Absolute masterpiece. Something to consider. At the time this was released they were releasing tracks for the Mayday EP. Actually, the Mayday in the Making docu-series released just before this hit. So, they had new The Warning songs coming out for the first time in a couple of years and there was a LOT on the line, working to gain traction in the industry. To do this, and take the risks they did in truly recreating an iconic song, was amazing. And, they did it in a little over a week. This song, the same song that went viral and started their career, could have ended it. Instead, they created an absolute masterpiece. The song was teased on a video game trailer before it was officially released. Just a snippet...and it caught FIRE. Can you tell I love this track? The live harmonies with Dany and Pau are incredible. Beautiful. Magical. Yep...I'm a fan.
The combination of black and white, and Alessia’s projection on the wall gives it a more creepy horror/lullaby vibe. And of course Pau’s bedtime prayer is just the icing on the cake. 😎👍
The video was filmed at Fábrica de Textiles El Porvenir in Santiago, N.L., Mexico, which is south of their hometown of Monterrey in the state of Nuevo Leon.
If you want an anecdote, the location of the abandoned mill was home to a colony of bats. After the video was released I'm told they had a contest to see who could find the frame(s) that had captured a bat flying over their heads. I eventually found it near the beginning, it's pretty shadowy but once you realize it was a bat it's easy to see. I grew up on Dracula and the classic monster movies so the video is pure gold.
Since first hearing this Metallica's version has now almost become a cover !! When i think of this song- this is the version i think of. Well done ladies. Greatest tribute ever. ,❤🤘🏻✌🏻
The reason we only see a projection of Alessia, which is awesome btw, is pure practical. Both the song and the video were recorded during the pandemic. Alessia was home in Canada and the girĺs were home in Mexico.
Dany, Pau, and Ale had ten days to rearrange the song, record it and submit it for the Blacklist. Alessia Cara was in Canada the entire time and her parts were brought in on computer. Since she could not be at the video shoot, her images were projected on the wall. Nice video by The Warning team.
Both impressive and mind blowing! I wonder how many "big" artists would have declined the invitation when they realized they had to get it done, from a blank sheet of paper to finished track, in 10 days?
I believe prior to becoming the Warning's manager, Rudy was movies location manager, working on Hollywood movies shot in Mexico... so he would be expert at finding good location to shoot music videos.
Give all credit to Alessia here as without her and her management team this never would of happened. Alessia was contacted by Metallica for the Blacklist album and she was the one to contact TW as she had never done metal before. Metallica approved of this as they had seen TW do their cover of Enter Sandman from years ago. The Warning is the one that rearranged the original song to make it their own. In Live concerts, before they play this they always credit Alessia Cara. They also use a backing track for Alessia doing the chorus parts. Great reaction and always looking for more.
This is important music video imo. Many skip it for the live but it's important to acknowledge Alissa Cara as a part of it. Without her and there management it probably wouldn't have happened. This was recorded in an abandoned textile mill in or near Monterey, and it made for an awesome video. Top tier video and under the time and covid constraints is just that much more impressive.
It was already mentioned that it was filmed in a burnt out factory near there home and it was full of bats. Dany talked about it in a live chat and said it was scary at first but after and hour or so they all became friends. The other thing they said the scene where they are in the door ways was horrible. The doors contained the factories bathrooms and were very ripe from being closed for years.
🔥. This is my favorite version….of Ales hair🤣. But yes, of the song too. And even of the 4 The Warning versions. Once a proper video of the Pepsi Center version comes out with the strings I reserve the right to change my ranking😊. The most amazing thing of the video is that Pau’s prayer even got filmed…. (There were 🐞🐛🐜🦟🪲🪳🕷️!!!)
This OMV is well overlooked by many. It is definitely well worth the watch and the creativity is top notch. Metallica fan all my life, saw them live many times, but what the Ladies created here and in the Live version is, to me, the best cover or re-invention of this iconic song I have ever heard, MHO. Thanks guys...this journey keeps getting better and better by the day. Much appreciation. Cheers, stay well. Rock on.
The song was arranged and recorded in a little over a week with Alessia Cara in Canada and the Warning in Mexico (no travel due to the pandemic). I don't know when the video was done relative to the recording of the song.
For some strange reason every time I watch the ES OMV and they are doing the group walking and going down the stairs, I get flashbacks from my time in boot camp for the United States Navy. I don’t know why but when they are walking in the opening scene I always pay attention to see if they are in step due to the drilling we received in marching to help build teamwork. The same holds true for when they are coming down the stairs and I always think that scene could have been more impactful if they had indeed been on the same timing going down the stairs. Ale and Dany are in synch but Pau is out of synch with her other sisters. It’s such a small idiosyncrasy, I know, but I notice it every time I watch the video. Doesn’t affect my enjoyment of it though so that’s a positive. This is also the first time I’ve watch the OMV and noticed what Pau is wearing for a necklace during the prayer. I think I have always been fixated on her face every other time I’ve watched it.
Another fantastic reaction video, of a fantastic video. This was done before the Teatro concert, which uses a backing track of Alicia's whoas, as a tribute to her contribution to the song. I could be wrong about this.......But I'm not.
Not as a reaction but a couple of other videos you might find interesting are: The Warning - Recording Enter Sandman (Behind The Scenes) - The Metallica Blacklist Album and The Warning & Alessia Cara | Talking about their Enter Sandman cover from The Metallica Blacklist
Fun Fact: the studio rendition has Pau doing the prayer but in concert, Dany does it... why? in concert, Pau is working the drums and the pattern is too different for the cadence of the prayer... she has commented that it was too much for her to try to do both... Dany, with her gravel voice, does the prayer with more menace and grit... it changes things just a touch and gives the song a new 2nd soul... TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
re: reimagined *Enter Sandman* : DPA/TW and Alessia Cara certainly understood the assignment! Alessia Cara is a Grammy winning Canadian Pop and R&B singer... they had 10 days to rip this rendition of *Enter Sandman* from the ether and make it a darker, more eerie, and a more haunting lullaby than the original metal version... they made the deadline and got this OMV for it to boot! this reimagining and performance were done because they, and many other artists from numerous genres, were invited by Metallica to take one of the songs from the original _"Black"_ album, keep the lyrics and change it up how ever you like... play it backwards, upside down, whatever... this was all for the 30th anniversary of the _"Black"_ album... all the submissions from 50someodd artists were put on the 2021 _"The Metallica Blacklist"_ album... the proceeds from the album sales are split 50/50 with half going to Metallica's "All Within My Hands Foundation" and the other half being donated to a charity of the participating artists' choice. in the OMV, Dany (guitar) and Alessia share the lead vocals until they are in the three doorways when Dany takes over and Alessia does more of the background oooohs and aaaahs... the version they play in concert has Dany doing the vocals with a backing track of Alessia's ohhhs and ahhhs... of course Ale (bass) and Pau (drums) join in with their angelic harmonies in both... this is a fantastic reimagining of the iconic original... this 60+ year old rocker loves both versions of Enter Sandman but this one by TW and Alessia gets more airtime these days 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
I thought the same thing, and I'm sure we're not alone on that. But I always think this applies to watching the live video before the OMV. That is a spoiler of sorts as well.
Always wondered if Metallica is kicking themselves in the butt for not going with the warning originally but asking a pop artist to do a song they already had Miley Cyrus and some rapper guy doing remixes
I love this version better than Metallica’s original. I don’t know what was the role of Alessia … but her signing wasn’t needed. Kudos if she help composing the new version anyway.
Quite simply, she was asked by Metallica if they would take part. She and her management asked the Warning if they could do something together. Alessia had never played metal and had no idea about metal. Without Alissea, the 3 of them wouldn't have been able to join in.
Since both artists are part of the same label ( Universal / Lava records ) to me , feels like the reps. from Metallica didn't want to ask The ⚡️ Warning directly ( for whatever reasons ) and chose Alessia. And , since Rock is not her genre , the suggestion for The ⚡️ Warning came in.

That's cool. Can you give the timestamp for that? I'd love to see it.
I was not aware about the making of the music video footage. Thanks guys 👍
@DeansMayhem yeah, I'll look later tonight, though like I said it's mostly a shadow passing quickly. Still cool to see.
The Warning y su cover original de Enter Sandman ,nos muestran toda su gran creatividad y potencial son maestras sin duda

It also helps they have the same international management company

Creo que a metallica le complació la versión que hicieron las chicas tienen un video dónde recibieron una caja con regalos de la discografia del grupo
