  • The Lumba Sumba pass trek is in the Kanchenjunga region of Nepal. It is in a little-known undiscovered trekking region - off the beaten track in the remote and isolated Eastern Himalaya. More info at benhowe.co.nz/
The trail traverses the mountains between the third and fifth highest in the world - Kanchenjunga and Makalu. It passes through rarely visited Sherpa and Limbu villages, rugged valleys and up to the spectacular Lumba Sumba pass itself.
The Lumba Sumba was only opened to foreign trekkers in 2012. But even now (2018), very few outside visitors go there. Although there are teahouses in many villages, up towards the pass the trek requires at least three or four nights of camping. Many people camp for the whole trek, but mixing it up with a combination of simple lodges and camping worked for us. Once we had left the Kanchenjunga trail, we didn’t see a single other foreign trekker for about two weeks. We were late in the season (November), but I expect if you visit at any time trekker numbers will be low.
Online, I met Andrew from England, then Prakash (guide) and Sundesh (porter) from Nepal. We were a small group of four trekkers.

Your web report on benhowe.co.nz/latest/2019/2/13/the-lumba-sumba-trek-kanchenjunga-region-nepal-planning-and-advice is presently the very best report on this out-of-the-beaten-track trek, from Olangchung Gola to Chyamtang. With the fedup.com.au tracks notes (sahib trekking style). But you have been trekking "light", with just 1 guide and 1 porter for 2 trekkers. Congratulations! Exactly what I intend to do late 2020, but coming from the Makalu Base Camp.
Do you have some technical information: walking times, distances, ups and downs per day... Unfortunately no wikiloc tracks between Makalu area and Kangchenjunga.
