SLIDER'S VINTAGE PICKUPS - 59's - DEMO BY TOMMY KATONA
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 жов 2009
- We were amazed, again, at the quality of workmanship and attention to detail when these, our 2nd set, arrived. Each pickup was tagged with a full description listing the wire type, winding, resistance, etc These pickups were recommended to us by Rod, and not surprisingly, were exactly the tone we wanted for this axe. The aged covers were as authentic looking as any I've seen. We put them in and were immediately blown away by the purity of the tone. That's when we knew that all our Strats would be getting Slider's Vintage Pickups. These pickups have been featured in ToneQuest magazine and that's no small time publication. Do your homework and you'll find nothing but outstanding reviews on Harmony Central, StratoBlog, Guitar World. Every user has said pretty much the same thing...best pickups they've ever used and the customer service is incomparable. It's all true folks. Rod @ Slider's knows tone and how to get it. Contact him @ myspace.com/slidersvintagepickups and he'll be glad to work with you to get the tone that'sin your head. This was 2nd set, now we have three and have more guitars waiting.
Awesome playing Tommy great Sounding Pickups
Thank you. This is my favorite sounding demo of the slider pick ups (59 vs 69 vs 59SRV)
Nagyon jó! kiváló hang!you are fantastic player , nice tones!
Veramente bravo , bellissimi suoni!
5 stars !
Wery sweet sound my friend!
Stratoblogster Approved!
I have this set. They're big-- especially the neck pickup!
I have a both a 65 reissue and 59 reissue strat. both sets of these sss pups would sound great in my axe
Tommy was using my '78 Deluxe Reverb (silver face) for these Slider's Demos. Would love to hear how you like your new p/u's when you get them installed. Thanks
@Bluesy1990 No mods to the amp but yes to a speaker change. It's a Hellatone.
Very nice! My brother and I grabbed a set of 59 AlNiCo 3's from Slider for each of our Strats and they really are awesome and completely unique depending on what guitar they've been placed in!
When is Tommy coming down to the land of Oz? :) It'd be great to watch him gig here here in Australia!
Cheers!
Wow, very impressive! Every setting was cool and classic sounding.
Tow questions...
1. Is that an ash body strat?
2. What year and model tube screamer?
Nice tone Tommy. I just got a set. I'll be putting them in in a few days to replace my SCN pickups in my Deluxe Ash Strat. What amp are you using in this demo?
I didnt hear any 60cycle hum from those pickups. What do you think of the the BB preamp boost from xotic effects compared to the tubescreamer? Your SRV is spot on bro, I love it. Cheers!
Some people blessed with long ass fingers🤙🤣 great playing!! my stubby fingers try so hard.. got to get me some of these sliders
Hi, Very very good tone ! I would like to know which is the speaker in your amp ?
I'm really interested in these....will I prefer them to my stock Fender Alnico 5's :)
@lmafia9009 sounds straight up on the tone knob, no distortion, full level. probably some preamp drive going to the power tubes.
Very Impressed. What are your wiring harness and strings that you are using on this guitar ?
@zkat2 Thanx for your answer.
I think I like the sound of these pickups best too. Which does Tommy prefer? ...and what song IS that at 2:12. The dirty neck/middle riff. Is it a take on Scuttle Buttin'?
@mikka972 It is a Hellatone speaker sold by Avatar. Fantastic speakers!!!
It's an alder body...an SRV strat actually with a different pickguard. It's a TS9...not sure how old.
He even looks lik SRV. Lovely tone!
Tommy, you are SERIOUSLY the next Stevie Ray Vaughan! Nuff said! ;)
very very close to SRV sound .what gauge strings did you use?
Do you find them close to the originals made by Leo Fender?
Howdy there, just had a quick question about the amp. Is it modified at all? I've got a 1968 Deluxe Reverb, these same pickups, TS-808, and can play some SRV type stuff but still can't get my guitar to sound like this. I understand tone is in the fingers and that Tommy has been playing much longer than I have, but was just wondering if there was some kind of speaker change or anything. Thanks!
what was the song before testify?
After leaving the SRV tribute band Tommy just wanted some seperation from that scene and identity. Change is good.
Really nice sounding pickups and nice playing...lower your pickups a bit and it will be even more airy. Beautiful job....
Rod sells direct now rather than on eVilbay where fees are ridiculous here's the current details :-) sliderspickups.com/product-item/s-style/
@ZKDanika take a look at how those pickups are made there is no comparison i had texas specials i know the difference
haha haha ha touche - my thoughts exactly mate- I have some SRV 59's winging their way to New Zealand as we speak Lol I lived in OZ 10 years and played all over Australia in Pubs and RSL's and in The Perth Concert Hall. The thing is we get lucky, because the Yanks won't wanna believe an "Aussie" makes better Vintage Fender pickups than they do :) Let alone the best sounding SRV 59's and Beltones on the Planet. Many will be negative? We will stun them with finesse and SRV tones to die for!
I'm a "Yank", as you like to call it, and I have had a pair of slider SRV 59's in my American Deluxe Ash strat since I bought the thing new in 2011. It might have taken awhile for word to reach the US about these pickups but I've never heard anyone say anything negative about them because they are made in Australia.
2:02 sick
Why did you go with the Alnic 3 mags instead of 5?
AND YEAH THESE ARE HANDMADE in Australia and no i don't work for rod but ive owned all the old pickups from the 50's and 60's i still have them as well and some are superb but others are not so good Rod makes buying the classic pickups we all know and love easy if you want inferior stuff go buy it you will be back after you waste your money a number of times you just cannot buy as good as SLIDERS PICKUPS AND YEAH THATS MY OPIONION
Rod primarily sells his p/u's on ebay...search for Slider's Vintage Pickups there or send me a private message and I'll hook you up with his info
@longwhip hand made in the usa means little anymore when these original designs were made and we are talking in the 50's right up until 64 you kind of got what you paid for after this period untill 73 fenxxr pups were ok but after that period forget it i know what you are referring to and i also know how alot of people keep their prices cheap if your convinced what you have is good then that's great you like what you have but i also know why i did not buy the pickups you mentioned
These or lindy fralins?
Are you still using these?
this video just saved me a fortune. £24 000 or summit last time i checked ebay
Where do you buy these. I can't find them on the net.
I know the guy who makes them in Sydney Australia I can get you a set
that´s the number one strat- srv sign on plate
i think it´s sounded better to me with the texas special
does Z Katona reply to comments?
we are not talking about second hand smits pups im talking about the crap that come out of the original guitars post 73 and i enquired about smits hand wounds when i asked the usa specific question i know the answer i was given thats why i bought elsewhere
@hq72hotmale Well you are intitled to it...and I will be buying Smits not because they are cheaper, but sonically as good / better than Sliders and If I ever find someone selling a set of sliders for the right price, I might buy a set to A/B in my Smalley strat and do a youtube video to demonstrate that SMITS are just as sonically correct and pleasing as Sliders....I promise you that!!
@WinnieRoo1138 Sounds like Testify to me...
hmmm. I think I like the texas specials better , but these pickups definatley sound good . Ugyes vagy Tamas , hajra tovabbra is !
You even sound like srv when you're talking
@longwhip ASK KEVIN WHERE HIS PICKUPS ARE MADE
very
SMIT's HANDWOUNDs are a great choice for anyone who loves vintage sounds without that "ice pick" treble ladened bridge pickup, who also loves that quacky strat sound with touch and feel beyond compare. hq72hotmale keeps talking how Rod "makes classic tones everytime not just on occasions or by fluke pickups in the past were hit and miss rod has taken the guess work out of classic tones" is stolen wording from LOLLAR pickups ad "Straight truth about pickups" in Vintage Guitar Magazine.
@hq72hotmale I really don't care where he gets his parts to tell you the truth. His craftsmanship and the END result is exactly what I WANT in looks, sound, FEEL, and TONE and I have NEVER put down SLIDERS or ROD. After ALL this banter, I think you are seriously in love with rod or a rod, I don't know, and don't care either...just saying"SMIT's if you don't want to spend the extra money and still get a better tone than any stock or specialty pickup.....CAN WE END THIS TODAY????
Quote''I really don't care where he gets his parts to tell you the truth''End Quote exactly you dont care so your happy with a minimalist situation hey that aint bad i am sure his product sparkles Quote''His craftsmanship '' End Quote Again i repeat have you asked him personally ?? Quote''I have NEVER put down SLIDERS or ROD''End Quote Did i say you did? Quote''After ALL this banter, I think you are seriously in love with rod or a rod,'' End Quote Banter ?? not coming from me in love with Rods work yeah you got that in one and ahhh i will leave the tool jokes for the tool shed mate you can park your opinion there Quote''I don't know, and don't care either.''End Quote Exactly well said... Quote''.just saying"SMIT's if you don't want to spend the extra money and still get a better tone than any stock or speciality pickup.....CAN WE END THIS TODAY????'' End Quote Ahhh maybe some stock pickups but all speciality pickups i think you better get your hearing checked or change your equipment soon Yeah that's about it we can end it now .........
@hq72hotmale AGAIN...your choice...GO to Harmony Central and see for yourself the amount of compliments that are given to SMITS HANDWOUNDS and you will see they are ten fold the purchase price and are not "cheap" as in cheaply made or conceived, but a better value than SLIDERS in getting that same classic tone. SMits handwounds are incredible and give you that same "air" "blue" notes scatterwound feel that 60 year old vintage pickups give you without the huge cost. TRY SMITS HANDWOUNDS and SEE!
@longwhip harmony central is not what id call recommendation central
@longwhip Ive seen his video with his les paul junior sure his pickups are nice but ask for his genuine usa guarantee if he guarantees this i will even buy a set for the price and am i biased i sure i am the only asian country i will buy from is japan
AGAIN I REPEAT ASK KEVIN TO GUARANTEE HI PICKUPS ARE USA MADE AND FOR THE PRICE YOUR RIGHT HIS ARE HARD TO BEAT IF THEIR USA MADE AGREED HIS PRICES ARE GOOD
BUT I AM MORE THEN HAPPY WITH ROD
For the price....Kevin Smith's handwounds sound as good as these for way less.
@hq72hotmale Being OCD about tone and pickups is one thing...I have played every model of DUNCAN that was ever made....Being OCD about some parts being from overseas, but the ENTIRE pickup wound in the USA at his house, and the art of HOW he winds that makes the total package special is ALL Kevin, NOT ASIAN hands doing this. I would NOT even care if he had ASIAN dudes peeing on the pickups to age them, THEY SOUND THAT FRIGGIN GOOD!! Wayne/hq72hotmale...this is a "no win" situation! here...
I am not ocd about tone or pickups but i do know the difference on what i am hearing as well so you have played every duncan pickup but you are set on smits pickups hmmm well i guess if it comes down to price smits wins and no i am not ocd about the parts he Rod Mc Queen uses i know what he uses and i have owned all the original 50,s and 60,s pickups he is re creating to know the difference as well in the early days pickups on good and bad days were hit and miss with Rod that does not happen any more Quote ''but the ENTIRE pickup wound in the USA at his house, and the art of HOW he winds that makes the total package special is ALL Kevin, NOT ASIAN hands doing this. End Quote'' Hmmm have you asked Kevin this himself ?? I did many years ago i hope your right about that Quote''this is a "no win" situation! here''...End Quote when you learn a little more about critical listening come back and tell me then till then SHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ENOUGH SAID
@hq72hotmale They are handmade in the USA. Right where the "original" Fender pickups were made that "SLIDER's" ARE NOT MADE!?!?! While his pickups sound great and I am a fan of his work.....SMITS HANDWOUNDS sound JUST AS GREAT and does not cost 400+ to get that sound....PERIOD. I would put SMITS up against SLIDERS on a video for comparison, BUT I am not inclined to spend that kind of money for something I ALREADY KNOW to be true!! My SMITS are AS GOOD FOR THE MONEY, not hit or miss accidents!
Respond to this video... another thing you may or may not be aware of winding pickups was an art back then it was hit and miss some pickups were legendary and those pickups and i am talking particular sets are what made everyone think that all pickups were perfect this is not so Rod made what people did in the past consistent and predictable he can give you any type of sound from those eras which in my opionion will stand up to th best the world has to offer PERIOD
Looks like he’s held hostage or something 💀🤚
SMITS HAND WOUNDS SOUND GREAT TOO I ASKED ABOUT THE PICKUPS AND WHEN I SAID WHERE ARE THESE MADE WELL I REMEMBER THE ANSWER I WAS GIVEN that's why i did not buy them if thats all i could afford yes id buy his pickups he makes a great product at a price point and ROD MAKES A GREAT PRODUCT at a very fair price go see what that other original pickup from fenxxr will cost you and they sound sterile ice picky and not worth what you spend why are there so many ex sets on evil bay for sale then ?????
@buddyrush1059 U mad bro?
Jelly?
@longwhip ask where smiths hand wounds are made first then you will know why they are so cheap sure i think his stuff is fine but if your going to get it made ive heard nothing that has a patch on rods stuff if fexxer were smart they would employ rod at the custom shop then see how their sales increased with rodspickups on board rod makes classic tones everytime not just on occasions or by fluke pickups in the past were hit and miss rod has taken the guess work out of classic tones
OK JUST FOR THE RECORD yep kevin makes his stuff in the usa but in his own words not everything is sourced so his prices are cheap his pickups are great but please don't run down slider he is doing all his own stuff just as it was done in the past whats the difference he is consistent and his product is predictable im sure kevins are too but at the time i was going to buy from him what stopped me was the overseas parts and i dont believe we were talking usa
dude you ever hear of this guy named stevie ray vaughan? you're sound is just like his! i think you'd def dig his stuff.
@longwhip quote"just saying"SMIT's if you don't want to spend the extra money and still get a better tone than any stock or specialty pickup.....CAN WE END THIS TODAY????"endquote" ha and your telling me your not biased quote"and still get a better tone than any stock or specialty pickup'" Oh really and you have tested every pick up there is to test have you now so what amp do you use to test out these god like tones your crowing on about quote".CAN WE END THIS TODAY????"end quote'' i hope so
Respond to this video... no snake oil with sliders pickups i know rods background and he was in the military he was involved in electronics as well believe what you like im not trying to make you buy his pickups many others are already doing that
here another comment kevin also made to me
Quote''Wayne, if you are asking because you are concerned about the quality of my pickups, I choose the highest quality parts available and have customer satisfaction ratings to back up my products. If you are asking for political reasons, I don't want to lose your business, but I don't discuss that and don't feel it's relevant to the quality of my pickups.end quote''
so kevin would not tell me where he sourced his parts from need more proof
@longwhip r e a d m y l i p s ask him yourself
@longwhip no they are not better and first to do the test you need to know something about miking up things correctly for starters first tip you also got to know what amp to use not just plug it into any ole amp anyway good luck and sliders stuff anint overpriced you want what you have that's great ask kevin will he gurantee his pups are not made in asia period
@hq72hotmale There are very few SMits pickups USED, being sold on ebay. Kevin sells on ebay like SLider does. When Kevin has pickups he builds that are either test pickups or for experiment, he'll sell them at a cut cost just so it is not sitting around the bench. You are dead wrong that Smits are ending up on ebay at a huge rate. Do your homework and I guaranteed every person I set up with Smits that if they didn't like them after I installed them, I would refund their money myself. PERIOD.
ALL magnets get weaker and pickups will eventually fail and lose tone like pots and capacitors do also. Smits Hamdwounds are made in the USA around Nashville Tennessee and he has great youtube videos that are real clear and not over produced to sell his stuff. Kevin is as good as Seymour and SLider (ROD) or anyone out there and his guarantee says it ALL!! hq72hotmale needs to comment and use blurbs from LOLLAR ads to describe SLIDERs...and there are more LOLLARs used on ebay than Smit's!!
look even being Asian for what he is achieving its great i just dont want made is Asia pickups maybe he has changed his tune since we last spoke but if their asain made id rather reserve my money for what i feel is true value the only nice Asian made pickup that i heard that was nice was from a 1976 fernandes burny olds blonde telecaster copy made in japan now if rods pickups were made in Asia id not buy them either so there you go
Rod will tell you where all his stuff comes from with no reservations at all again that takes nothing away from kevin accept we dont know where the parts come from
do you think his pickups would be as cheap if every step and stage was made in the usa go figure
@longwhip THEY ARE NOT BETTER VALUE THEY ARE GOOD BUT NOT BETTER VALUE IF THEY ARE MADE IN ASIA FULLSTOP
I HAVE NO COMPLAINT ABOUT SMITS HAND WOUND A QUALITY PRODUCT IT IS
BUT IF THEIR ASAIN THEN FORGET IT SO YOU GET HIS GUARANTEE AND THEN COME BACK AND TELL ME THEN I WILL CHANGE MY TUNE
@hq72hotmale GEEZ where do you get that bullshit information about his pickups being wound in ASIA???? Check out the sight for yourself and you will see ALL YOU NEED! Miking, blah, blah blah, I work in many studios as a producer and guitar tech and know that stuff cold...the pickups are handmade in the USA and are very equal to SLIDERS without the "snake oil" and BS high price!
There is only one Stevie Ray Vaughn and it is Stevie Ray's unique riffs and phrasing that Stevie Ray thought of first and Stevie Ray developed. which he played in his own inimitable blues style. His distinctive tone that Stevie and only Stevie developed first, before anyone had even heard those harmonic crescendos. Everyone else is merely emulating Stevie Ray's greatness and copying everything from Stevie Ray Vaughn's legacy. You do Stevie Ray Vaughn a huge disservice. Nuff said! :)
That's a pretty petty comment. You reek of an insecure butt hurt douche-bag who is jealous that you will never be anywhere near as good as this kid is.
And if you knew anything about SRV or the blues at all you'd know that
SRV took much of his style DIRECTLY from Albert King and Jimi Hendrix.
If SRV was alive today he would be proud of this kid who is HONORING SRV and the blues in general by keeping the long tradition alive. You're pathetic.
Hmm similar to the licks from jimi Hendrix and Albert king that he emulated right? Lmao.... you can't call the guy a emulator and srv was a emulator for much of his career himself lmao
TheStratplayer1 what a idiot you are
