We have done Kim’s and Robs top 10 games of all time. I’d love to see a video of Andrew’s top 10
Yes!!!!!!
Yes!!!
We need this!
Absolutely
His *friend* Andrew.
There is something therapeutic about the sound effects in these old games. These sound effects alone can make you feel good.
Chiptunes are soothing
insert "PS1 bootup sound" 🎶🎵
For me the donkey kong country 2 OST can damn near bring me to tears, like stickerbush symphony or Forest Interlude.
Stickerbrush Symphony is magical @@VEN0M415
It's always great to see Andrew!
Streets of Rage 2- It's the gameplay and the music. Hard to beat
My comfort games will always be Sonic 1 and 2. Fond memories of playing these with a friend on the same street I grew up on.
I have fond memories playing those with the neighborhood kids in my time too, good sunny days
Sonic 2 I can finish using muscular memory, 30 years after I first played
I’m with you on this
Metal Gear Solid, i go back and play through the whole thing every few years - the intro music and cut scene gives me chills!
Best game ever made
So true for me too. And when you enter to the place of the metal gear rex and hear the music.. Zoommm.. so nostalgic for me
"Metal Gear!?" @@snake25pt1
Me too my brotha
Yeah, I've lost count of how many times I've beaten MGS1 over the years.
Games are not just games, they are memory creators, you can go back in time, to a point in your life like it was yesterday, game have so much nostalgia, second best thing to a time machine.
Super Ghouls n Ghosts SNES. I never get tired of that game. It's a classic
A great classic.
I like how they did the GnG collection on PSP on the Capcom compilation which I still have digitally.. I’m still kicking myself for trading the GBA version of Super GnG
This was the first game I ever saw running on the SNES. I was blown away by the graphics and music. One of my top faves.
Computer: Doom I & II and Heretic. Console: Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 8.
For me the first Jak and Daxter. I can 100% the game in a day. I have played it so much that i can walk through every level when I close my eyes. Great memories playing that game
Mario 64 is the one for me. I still play it to this day and I can just listen to the OST any time and it just puts a smile on my face and dire dire docks music brings a tear to my eye.
I am so with you on that game and that level. When you go into the cave at the back of the level and the percussion kicks in. Awesome
Oh damn, I might have to go play this now you've said it. Such a masterpiece that completely blew me away on release.
Oh yes this is one for me too. And Tony hawks pro skater 1, as well as star wars shadows of the empire.
Xenogears for me. The characters, atmosphere and music just strike a massively nostalgic chord with me that I don't think any another game has since.
Outstanding jrpg
OMG the Soundtrack for Xenogears is hypnotizing!!!
Xenogears was amazing bro
Ghouls'N Ghosts, The Revenge of Shinobi, Golden Axe, Forgotten Worlds, Phantasy Star II and Streets of Rage on the Genesis are my comfort games I always go back to.
Crazy Taxi, Resident Evil 2, Donkey Kong Country... So many games, so many special moments
Which crazy taxi is best
@@glittlehoss always will be the first for me!!
What I like about you Johnny is your attention to detail. You love the sound as much as you like the gameplay and graphics to these old games. When I was young I was often drawn to how a game sounded just as much as it looked, and I always wanted that sound on my home console, which wouldn't come until much later when the home hardware would catch up with the arcade
I’m an RPG fan first and foremost, and most of my favorite games are RPGs, but the funny thing is the game I find myself coming back to years later is Halo 2. I typically don’t replay games, but I can’t get enough of that game. I do campaign co-op with friends, because I love the Halo 2 campaign, and The Master Chief Collection remake of it is amazing. There’s so many ways to tackle each mission, the areas are so open, you have so much freedom. The gun play is immaculate. And playing on legendary is such a challenge especially if you have skulls enabled for extra challenge. It’s such a fun relaxing experience to go through with friends and I usually go back once a year with someone and do a campaign run. Each time I try to discover new nooks and crannies in the environments and experiment in how to approach different areas.
RPGs is my favorite genre, so i dont really replay games because i try to get to the endgame and defeat any superbosses, so i get my feel.
However there are some games (old platformers, FPS shooters, fighting game) that i have replayed from time to time(they are few), because they are fast and are short.
You play halo 2 légendary to chill ? 😅
Watching Andrews's face in disbelief(almost breaking into laughter like an SNL Alum) as you explain your Wonder Boy "tick" is priceless. His expression as you say you've played probably 40 times this year is funny.
Andrew is the best!
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Played through once a year since 1992.
Honestly I don't blame you. Whenever I think of a "classic game" my mind always goes to zelda alttp
Hell yeah, been playing through zelda 2 every christmas since 1997. Its become a tradition for some reason and it always hits the spot
Have you played Zelda:Links awakening, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages? These are the most close to aLink to the Past. From these Links Awakening is the better one.
@@GeoGyf I thought 'A link between worlds' is the closest to alttp
@@philbarton2832 A link between worlds is a remake/reimagination of Link's Awakening.
You mentioned my biggest one I go back to over and over again..And that is Final Fantasy 3/6. Something about that game always brings me back, and gives me joy and comfort.
Mike Tyson's Punchout, Mega Man 2, Zelda 2 and Zelda OOT I play at least once a year.
I've been watching your channel for a few years now, I thoroughly enjoy it. I grew up with video games from around the same era & i have a lot of nostalgia for the golden era of gaming. I especially enjoy your stories when your reminiscing about your past experiences with your friends when your favourite games came out. Watching your new episodes every Sunday has become a weekly ritual & something I look forward to, keep it up! 👍
Resident Evil 4 for me. Both the original and the remake, there is something about the game that just gets me in the zone and I keep coming back for it
Me too, it's such a comfort to pick that game up and start a new game after a long stretch of not playing it
Yeah man, it has such excellent pacing. Shout out to mercenaries mode too, I have fond memories of me and a couple buddy's passing the controller each time to see if we could beat each others scores
SSX 3 for me. That is the perfect comfort game for me. Love putting on a full vinyl record front to back and just exploring the maps.
Great video guys. Fun to hear what games you revisit. Thanks.
Been a fan for over 10 years now. So glad you got to see your friend that I know you don't see often
Hades is my comfort game.. I know it's not an old game but I play it almost every day
Same, ever since I picked it up on Switch. By far my most played game on the system, 1000 hours or so at this point. ❤
I don't think there are many games that are completely perfect but, for me, Hades is one of them. I seriously can't think of a single thing about it that I dislike or I'd change.
I'll have to try this game.
Great video as always! For me, I have a yearly tradition to get all 120 stars in Mario 64. It was my first video game and it just never gets old. Always excited to jump back into it.
I will always love to replay the original RE2 and RE3 on the ps1, and the original Devil May Cry 1 and 3. AT least once a year.
Always love to see Andrew on the show. Love your guys' stories!
Johnny, I feel the same way about Wonder Boy! the way that i felt when i first played it 37 years ago! Whenever i play it, it brings back the great memories i had with this game! and your right! sometimes you try to experience the feeling you had on that experience and it is like a drug!
The power of nostalgia! I have a go at the first Golden Sun for the GameBoy Advance at least once every year. Might not always complete it, but I know that game so well, that is almost like coming home.
Always good to see Andrew
And I love it how you keep you're nostalgized pictures all together and ready to show us all
Thanks for the cozy and wholesome videos, Johnny! My comfort games I return to at least once a month are DKC1 and Yoshi's Island on the SNES, they just draw me for some reason. They feel super nostalgic, especially when I listen to the OSTs I immediately get images from my childhood, even though I played them for the first time when I was 28.
Hey thanks for the shoutout at 8:58! Yes absolutely blown away by this game. I was just listening to the soundtrack last week actually while getting some writing done!
Absolutely LOVE this video. Good job guys!
Always love seeing an old photo John's never shown before. I hope to one day have an entire episode dedicated to old pictures
Andrew seems like the chillest guy to just game and hang out with. Always love when you have him on! Great episode as always
Hi Johnny, first off...LOVE your channel! For me, there are a bunch of "comfort food games", but I am 55 this year(wow), but in my early 20's for the first time, me and my Dad actually had something in common - playing RPG's. It was for sure Phantasy Star II for the Genesis and Final Fantasy II for the SNES. I still get goosebumps when I watch the intro of either of those games.
I've never watched any videos from you guys. This was really fun though. Great memories
Super mario world gets fired up once a year at least. Takes me back to being 6 years old when I could only play around a friends house. They always had the latest consoles, so they saw a LOT of me.
The sound track to that game man. Will never get old for me
I have several older games that I keep picking up but this year I'm trying to break those habits. My backlog has gotten so out of control that I'm trying to exert some self-control to... play new games over revisiting favorites 😂 btw, saw a lot of these coming cuz of how much you talked about them over the years!
Goonies 2 is a game I play too much and never get tired of it.
What strikes me is that the sound+image combination plays a big role in reminiscence in relation to strong emotion adding to that most probably the setting/circumstances in wich we first experience it.
Tales of Symphonia is the game I can't help but replay at least once a year. I've beaten it over 40 times across all platforms. Strong nostalgia and great story/characters/gameplay/music keep me coming back, like an old friend
I cherish Dixie Kong and Diddy Kong (Donkey Kong Country 3) so much, and I keep going back to it and also Street Fighter 2. But one game I will never forget, and thank god, some good soul did a remake of this Macintosh Game for Windows, its called "BOOM", aka Bomberman meets Doom. And this is the first game where my brother finally said yes in trying to play a game co-op for the first time, and I was so chuffed my older brother agreed to it, despite him having grown such a distance to video games at that time. Of course now he is so much more open and willing with video games, with having kids himself now, and we are both talking so much more about all our retro fun and new remakes of entertainment and games coming out! Much love and appreciation, yours Joe
Awesome memories! It's great to see Andrew back on the show! It's Golden Axe on the Megadrive for me!
My most game that I play every year, sometimes every week or every month is METAL GEAR SOLID 2
I just grew up with MGS1 but MGS2 has captured my childhood in a way that I cannot put into words.
The rain during the tanker incident in MGS2 is just breathtaking.
I can go on and on about MGS2 and its crazy plot and the amazing atmosphere.
Truly my favorite game of all time.
mmmm yeah
For me it is definitely Streets of Rage 2, Contra 3, and Symphony of the Night.
Black Belt and Great Baseball on the SMS always bring back the feels. Amazing soundtrack and frenetic gameplay. Lots of memories.
Love seeing Andrew on the show! We definitely need a video of Andrew's top 10 games!
I love this channel. While other channels are melting down over X Box, Playstation ,and the console wars; you guys are just still enjoying and talking about games. That's the way it should be.
Link to the past is such an important game. I have such great memories of my father and I playing this together.
Great games highlighted here! 🎉🎉 Just the music from FF6 made me want to drop everything and play it right now! Great video!
Awesome choices. (And there is just something so satisfying about characters who can "double jump," whether it's Maria in Rondo of Blood, Zero in Megaman X4, or the very first time I ever came across it in Super Ghouls & Ghosts.) 😎
I've been doing playthroughs of Super Mario 2 (North American) and Thunderforce 3 for the Genesis at least once a year. The nostalgic feels! Fun video!
SSX Tricky for sure ... probably my favorite pick up and play game
My 'comfort zone' games when I was younger were Pokémon sapphire & Locoroco - Loved them both!
Out of all the games i own, i'll always seem to gravitate back to playing both Zelda: a link to the past and Super Metroid.
I loved the original games, but lately i've been playing a lot of Randomizers for these games, and even the SMZ3 rom hacks.
Especially when you speedrun these games. I started speed running them too after how impressed i was at how much faster these games can be played.
Even now, every time i play an SMZ3 randomizer, it still amazes me. 2 Game worlds connected together, and you're trying to figure out what path to take, and where to locate an item in order to progress and complete either game then the other. Each seed is never the same, so it's different every time you generate a rom.
So much fun!!
The end theme to Shadowgate is my ringtone and one of my favorite video game tracks ever.
I just bought FFX again for the third time. I get an urge to play blitzball every few years. I miss the glory years of FF. I never cared much for any after they stopped being turn-based.
I feel the same way. I lost interest when final fantasy stopped being turn based.
I love blitzball to likely an unhealthy level haha. I’ve built a team up to max level a couple times over the years.
y’all are really missing out on some awesome games. action rpg combat is infinitely better than turn based combat in my opinion. I no longer have the patience for the classic turn based combat, however, I will deal with it if necessary like DQ11 or any of the Legend of Heroes games.
I'm really not missing anything. I give all the new games a chance, but they just aren't up to my standards. It's not just about the combat systems either, it's the lack of character depth and world building. With action games, it's hard to have a large party and give each character some screen time. I'm going to get the new FF7 remake game part 2, but even if it's great, it's built off of the world of a pre 10 game.@@gothard5
You guys talk about getting a "fix" is so funny to me because I totally have one. I MUST, MUST hear, feel and play the first level of Super Castelvania IV on SNES. Man, THAT MUSIC. I remember playing that the first time knowing that I was about to experience something I never have before. The whip moving around in different directions, being able to swing. EPIC for me at the time and the nostalgia never goes away. A somewhat distant second is probably the first stage of Ninja Gaiden on NES. That was a biggie for me as well. I have to play it from time to time.
Yay! Always enjoy the episodes with Andrew or Robman!!! Do we think Andrew will bring up Lunar? Or is that game in the memories we try to forget category? 🙂
Every so often I go back to Neo Turf Masters. It was my first Neo Geo game, and it's still one of my all-time favorite games in general. Takushi Hiyamuta's incredible music captivated my young mind back then, and it continues to inspire me to this day.
Mirror’s Edge for me. I go through it in one sitting about once a year. I love the visual style and parkour elements. It’s so comforting and I never get sick of the gameplay.
Oh man...for NES it was FF and Dragon Warrior and SNES it was LoZ Link to the Past, Secret of Mana, FF IV and VI(yes, the magitek armor opening scene is nostalgic).
Genesis, it was Phantasy Star II and IV....I was obsessed with all.
What you guys mentioned of not letting go and comfort food games resonated with me haha, with the huge backlog I have I still have time to come back to Donkey Kong Country 2, MegaMan X and X4, Symphony of the Night, FFT and FF7, Super Mario World, KOF 2002 to name a few. To be honest, I see myself playing those games still in 10-20 years haha
Star Wars Phantom Menace on PS1 was a game I kept playing over and over. Now it’s been added in the classics collection on PS Plus I can’t wait to revisit it!
I will say that I have Phantasy star that I like to go back too, I have Blaster master too, the music so good in that one! And Rygar the arcade version, is just so nostalgic for me! I am having a lot of fun replaying my gaming memories lately too!
The animation on that original Ninja Warriors game is so fluid. I think that's why the visuals hold up so well! Lately, a comfort thing I do is blast through a couple levels of the original Doom. I love that game, and you can do so much in just ten to 15 minutes. I used to play EarthBound about once a year, but it's been awhile since I last did that. I've beaten the first two discs of Legend of Dragoon so many times as well... ALSO I had to edit this -- one of my best friend's favorite games of all time is Shadowgate on the Gameboy Color!
Final Fantasy 7. Chrono Trigger. These two games hit me emotionally so hard that the memories of the worlds feel like real life memories
Sadly lately I am not such a gamer anymore as I used to be..... But games I always play again and again (but not on a regularly basis, lets say once in 1 or 2 years or so), to give me those nostalgic feeling are: Shenmue (Dreamcast), Street Fighter 2 (never gets boring), Super Mario World (SNES), Donkey Kong (playing with a friend, SNES). I started with the C64 so maybe its time to rediscover some of those games which bring nostalgic feelings back. Greets to this wonderful channel, to all people out there! Greetings from Slovenia.
Awesome video guys 😎!
I have 3 particular games that kind of just encapsulate my childhood that I go back once in a while. Those 3 are Marvel vs Capcom 2, Sonic Adventure 2 and Tomba 2.
Whenever I play them, it reminds me of my days living in our old house that my family shared with my uncle, aunt and cousin.
Sadly, it also reminded me of the bad memories when they were fighting and made us eventually move away.
I remember recording the opening song from Final Fantasy 6 on a cassette tape and would play it over and over. Good times!
YO! A new Andrew episode?? It's a happy day today!
Wonder Boy in Monster Land was a game my late father played a lot. He would call me to help him get past difficult jumps. I remember the last stage was a bit of a puzzle with some tricky platforming that he needed help with. To this day I remember the soundtrack because he played that game so much. I picked up the Wonder Boy Collection on Switch, but I haven’t been able to bring myself to open it yet.
The games that I always come back to are Shinobi Arcade, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Chrono Trigger. There are many others, but these are the ones I play the most.
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is the retro nostalgia fix I need a couple times a year. Some of the best childhood memories made in the arcade playing this. The King of Fighters 2002 is another
Shadowgate is one of my all time faves. I also frequently replay Shadowrun on the Genesis, river city ransom on NES, Law Of The West on Commodore 64, Golden Sun 1 and 2 on GBA as well as Dragon Quest 1, 2 and 3.
Dungeon Explorer on the TG-16 is one I come back to often to forget about reality for a while.😀
I grew up with all the old consoles but my comfort game is Castlevania SOTN. I was in my teens and it was amazing discovering all the items, weapons and of course the soundtrack.
I always go back to the Donkey Kong Country & classic Sonic games. DKC2 specifically is a game I play at least once every year. Crazy Taxi is another comfort game that I play for like 10 minutes every now & then.
I play Super Mario Bros 3 multiple times a year. I love the sounds and different environments. It was such an experience going from what the original Mario looked like to this!
For me, it’s Skyrim, hundreds of hours and I’ll never forget that magical moment of walking out of the cave way back in 2011, god I love that game so much
Zelda ALLTP, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy II and Contra 3 are probably my most replayed games. So much nostalgia in these games for me.
There aren't many games I ever went and played through a second time, but my all time favorite series that still persist to this day are Metroid, Castlevania, and Mega Man. I would have to say MM2 had a huge impact on me and it's still fun even though I haven't played it in quite a while. The original Ninja Gaiden as well. Funny you mentioned World Heroes, as I distinctly remember playing that on an arcade cabinet for the first time! I never played it much after that, but it blew me away how it took Street Fighter and took it a step further.
NES - Tetris and Punch out
SNES - Super Mario Kart
GameCube - Super Smash Bros Melee
with friends - Mario Party 1-6
Agreed with Andrew Link to the past and Castlevania SOTN two gems I never get tired of. And yes the intro from FF6 the music sticks in my head
I loved Shadowgate! It was my first "point-n-click" type of game. Loved the music. I bought the remake of it, but the old one has a lot of nostalgia for me.
I always come back to most the Resident Evil games I have replayed them so many times! I also come back to Earthbound such nostalgia.
I freaking LOVE Wonder Boy in Monster Land on the SMS and play it a lot too! I thought I was the only one.
Shining Force 2. There's something about that game that has me coming back every year or so. Even just for the opening scene.
What a brilliant idea for a video. I've never thought to quantify these things, but there are games that I definitely go back to constantly just to play through the first level. My #1 game that I do that with is absolutely Castlevania: Bloodlines on Sega Genesis.
I was so stoked to finally have it on a modern platform when Konami released the Castlevania Collection a few years back. It's an overlooked gem that, in my opinion, delivered on the "16 bit Castlevania experience I was expecting after being a huge fan of the NES games. To me Super CV IV just felt too different. The sprites were huge and seeming animated with joints or something strange about them and I just never really felt like that was a continuation of the games I loved up to that point. Then we got Bloodlines on Genesis and it just felt RIGHT. Love the music, the graphics, the enemies, the two main characters, and the stages.
Hey Guys! Great video, as usual. I always enjoy playing the original Doom with my friends who grew up on it. And now we can do it without using dial-up modems! (What's that? Exactly). Other Games I enjoy playing often throughout the year are: Mega Man 1,2,3, X, X2, Super Mario 3, Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Dark Souls games, The early Twisted Metals, NHL Hitz 2003, Link To The Past, Sonic 2. I'm sure there's more but those are the ones that I keep going back to play the most. My son is 9 now, so he's well-versed on all the classics ;)
For me it was civilisation revolution on the Xbox 360 but now it's civ 6 on the ps5. I just get into this amazing flow state where I'm completely relaxed and reminded of all the "one more turn" games
For anyone who loves the Shadowgate/Deja Vu/Uninvited games, someone has made a game called Infested which is the same kind of game but in outer space.
Interesting, can you tell us more?
@@wadedewell Just search Infested game download. There's also another game called Specticle by the same author. It's a free download (recommend typing the creator for being awesome)
First off I’m really glad you guys did a video like this, there are definitely a handful I’ve played throughout the years (decades really) over and over again. Few notable ones for me
Link To The Past - I lost count how many times I’ve beaten it, it’s just something I can play from beginning to end any given day and be happy. I’ve found myself playing through it entirely in one sitting at times.
Mega Man X/X2 - It’s just perfect, specifically the first X. Another one I completely lost track how many times I’ve beaten it but it’s something I can play anytime and be fully content with my decision. X2 as well but if I had to pick it would definitely be X.
Banjo-Kazooie - Total summer comfort game for me, probably because a buddy and me played through it when it first came out over the summer break and it’ll always be a happy place for me. It’s so easy to play during that time of year, pretty much an annual tradition.
Final Fantasy IX - another summertime game for me, I’ll never forget the first time me and another friend played through it we just obsessed over it. We’d eat instant noodles and play FFIX that whole summer and I’ll just start playing it over and it’ll bring me right back. The music, sound effects, art style, it’s just magical. No other FF game has that level of nostalgia for me personally.
Metroid Zero Mission - I never got really into Super Metroid but Zero Mission definitely got me hooked. I think it was the increased speed of gameplay, or the fact I just bought a GBA but either way it’s another game I’ve beaten probably 15-20 times and I’ll find myself restarting and completing it randomly. It’s so cozy and fun just playing a game like that anywhere you want.
Street Fighter Alpha 2 - Honestly I don’t know why this is the only fighting game I can play at the drop of a hat and be completely hooked. I love other Street Fighter games but Alpha 2 is just the one I always come back to time and time again.
👍🏾👍🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 you all are so cool! I play Skyrim way too much. I finally let it go in 2022 and discovered Pillars of Eternity 2. I’ve been hooked on CRPGs ever since.
I love yall friendship. My gamer best friend since 7th grade is in jail right now so that sucks.
