a reason to switch it up!

Randy I bet you learned old school jig fishing from Basil Bacon. Basil was the first person to design a “flippin’” button on a baitcasting reel. In addition to the “flippin’” button, Bacon was also a pioneer in developing the raised “flippin’” deck that is now incorporated on bass boats. Bacon was also the gentleman who invented the four-bladed prop that is so often used to achieve maximum performance on today’s modern bass boats. I know he as also a lure designer, A Spinnerbait to name just one.
This advice is so good , it’s so true too for me , I struggle catching bass on a jig in clear clear water here , I love em after a rain run off during summer months cause the water gets a lil dirty , thanks mr Randy
There's one "key" (I hate that term 🙄) that I feel you failed to mention, and that is STABLE WATER LEVEL. You'll get your butt kicked pitching shallow flats if the water level is receding. If it has been stable for 3+ days.....then Game-On. But as soon as it starts falling out you'd better go find another pattern. 👍
Sierra Nevada foothill reservoirs fall a foot per week; faster as the surface area shrinks. Most areas accessible to me as a bank angler are steep hillsides, and the water is loaded with rocks and submerged trees. What do you suggest?
@@ricksonora6656 Texas rigged 4 or 5 inch worm. Sometimes jigged or sometimes nearly dead-sticked. Sometimes a light darter head jig with a short worm bumped thru the boulders will fool a big spotted bass.
i tried them but i lise them withn 5 min and only caught a few on them .niw i have nught fished in the summer i. 22ft depth and used a yelliw crappie jig.prob caught 40 bass in 2 hrs just poppin it off the bottom with 6 ft med im6 rod.
I've never tried to catch a bass on a jig, but I feel like I could catch them now if I try. I kinda want to try bass jigs in the saltwater. Seems like they'd catch redfish or flounder or snook, maybe a cobia. They look good for fishin' around mangroves.

Randy, can you switch to the wire weed guards like on the old school Hildebrandt snagless sally's? Those are the most snag resistant weed guards I've seen when it comes to wood. A-Mart had Picasso switch over to it and they've been killer!
So I bought quite a few (12-16) of your jigs in assorted colors, I use to fish the AlRon jig, or the Lunkerv lure jig which has the same head and rubber, I’ll give you kudos your painted head on your jig head doesn’t chip off paint, a Featuring I really like, I also like the live rubber, and I’m a quarter ounce fan and they’re really hard to find in quarter ounce, black with chartreuse our one of my favorite colors, I have one problem, I fish Truman NOT Stockton, bull shoals or table rock, if your fish in heavy dead cover; branches, logs, etc. the jig turns and snags constantly, I lost quite a few fish on your jig, I came to the conclusion because the brush guard is so short the jig turns on the log which sticks in a log and dulls the point, you don’t realize it when you’re fishing, until you lose fish. Your brush guards are too short. Wood dulls the point. Buyers beware, I reall hope you lengthen the weed guard, right now I have a lot of good looking jigs I don’t Trust, and their $10 bucks a piece 😢
Can you please cover what to fish when the visibility is over 15 to 20 ft. My home lake is clear year around, the least visibility I have seen is 12". I am in So. California at a manmade reservoir at about 3,000 feet elevation. Thanks
Confidence and bass population, if you think there’s a good amount of better than average fish then a jig is a good choice as it tends to get bigger bites….if you want more bites or the lake tends to fish smaller or you just are struggling a soft plastic is a good play as it tends to get more bites
Both have an important factor. Jig profile has a lot to do with the number of bites you will get and the size of fish while the fall rate has a lot to do with generating strikes. Depends on the personality of the fish. Generally I like a bigger faster falling jig if I can get away with it
Fresh mud is not good, especially from wind and boat waves unless the water was very clear before. Try and find banks protected from this or use a big bright squarebill Crankbait

So what about in grass like the Potomac were it’s super thick and not many places were it’s bare or rocking? Do I just force it and drag a 1/2oz through the grass or what?
I’ve caught them there good in the past flipping a 5/8th oz Blk/blue with a blue chunk in lower tide conditions around matter clumps of milfoil. Look for holes above as big around as your fist
Electronics are getting better every year and I think that when they get to a certain point, bass fishing will gone as we see it. Maybe not next year but down the road.

That was my spring setup in the day with Uncle Josh rind. Never fished it after April. Muddy water was great in early spring.

I haven’t had that experience. Rarely lose a fish on them and I fished alron jigs for years
