- On this week of Street You Grew Up On, Kerry is joined by the talented comedian, actress, and writer, Robin Thede. The two travel between Robin’s hometown in Iowa and her grandmother’s house on the south side of Chicago where she spent her summers growing up. Here is where she formed her fondest memories: road-tripping to the city, playing with kids in the neighborhood, cooking with her grandmother, cracking jokes, and putting together skits with her cousins. Spending time with family is where she would discover her love for comedy and television; being inspired by watching Whoopi Goldberg and Kim Wayans perform. Robin eventually was able to meet these two inspiring women and thank them for their role in her continued success.

Safe to say the butters in this video are laid 💁🏽♀
We said buttas when somebody hair was long. I was born in ‘94 in Chicago 😂
@@marchetravani9789 Yes, buttas relate to long hair. But she was on the right track. :)
When you get your hair done the saying was “you got your buttas whipped”
I love Robin she never fails to be so animated and goofy. It makes sense she grew up in a funny family. She's such a delight.
Robin & Kerry's rapport is like best friends. The way they greeted eachother was with so much love! Robin kept the energy high and she made the perfect guest.
Enjoy the journey that's the magic not the destination. Always ask yourself what am I giving out of it not what am I getting. Peace 💫🧡
Love these two. I hope Robin gets another show. ❤❤
Loved this episode! I had no idea that Robin was from Chicago and Iowa. I'm a Chicagoan and I have family in Iowa. I got a chuckle out her going through Chicago slang. lol.... Also, her stories of her time on the South Side with her grandmother and extended relatives made me smile. I could definitely relate as someone who grew up on the North and West sides of the city, as well as spent holidays and school breaks with my relatives. The best part of this episode was Robin sharing how she has continued her family's legacy and great purpose of being in service to their communities. Lastly, I wish that "Black Lady Sketch Show" could've gotten picked up for another season, but I'm sure Robin is cooking up something even greater.
Robin decided not to continue the BLSS. Not that it was canceled
@@udntknomeXX Oh okay, I thought that Angel Laketa Moore, who was on the final season, said that the show had been canceled; but maybe I misheard that. Either way, I'm looking forward to whatever comes up next for her.
This episode was hands down one of my favorites 🎉🎉🎉 Great job Kerry and Robin ❤
Love these women
This should have more views. Robin Thede is legendary.
Loveeee Robin Thede. I can’t even fully explain. Love this show and this interview. One of my faves. 🔥❤️😭
Robin is such a comedic Goddess.
I love this podcast. And through it, I admire Kerry even more. 💖✨
This is me realizing that Robin was raised in Chicago, and grew up in the historic South Shore. I had no idea, and have been a fan for years. South Siiiiiiiiiiiiiide! Love you sis.
Black Lady Sketch Show showcases the MOST talented FOLKS!
This interview made me proud of the southside I forgot there were some good times
That hump on South bound LSD was always so fun. We used to pretend that we were flying when we hit that hump. What a shared core memory unlocked.
I dig her so much. Her shows are so freaking funny. Very dope💐🔥.
This was absolutely inspiring! Thank you to you both!! ❤
OMG! This is wild! I actually grew up on 73rd and Oglesby in Chicago at my grandmother's house! I wasn't expecting that!
It's TUESDAY 🎉😊
The phrase was “Your butters is whipped” meaning your hair was sharp or laid!!
In the DMV area butters are the tan Timberland boots
A family in service to others! Remind me of my family so many ways.
I love this series. It’s crazy how much I didn’t know I needed it. I go through so many emotions each episode. Thank you Kerry. 🤎🤎🤎
Didn't everyone ride around in an Impala with no seat belts?
Love THISS!
i love this!! Very good interview. Love the butters!♥
Omg we also said MODED in San Francisco. I thought it was just Bay slang. 😂
Robin👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💐❣️
This is one of my favorite podcast
I adore this video ❤. Thank you, ladies.
YES "molded!" Bay Area CA 80s/90s-- it meant embarrassed or the shame someone should experience- generally when wrong ie- "I told you I red and you in here in blue? I know you molded- go change your shirt!"
Happy to hear your story
Thanks for this fun conversation! But curious: What is your take on Walmart funding APAC which is creating policies that hurt Black communities including funding the prison industrial complex?
"Your butter is whipped"!
Great show!❤
I wonder if her Gramma's house is still in the family. Gentrification hit the city hard and many of those classic redbrick neighborhoods have all been bought out. My gramma's was
West side of Chicago. We used to say you got your butter whipped. #1977
I was just saying to myself that she should have said "I need to get my butters whipped"
Funny episode & she’s vegan! 😩♥️
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
We said bossticated in Tidewater VA!
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👌🏾
The two of you gave me sooo much joy!
Kerry, I’d like to know how you consider yourself an activist but have not spoken up at all for Palestinians??
My mom is a teacher.
I lovee lovee this interview. Can you please please please interview Nicki Minaj? She is so misunderstood. As a barb that listens to her on spaces thoroughly, I have been able to see a deeper side that many don't get to see.
