Thinking about your Mom on this Mother’s Day too Johnny we all appreciate you ❤️
Aww thank you!
Really cool change of pace, wouldn't mind seeing more like this one with you out & about
I was about to type the same thing
We need an anniversary video of Johnny visiting the basement he first saw Phantasy Star in 😂
Thanks for having us on the show, it's always great doing these vids with you! :D
You guys have a cool store dude
great stuff man!!
That store looks awesome!
Will have to visit from Ireland. Only been to Canada once and went to the Silver Snail in Toronto. Great store my man.
We need a johnny & rob man game store & arcade road trip series
yes!
I second that motion
Yes please!
Oh man that’d actually be awesome
Also agree that,if it were possible for you guys to do, that would be a fun, and awesome set of shows to see.
I did NOT want this video to end!! Please do a sequel. What a store!!!
Idk why but you not sitting down in the beginning caught me off guard lol
He has legs!? 😳
Same!
I love this because it feels like something you'd make 10 years ago. Do you remember when you gave out Hanzo posters to everyone who knew the password "All Gen Gamers" ? Good times!!
I could have seen TWO HOURS of this, SO GOOD!
yeah same! I wanted to see some other stuff in the background up close. Was Happy Console Gamer in a hurry to get back to his dark man cave?
100%. Super fun.
Johnny, you always seem to have such genuinely great, and kind-hearted people around you. Loved this episode.
What a refreshing episode getting out for a change is nice
really nice to see you out and about with friends!
That crazy weird Mega Man.... I've been seeing that thing for years every time i visit Press Start and always wondered about it.
Dude I would love to see you do more videos like this! I enjoy all your stuff but just fun to see you out and about ❤
I keep forgetting Johnny lives in the real world and not just a void with his wife and a table.
There was also a VHS for Majora's Mask. I only know because it's about five feet away from me right now.
I went to Press Start yesterday to buy some Sega games and poke around. I’ve been an HCG fan forever, but somehow hadn’t seen this video yet. As I was rooting through their amazing collection and having the most knowledgeable, unique and sweet conversation with Russel…
JOHNNY walks in. I was absolutely floored by the genuine and heartfelt conversations I was privileged to have with these two. Not only did I leave with some banger games, I was in possession of goosebumps, borderline-tears and a positive memory that will forever be burned in my brain. Bless these two
Nice meeting you too! :D
That Air Zonk Mega Man is certainly eye catching. Cool backstory!
Love those Nintendo VHS promo tapes. I have one for Banjo Kazooie, and another for a game called Wild 9 on the PS1. Great video!
I love when you do this episodes outside of the room, last time Kim had to carry the camera, it was a great episode, 😂
You got the VHS Tapes with a Nintendo Power subscription. I know because that’s how I received the Donkey Kong Country before the game was released on SNES in the NA Region. It came randomly one day in the mail.
Same, I believe they were mailed out to NP subscribers. I’ve got one for Banjo-Kazooie as well.
Yeah, I remember getting a couple of them back in the N64 era.
@@RPGreg2600 I got the Donkey Kong VHS in the UK too, not sure how but I'm thinking they were actually attached to the magazine itself maybe.
@@markrung8051 could be, or they just mailed them out to subscribers, can't remember! Nintendo power had all kinds of cool perks like that
@@markrung8051 They came with certain subscriptions but they did scan the place you live in too, it was a limited number and they targeted only wealthy locations or locations where enough number of people subscribed. The main target were wealthy suburbs otherwise you got nothing or had to spam them to get any promo stuff and was limited.
Sony did this too I ordered up to 10 copies of anything promo they send for me and friends and when they realized most of us never bought anything they stopped sending mails and I never renewed anyway since around that time I moved a lot and at one point lived in a village and getting there such mail there was a pain so I gave up. The stores were full of Sony stuff anyway so I never really needed to be mailed anything.
There were raffles too and some of my friends got PS1 and GBC games, and one time a friend got a full GBC console bundle pack. That one friend and his brother got multiple times lots of stuff but I never got anything even tho I was the one who pursued stuff for them on their behalf and introduced them to the mailing deals. As a thank you they gave me few PS1 games later on tho.
Just for context wise I am from Europe (Serbia) but know a lot about other parts of the world too.
I have a small replica of Erdrick's Sword that's plastic, but man that huge version of it is so cool. Great video Johnny!
I still have my original Donkey Kong Country VHS tape. Nintendo sent it to us in the mail as a promotional item to promote the game when it first came out. I was pretty young at the time, but I seem to remember them being sent to registered owners of SNES consoles, as I don't remember my parents ever having to mail anything in or pay for it, and it was before we had a Nintendo Power subscription.
Awesome store man!!! I want to see a revolution of new mom and pop media shops...vinyl, games, movies, books etc
Today was the one year anniversary of my mom's passing, with you in spirit Johnny, stay strong buddy.
I'd love to see more episodes like this. The games room episodes are awesome as always but it was really cool getting to see the shop you talk about all the time. This was definitely one of my favorite episodes on your channel and I've been watching for years.
Love the video Johnny. Russell seems like a cool guy. A business man with an actual passion for what he's selling is a rare thing.

I love that Binding of Isaac plush! I've been playing that a lot lately on Switch.
THIS THE KIND OF VARIETY CONTENT WE NEED 💜
I'd honestly be really down for more of these sorts of episodes. They're just so relaxed and chill
You had me at Megaman and Video game merch
More out and about please. Enjoyed this
Wow, the VHS tapes hit me with nostalgia, Nintendo Power sent me the DK Country and StarFox 64 tapes, StarFox 64 particularly I watched every day till the game came out. 🤩
What a cool episode, damn. Russell is a great dude, charismatic. He could fill in for some episodes I'm sure.
Love seeing you get your friends involved in the videos. Russell is awesome.
I absolutely LOVE shops like this, unfortunately they are hard to find these days especially where I live in Boise Idaho. Thanks Johnny I hope you and the family are doing well, and happy mothers day to Kim!💗
Great video - would love to see more like this with press start games!
I had the Starfox 64 VHS tape before the game was released, and I watched it a million times.
Great episode! Love this type of occasional out of the norm content!
Hey Johnny, I just want to say thank you for being a great source for comfort, laughs, insight and positive thoughts. I’ve been watching you for over a decade and it never fails to impress me how much you have remained so positive, upbeat, humorous and incredibly emotionally mature week and after week. The shows with Rob (terribly funny human who I’d love to see on the big screen - great actor/story teller), Andy (a gateway into your
childhood - your bond and connection over games and loyalty to each other is really dope to witness - Andy needs his own show too), Kim (an ever seemingly shinning light of joy and happiness - you two are set) and the community that you include whenever you get the chance is f**king dope ❤
A few years ago I was in a very crappy situation in life, your videos as well as some really good friends and family really helped me, Johnny. They helped me to breathe a bit of cheer just before I tried switching off at night and allowed my brain to be distracted by laughter, reviews, first thoughts, pickups, what you’ve been playing, guest appearances, artwork, game scores etc etc
Anyway, I’m in an incredible situation in life and currently on holiday in Thailand with my partner and our 5mo little baby girl 🥰 not sleeping, but only cuz as you know it’s absolutely knackering being a father.
Massive condolences for your mum ❤ I lost my dad several years ago and like your mom he was a bloody good human. A friend of mine after he died said something that has stayed with me since. “You’ll never stop feeling the way you feel, but you’ll learn how to manage the pain/grief”.
All the best,
Glenn
Amazing episode! That Matroid Prime standee in the background looks so amazing!
This reminds me of old HCG episodes. Love it!
Man I can remember getting those Nintendo VHS tapes in the mail. The N64 and Banjo Kazooie tapes are my personal favourites.
I used to have that Donkey Kong VHS. It was cool they talked about how they made all the characters models and talked about the technology behind the game.
This has an old school Johnny vibe to it, like when you went to visit your old neighborhood AGES ago, and the little driving montage reminds me of the HCG movie. Really fun video!!
I loved this video man, the store owner seems like a cool knowledgeable guy! The type you want in a store like that
I def had that Starfox VHS. It may still be at my Parent’s house.
Russell is awesome dude. visited the store a few times. very friendly. bought a few gems and they are fairly priced. found his store favouring more compared to gamedeals
That stuffed Issac at the first 20 seconds was cool! I’d love that!
That mega man figure where you can see the inside of him is fire dude
I would 100% watch commercials if they were like that Nintendo promo
Super cool video! Definitely one that is out of the ordinary and welcomed for sure the dragon quest sword was sick. Hope you are doing well Johnny.
You’re the best, Johnny! Thanks for sharing this.
this video was so much fun, it's like we got to go on a little adventure together. would love to see more stuff like this!
I had that Star Fox 64 promo VHS... I used to watch it religiously back in the day! BTW I used lot love the Shadowhawk comic book, I would love to play that rare game!!!
The VHS tapes were definitely Nintendo Power promo items - was subscribed to NP at the time and remember the Star Fox, DK64/Jet Force Gemini, and a Diddy Kong Racing one
After watching, this I had to stop by today on my trip to Vancouver and... Buy that Nintendo Power with Secret of Mana on the cover. Thanks Johnny!
Thanks for coming :D!
Looooved this episode so much!!
Love and have followed this show since covid times and working from home, keep up the content mate! Liverpool, UK
Love the videos of you going on adventures. They're always such an unexpected treat
Awesome episode! It's definitely different and I appreciate mixing it up a little bit! Bless you and your family during this Mother's Day. I know you're probably spending a lot of time with the wonderful, little, family you've cultivated. Thanks, Johnny 🙏❤️.
Id love to see more out and about videos on your channel. Though I will always love the sit down behind the table approach...
YO! Happy Console Gamer "on the road" Episode AWESOME!! :D love that you are still as passionate about your UA-cam channel as day 1 thank you for all the episodes of Happy Console Gamer over the years.
The vibes are just so good. You make the world a better place, HCG.
Loved this video!!! I would enjoy seeing more adventures out to other local shops!
I used to have the Super Metroid Promo VHS & Donkey Kong Country one too. The Super Metroid one was really cool, but got damaged in a move so no longer was able to play it.
Love seeing more Vancouver in your videos, we always so often hear your stories of the places in Vancouver but been awhile since we’ve seen any of it on cam! Exciting change of pace.
What a great episode, John. Rock on brother✊ The world needs more Happy Console Gamer!
That Star Fox 64 VHS skit is incredible. It's so 90s it's more 90s than the 90s. I want one!
God I miss game shops like that. We had one here about 15 years ago and every friday I would go there to look at and buy new games. This was way before they had digital download games. I really want our game shop back.
Good job with the camera angles and special effects! It must have been a lot of work compared to your stationary camera. Big thanks to your secret camera person!
You should buy this Megaman for Rob for the Christmas Special ❤️
It´s a warp phone to the warp zone! :D
Loved having a look at all those sweet, obscure, unusual and cool items.
Awesome and interesting video, something fun in these somewhat dark times in gaming.
This is a great episode. He does have a unique collection, so many things to look at and be amazed by.
That was fun to watch.
Oh dude press start video games in new west! Sucha great store! Hope I can meet ya there sometime Johnny👍
Hey Johnny, I want to thank you so much for this Episoooooode. It reminds me a lot of some of your older episodes and it makes me really happy. Good job💪👍 Anways.... until next time🫶
Love seeing you out in the wild surrounded by all that cool stuff!
Dude! Those were some dope pieces that you highlighted, Mr. Millennium. I really liked everything. I really liked how you got-up-and-went. Nice change. Outside of the items I saw, l really dug the Link Between Worlds mini standee. The Mega Man figures are wicked. The detail of the endoskeleton and the wiring are amazing. And may Yuna perform the Sending for your mom and rest in peace in the Farplane.
The coolest thing I’ve ever found in a small/ local video game store is a dark cloud statue of toan from a Japan event in 2001. I’d been looking for anything dark cloud related for many years at that point, they wanted 50 bucks for it and I bought it immediately. Never seen another one in anyone’s collection or for sale since.
Very cool video. I like seeing you on the move Johnny! More Field Trips please.
Mario with his head in a vice is bonkers.
More episode like this plz! So good. Thanks you Johnny
Johnny's Journey's ... Nice to see out and about, some unique stuff
I had a copy of that Star Fox 64 VHS back in the day, it was a riot
Please do more video's like this. Great video Johnny!
This video was so fun, interesting, and nostalgia inducing. Amazing job. Thank you!
That was so much fun for me to see!! Like Sunday coffee and Christmas thanks for sharing Johnny!! Makes me miss our childhood gaming era!!
Ah, yeah, the Resident Evil 5 globe. We got those when I was running a Gamecrazy back in the day.
I love the Warzard/Red Earth poster
I remember seeing the Donkey Kong Country tape and there was a sneak peak at Killer Instinct at the end. I haven't seen the other tapes.
You know, I never really thought about promo tapes and how often they were used by Nintendo in their marketing. I think I still have my Banjo-Kazooie promo tape, narrated by Jon Lovitz, kicking around somewhere. Uploads of it on UA-cam exist if anyone wants to watch it.
Dang some of this stuff belongs in a museum or something. Really cool to see. Great video.
lol I remember that starfox tape. It blew my mind cuz it was the 1st time the show a legend of zelda game in 3D! We got so hyped!
Really cool episode! If I had a local game store as cool as that I'd lose an entire day looking around it and an entire paycheck before walking out!
Please do another episode like this sometime, 100% could be an annual thing.
Johnny man whatever fountain of youth you have kicking around share the wealth, been watching since the beginning, my kiddo grew up with your channel on as background sounds, and God man you still look so young! Awesome video too! I dig the getting out of the game room idea
We're all happy to see both of you! Happy mother's Day guys and thanks for the awesome video
It's bright and scary but we're playing Ice Ridge of Noltia to balance that! 😉
I really enjoyed this episode. It reminded me of a video game store in my hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama that my friend owned called The Monitor. Unfortunately he had to close it down in 2017.
2:15 Can't go wrong with the Sonic Adventure music coming right after the Mario music.
