Take it one step at a time in recovery, and follow your surgeon’s advice and physical therapy plan to help you get back to full strength. Here’s to a smooth procedure and a strong, steady recovery!
I had ACL torn completely from middle on dated 12 Oct 24 due to bowling in cricket and twisting of my right knee a loud pop I heard at that time which I was worried as something serious I knew there and then later on 13 I took MRI after consulting a orthopedic surgeon who said I need to have ACL reconstruction Surgery but there is no significant Pain in my knee I can move and is going to office regularly I am now in dilemma that If I really require an ACL surgery as surgery itself is another injury.
That “pop” sound you heard is often a telltale sign of an ACL tear, and it’s great that you got an MRI and consulted a surgeon. The fact that you’re not in much pain and can still move around might make it seem like you’re okay, but the real concern with a torn ACL is knee stability-especially with sports or activities that involve twisting or quick direction changes, like cricket. Without an ACL, your knee might buckle or give way unexpectedly, which can lead to further damage over time (to cartilage, meniscus, etc.). ACL surgery is definitely a big decision, though, and yes, surgery is technically another injury that requires healing. If you’re not planning to do high-demand activities soon, you could try physical therapy first to strengthen the muscles around the knee and see how it holds up. Ultimately, it’s about your future activity level and how stable your knee feels. If you’re planning to stay active in sports, surgery might be the best long-term solution. But if your knee feels strong and stable with regular activity, it’s worth discussing non-surgical options with your doctor. Take your time with the decision and weigh the pros and cons!

Here are some common symptoms that might indicate an ACL tear: 1. A “Pop” Sound or Sensation: Many people hear or feel a popping sensation in the knee at the time of injury. 2. Immediate Swelling: The knee often swells quickly (within a few hours) due to bleeding within the joint. 3. Instability or “Giving Way” Feeling: The knee may feel unstable, especially when putting weight on it or trying to change direction. 4. Limited Range of Motion: Difficulty fully bending or straightening the knee can be a sign of an ACL injury. 5. Pain and Discomfort: Pain, especially when walking, pivoting, or moving the knee, can be a symptom of a torn ACL. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s a good idea to see a doctor or sports specialist for a physical examination and possibly an MRI. This will help confirm if the ACL is torn and guide you on the next steps for treatment.
Various graft sources are used depending on the age and sex of the patient. My graft was taken from a cadaver body. I'm a male and was 44 years old at the time of surgery.
The time of discharge after ACL and LCL repair surgery can vary based on your surgeon’s protocols and the hospital’s guidelines, but in most cases, it’s a same-day outpatient procedure. This means you’ll likely be able to go home a few hours after the surgery, once you’ve recovered from anesthesia and the medical team is sure you’re stable. However, if the surgery is more complex or if there are any additional factors (like other injuries or complications), some patients may need to stay overnight for observation. Your surgeon will give you the specifics based on your surgery plan and recovery. Make sure to follow their advice and ask about any details you’re unsure of!
For an ACL Grade 3 tear, which means the ligament is completely torn, surgery is often the recommended treatment, especially for people who want to return to sports or activities that involve pivoting, jumping, or quick changes in direction. Non-surgical options like physical therapy and bracing can help improve stability for some people, but the ligament typically won’t heal on its own with just medication or rest. The decision depends on your activity level, age, and personal goals. If you’re highly active or want to return to sports, surgery is usually the best choice. However, for less active individuals, non-surgical treatment might be sufficient. It’s best to consult with your doctor to discuss the most suitable option for your situation.

That sounds incredibly tough, and I’m sorry you’ve been dealing with this for so long. An unstable knee can make daily life really challenging. Even without surgery, strengthening the muscles around your knee, especially the quadriceps and hamstrings, through targeted physical therapy might help improve stability and reduce dislocations. Bracing during activities can also offer some extra support. If surgery isn’t an option now, exploring community health resources or low-cost clinics might be worth considering for guidance. Hang in there-you’re not alone in this, and every little step toward strengthening your knee can make a difference.
Tears can sometimes heal on their own, especially if it’s a partial tear and your knee remains stable. However, complete tears often require surgical intervention for optimal recovery. If you suspect a meniscus issue as well, it’s essential to get a proper evaluation from a healthcare professional. They can determine the extent of the injuries and recommend the best course of treatment, whether that’s rest, physical therapy, or possibly surgery. That’s so inspiring to hear! It’s amazing how much quality of life can improve after a hip replacement. I’m really sorry to hear about your torn ACL, especially coming from a background in ballet. It’s understandable to feel concerned about the surgery and the costs involved, but getting the proper treatment is crucial for your long-term mobility and quality of life. If surgery is recommended, it can often help restore function and reduce the risk of further injuries, allowing you to return to activities you love. Taking this step can help you get back on your feet and dancing again. Stay positive, and take it one step at a time!
That “pop” sound is often a strong indicator of a ligament tear. It’s pretty common for people to hear or feel that during the moment of injury. If you haven’t already, it’s a good idea to get it checked out by a doctor and possibly have an MRI to see the extent of the tear. Wishing you a smooth recovery!
@@beautybliss112 For a Grade 1 ACL and PCL injury (mild sprains) and a Grade 2 LCL injury (moderate sprain), non-surgical treatment with physical therapy is often a recommended approach. Physiotherapy can help strengthen the surrounding muscles, improve knee stability, and support the ligaments in healing. With these mild to moderate sprains, the knee’s natural healing response combined with targeted strengthening can often lead to a full recovery without surgery. However, it’s essential to monitor for any signs of instability, pain, or difficulty with certain movements. Follow-up with your healthcare provider to ensure your recovery is on track, as they may adjust the treatment plan if needed.
The screws used in orthopedic surgeries are often designed to stay in place permanently. In most cases, they don’t need to be removed unless they cause discomfort or complications. Some screws are made of metal, while others are made of materials that can eventually dissolve or be absorbed by the body over time.
Orthos will always tell you that surgery is necessary because that is how they make their living, however I may be able to give you another opinion based on my experience I tore my ACL during football season and decided to wrestle with it meaning I couldn't get surgery until after wrestling season, PT can do some amazing things and during rehab before I wrestled I got to a point where I felt pretty normal for the most part, during the wrestling season there was quite a bit of pain and swelling because I was constantly aggravating it but even then I had a few good weeks where I was feeling pretty good, the question you have to ask yourself is how active do you want to be later in life, if you don't plan on returning to sports I would say surgery is not required, after a few months of recovery you will be able to run and lift normally for the most part, best case scenario you will be 90% of your pre injury self, the good thing about not getting surgery is that if you get 6-8 months down the line and don't like how it's going you can always decide to get surgery then, I had to get surgery because of my future plans which involve the Navy and other things, however pre surgery I was only slightly limited by my knee, I was able to hunt and fish and do all the things I normally do at pretty much the same level, sometimes there was pain and discomfort but nothing I wasn't willing to push through Your ability to recover without surgery depends on how dedicated you can be but also what level of athlete you are What I would recommend is to find a good physical therapist and have this conversation with him The week after wrestling and the week before my surgery I rode horses and went on some hunts where I hiked a few miles in snow and I felt great then, had a torn ACL, LCL, and med/lat meniscus tears Hope this helps

What is the time of discharge from the hospital after the surgery

Drilling holes into a bone and screwing them together seems since a crude method for a joint. 😨
Will this not be cured by medicine?
That’s so inspiring to hear! It’s amazing how much quality of life can improve after a hip replacement. Being able to walk without pain and do everyday activities like going up and down stairs without a limp or holding onto the railing is a huge milestone! I’m sure your story will encourage others who are hesitant or nervous about the procedure. Wishing you continued progress and strength in your recovery!
I can’t heal the rip tendent
I have torn ACL and I was a ballerina before it all happened. Now after 1,5 years I finally got health insurance and idk how much it all gonna be…but surgery is the only one way for me of I’ll be half disabled for the rest of my life
I’m really sorry to hear about your torn ACL, especially coming from a background in ballet.
Stay positive, and take it one step at a time!
i got surgery june 5 2024, and i’m still healing. So this is what they did to my knee? creepy… still healing trying to be patient 😂
Who's here after Eder Militao's ACL injury
Good information
One of baddest injuri 🤧
I heard i pop when i was injured. 😢
@@healthdecide thank you sooo much. 💙

If someone has acl and pcl grade 1 injury and LCL has grade 2 injury then is it fine to just go for physiotherapy ?
How long do the screws stay?
The screws used in orthopedic surgeries are often designed to stay in place permanently. In most cases, they don’t need to be removed unless they cause discomfort or complications. Some screws are made of metal, while others are made of materials that can eventually dissolve or be absorbed by the body over time.
But if i dont feel pain, it is needed a surgery? ( i felt just at the beggining, 2 days i couldn't walk
It depends on which ligament is injured and the severity.
Orthos will always tell you that surgery is necessary because that is how they make their living, however I may be able to give you another opinion based on my experience
I tore my ACL during football season and decided to wrestle with it meaning I couldn't get surgery until after wrestling season, PT can do some amazing things and during rehab before I wrestled I got to a point where I felt pretty normal for the most part, during the wrestling season there was quite a bit of pain and swelling because I was constantly aggravating it but even then I had a few good weeks where I was feeling pretty good, the question you have to ask yourself is how active do you want to be later in life, if you don't plan on returning to sports I would say surgery is not required, after a few months of recovery you will be able to run and lift normally for the most part, best case scenario you will be 90% of your pre injury self, the good thing about not getting surgery is that if you get 6-8 months down the line and don't like how it's going you can always decide to get surgery then, I had to get surgery because of my future plans which involve the Navy and other things, however pre surgery I was only slightly limited by my knee, I was able to hunt and fish and do all the things I normally do at pretty much the same level, sometimes there was pain and discomfort but nothing I wasn't willing to push through
Your ability to recover without surgery depends on how dedicated you can be but also what level of athlete you are
What I would recommend is to find a good physical therapist and have this conversation with him
The week after wrestling and the week before my surgery I rode horses and went on some hunts where I hiked a few miles in snow and I felt great then, had a torn ACL, LCL, and med/lat meniscus tears
Hope this helps

I'm waiting for my MRI results back for mine. How severe was yours? Like was it completely torn or partially?
@@socks_are_tasty22 complete tear , but with exercises i managed to live with it , along with being careful for wrong knee moves until i prepare for surgery.
@@socks_are_tasty22 i hope that your results are good and not severe 🤲🏻
@@omarsdaily thank you. what was yours like? hope you are recovered.
@@socks_are_tasty22 The pain was unbelieveable , with knee swelling like pregnant , it happened when i was playing football and made a sudden change of direction , then my knee twisted to the oppsite direction .
I met with an accident in August 2023
Got an MRI
Reports said I had torn ACL, meniscus and some more.
Doctors said to get an operation.
Did physiotherapy for a month.
Was able (still able) to walk without any pain and do normal activities.
Got another MRI in May 2024.
Healed everything except for the ACL.
Don't know should I be happy or sad. Got this at a young age of 17 and I feel like I am not able to keep up with the people around my age like run, jump etc. I know I can run/jump but there is a fear at the back of my mind.
I feel my knee is stable but I just don't know what to do.
My friends had surgery and they say they feel pain which I don't.
I really don't know what to do.
If your knee is stable for general living and stable enough for activites you do don't do the operation. I torn my acl at 16. Did all a I can to stabilize the knee but it did not work. Two years ago I had meniscus repair surgery and now I'm 19 days after acl reconstruction surgery. Mental toll operqtions give you is noth worth it if you can live happily. I had different situation than you. Any bigger rotation of knee and my knee would slightly dislocate and also I still want to compete again in karate. So take what you want from this coment
