Very nice work, I use the APC 40 for both laser and music producing as well, it's real cool stuff. Maybe I'll buy the APC40 mk2 for music and the older one for working with beyond laserNET. Thanks for sharing.
apple oh yea that stuff.. 2 words for you : foxconn suicides. id prefer my fl studio or ubuntu studio software over any mac anyday. its personal choice. windows is a product of combined knowledge of hundreds of ppl for decades. thers no way mac can beat that at any front. iOS is nothing more then a encrypted linux distro or whatever, with a bunch of java apps probably open source apps which they put an apple logo + a pricetag on. a mac cant beat ubuntu studio, cause its the same + opensource.
are we talking about for production purposes here? I think your mistake was getting an iMac and not a mac pro. iMacs aren't intended for full on production, where as the pros are. It's like you bought a road bike to go off-roading, the bike will handle well on the road, but you'll crash the second you hit a rock. sorry man you just made an expensive mistake.
does the apc20 work in similar ways to the apc40? cause i just got it and ableton suite and it seems like i cant figure out what the sends do and i was gonna try to do step sequencing but cant figure it out? if you can help me out id appreciate it...sorry so new to music....never got into anything till i got the apc20
People are just jealous the cant afford macs with high end DAW's, screw it dude I own an APC40, I do my stuff without getting any complaints. Im also a musician with 15 years experience, playing drums , keys and guitar. as long as u love what u do do it, who cares about anybody's comments. get out, get paid, screw everyone!
let me get this straight. to create song you are mixing together various different tracks and tweaking their volume levels and eq to make them sound good together. how is this not djing? this is definitely not a live performance.
(is it just me?), or all the ableton demos seem to be one loop, one groove, repeating, with improvised effects, all in the same key. Are there any demos of someone improvising with an actual song? ie with separate intro, verse chorus etc
whats there maximum channel limit, or is there 1? if not is there a way u can load another saved project whilst the current 1 plays? (seporate window thats sinked in or sum shit?)
Hackintosh doesn't mean pirated. You can pay for the software and legally, as long as you aren't installing OS X in order to sell the computer you haven't done anything wrong.
Hey, how do you use 4 sends? There are only 3 to switch between. Is it possible to control more than 3 sends with the Apc40? How do one switch between more than 3 sends? Thanks In Lak'ech
@t1mTV I'm not mixing together different tracks but different loops that I've created or sampled. Then I trigger in or trigger out the different loops when I want plus i may add the effects when I want and how much i want. Since I do all this live on stage, I'm performing live. I like to call it "live composition" or "live composing". Dj'ing typically involves mixing other people's already completed musical works by usually fading one track out into another track and so on.
My opinion is that you're a mouse. Opinions aren't based on fact or knowledge. I used to be against Apple. "I'll build my own PC for great price:performance." But when you start doing more music creation you'll have less time for Windows bullshit. After 5 PCs I'll take a Mac mini over a any Dell anyday.
Is the APC40 only used with the session view for performing?? I just got one but I've only been using arrangement view in Ableton for writing songs. :/
It works with both session and arrangement, so really it's up to you. Experiment with both, they both have their strengths and weakness. Also you can swap to either quickly by hitting the tab key on your computer.
Hey I have a question! So I'm a keyboardist for a metal band and ive been trying to get a software that will allow me to use my keyboard and easily switch to different sounds and stuff while playing live. Would Ableton Live be a good program for me to use?
Ableton Live supports all MIDI inputs that I've tried..so, yes....try it out from Ableton.com They have demo versions...and if you're ambitious enough, you can find a copy "somewhere".
Ableton is an amazing tool, but if you're just looking to warp/change/play with the sounds, I recommend Reason. Cheaper by far and pretty great for fun sound design and sound sets.
+Ariana Dawson Hey, I am a Keyboarder for a Metal Band. Hopefully you already have found a soloution for your Problem, but i only use Ableton vor live keyboarding. If you have backing trackst, and you have to play witch click, you can also program the Sound changes, so you can full concentrate on your performance

os x I'm pretty sure runs Unix, not Linux. The idea is that the simpler something is the better it runs, with a unix based operating system you run much more efficiently and the coding is much more straight forward. Less chance of something going wrong. All I know is that my CPU is at like 2-5% on an old macbook pro in ableton with a full track, whereas any PC I see running ableton has it's CPU up at 70 or higher. That is why mac is useful for production.
@t1mTV YOU can improvise. if you can improvise than you're performing live... When a band play someone else tunes, they are not do any live creation... and even if YOU have created the piece, you rarely improvising and you play the piece after a lot of practice (ok, some do improvise like in Jazz or blues).... so in fact, Ableton live + the APC40 give you the freedom to improvise, adapt, create something in a specific place and time and it'll be different every time.
Where did you get the first drum track (1st channel beat)? It sounds identical to one of the baseline elements from LSG's In Too Deep (Medway remix) - a song I love but was unable to get on vinyl back in the day. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.
Can you introduce analog instruments into the software through live recording? In other words, can you record "live" into the software like as if i was using it as an 8-track or 16-track analog recording studio. Thereby, take those recordings and manipulate them so that they can be sampled or used in the tracks? How did you obtain those voice samples? Or for this matter, how many samples are native to the software, and where do you get samples in the public domain, or do you produce your own?
I have a really hard time performing in ableton live, because I like to mix my songs that have different bpms, and then when I do my fx sections like beat repeat and delay that rely on bpm get thrown off. any suggestions?
Hi man, im Matias from Argentina, and i use live as you, but i do a little of mush up, but the same tips of work you do live. My question is how can you get a dramatic moment, or an "explosion", or cut at the same time several channels.......because in the apc 40 only can see 8 clips. So if you are in the vocals clips (as the video) and you have to cut off the beats clips......its get really difficult. Do you have any advise, or ideas? Saludos amigo !
@warchild1976 adjust buffer size 256 works for me.. and the most important that helped me was.. going to prefrences then click on cpu and then make sure multicoremultiproccesor support is set to OFF ! ... and plug-in buffer size to As Audio Buffer ... hope it helps ;)
what up man. thanks for the vid! dope set up. whats your take on changing tempos live? bunch of my beats are different tempos and sometimes time signature (12/8). just wondering if its possible or really hard since ableton is more loop based.
Wow! Very nice set. I have a an APC 40 laying on my table collecting dust. I'm not even know how to navigate through Ableton. I do my mixes with my pioneer system, but I would like to evolve into PC and software djing. I also got Trakor Pro 2, but never used it either.
nice vid dude! i have a question... do you have something on the master?? because the loops in ableton need master... and in a live set you cant do it!
thanks man. My friend has been wanting to get one over a mixer. Cool to see someone actually explain a bit I didn't know! Can you still DJ on these? I know you could set up tracks with markers rather than loops, then launch the same way using returns with audio effects still right? Or would you recommend a mixer for djing? Ahhhh so many options _
Cool set man. How long did it take you to make this whole set ? I got asked to play my first gig this weekend, (i have ableton and the apc40) However, I'm not really sure how to create my set with my songs (i have about 5 or 6)
Thanks for this video! I have a question: What happend if I have tracks with different tempos, should I do a different session? or can I include them all?
That was awesome! Thanks for sharing. One question: how do you get the yellow perimeter box in ableton live that seems to control which 8x5 grid of clips your apc40 pads are midi-mapped to? (I have an Akai MPK249 and would like to try and set something similar up with my pads)
thx for a very visually clear tutorial! you mentioned in the beginning of that tutorial how you used APC40 for live performance rather than djing. I understand it now from your video. However can you use the APC40 for a djing tool as well? Passing from one track to another smoothly whilst at the same time benefiting from those live clips you can launch to spice up/remix a track? I keep looking for answers about it on the net before deciding whether I should buy it or not, but can't seem to find any. I am currently djing with traktor S2 which is fun but I feel I want to evolve to the next level and the apc40 seems great to do so. My only concern is as to whether I will be able to do both on an APC40 table ie performance and mixing. Hope I made myself clear. I am kind of novice to the world of production & djing. Thx for your answers!
How about a 30 min set with this cam set up to explain "track" mixing? like if you where to change the tone as if you where mixing tracks.
Is it difficult to star working with Ableton?. Im a FL Studio user but I would love to play Live!!
It really worked for me after I look and try some tutorials, yours is the one that worked. Owe you a lot.
Very nice work, I use the APC 40 for both laser and music producing as well, it's real cool stuff. Maybe I'll buy the APC40 mk2 for music and the older one for working with beyond laserNET. Thanks for sharing.
what i was looking for! THANKS SO MUCH MATE!!!! cheers!

@chutzpah8 Nevermind dude. You've missed the point I's trying to make. My post wasn't about jazz or blues or rap...
@0riginalistic just because you are triggering loops instead of whole tracks does not mean you are performing live.
8u can try having different tracks in differnts decks (a and b, under the mixer) then use the crossfader, hope it helps, cheers
@t1mTV what's wrong ? you ran out of BS ? I thought you'd be more "creative". You give up then... take care.
thats not a skin. there is a shortcut on macs to turn the screen negative. hes got that turned on.
is there any way to switch to a new track smoothly like a dj using this method?
If I purchase the apc40 controller does it also come with abletonclive 8 software?
my personal opinion i would dare to say apple is the biggest scam ever.
Thanks for the knowledge/jams. Wishing ya a great yr!
@azenkwed look dude, you're wrong. accept it and move on.
it would be super sweet if you could provide the project file for this with all the samples ^^
You're missing out. Software, songs? Movies? Albums?

cool plane sample at 1:45, where can i download it?

do you offer a download for the ALS mapping?
how did u get that black screen i like that

how do you set up that yellow grid? And if you move it, does it change the mapping of your controller accordingly?
This shows up automatically when you hook up the apc40, the yellow box lines up with the pads on the apc40
Do you think i can root it on my mpd 32 ?
thanks a lot!!! so nice reverb
Thanks buddy, you're a legend!
Actually it is a custom made skin.

@azenkwed you lose.
To someone using an 8 year old imac with still no problems and really fast speed. I have no idea what your talking about...
Dude this is how i do it not exactly the same set up but all the same shit ..im glad someone else is taking a different approach
Cool set man. How long did it take you to make this whole set ? I got asked to play my first gig this weekend, (i have ableton and the apc40) However, I'm not really sure how to create my set with my songs (i have about 5 or 6)

Hey man how to add 4 fx return channel ? I think 4 fx not enough and add 4 fx total 8 fx return channel how to check in apc 40 is it possible
Thanks for this video! I have a question: What happend if I have tracks with different tempos, should I do a different session? or can I include them all?
He made the skin himself. Click his handle to find the video he made that shows how to make the skin.
no im not a plane
Hi Sean! How do you perform more than one track this way? Is it possible to have up to 10 tracks lined up this way and just keep scrolling down?
“Klinikal Ninja” you can find it through searching Google with that name, along with a bunch of other variations. Sorry for the delayed response!
akaiapc40 com
Ableton Live and *an******** APC40 lol that was driving me crazy. good video though bro lol
how observant.

Thanks for the great video. What are the hihat samples you have on track 3? They sound wonderful!
I am a beginner. I wanted to know how to set up the border around the audio tracks
top!!!
*AN apc 40
thank you
I use the same exact skin! Matched my Alpha Juno 2 and NanoKontrol. Good set up in this video too.
Did you have to make all your audio clips? or does ableton have them built-in?
this is just the normal functionality of both Live's Session View and the APC 40
can i have your apc 40 for a bit cheaper? its like my dream controller right now
lol the airplane in this video was mad buggin sounding like i was in ur room
@edrinamartinez keep it all in one project, just as this video shows.
Great tutorial, thank you very much
*get*
woah thats some nice music and tight sounds, man, i love it
Excellent job on that demotrack man, I was really feeling that.
@doomfaceful opps, hahaha I'm sry for my stupid question :D
where dd you get the samples from ?
To the uploader: what's the synth sample you used at 4.05
nice track, very helpful
that looks more like bitwig rather than ableton
where do i get more color schemes for ableton?
good stuff man! thanks a bunch
@killlagger468 I was doing the exact same thing ;)
you mean the yellow thing around the 5 tracks?
Would really love to know where to get this skin!?
Hey how do I go out and then meet you for a lesson
101 no you don get a bisquit! and neither do i.
how do you change songs when performing live?
those planes must get annoying
group your tracks man, keeps it all organized
4sho..nice setup bro.
Easy On the Eyes I have the same one lol.
