Reviving Bass Strings in a Hot Air Oven

- I've been baking out strings in an oven for a few years already. The result is stunning and lasts for quite some time. As a set of bass strings is expensive, it's worth the effort. Silk wrapping may discolor, but doesn't catch fire. Dirty strings should preferably be cleaned, before treatment in the oven.
COATED STRINGS SHOULD NOT BE TREATED AT THESE TEMPERATURES!
the difference is massive! I like it. I know you've mentioned it to me before.
Yes, I did mention it. It's worth the effort to my opinion.
very interesting idea ...and does sound better..
Treated strings sound as new. They last for half a year at least. 🙂
Stunning...with marvelous background tune.
Treated strings will last for at least another six months.
WoW, Jay!! Superb idea and a cool tutorial! I will, definitely, try it!
Thanks! Try it. The strings sound as new, lasting for quite a while.
Oh yes Jay - I know this this trick - well presented!!! BIG like 👍
I wish you nice week ahead my friend!
Have a great week too!
Jay, that is quite an interesting technique for bringing bass strings back to life, I've never seen that done before! I love that G&L bass.
Nor had I seen this done before. It seemed logical to me that heat treatment could reset metal strings.
Wow!! that is very interesting! You got a hot sound! lol
thanks for sharing! have a great day
Thanks! 🙏 Treated strings last for quite some time.
Nicely done video, Jay! I think I learned something also
Thanks! 🙏 The revived strings last for at least another half year.
That's very interesting challenge!! brother Jay!😯
Thanks mate! Bass strings are seriously expensive over here. This saves me hundreds of $$ a year. 😁
Thanks for the tips
Bravo
You're welcome!
This is a new trick for me. Never heard that oven can be used to clean the strings.
I once tried boiling them. It works, but not for long. After boiling, they last maybe few days and starts to sound like old strings again.
This also resets some hardening, caused by vibration and tension.
Look at us! Over here making how-to videos!
We sometimes do. I like to share knowledge. 🙂
I just slack them, pop them for a bit then tune it back up.
Yours works also.
Works as well, but heat treatment is a longer lasting cure.
When the warning "Do not put in a microwave oven" starts appearing on bass sting packages we know who to blame!
Did you do a physical cleaning of the strings before doing this? I'd think getting any gunk and grime off first would make the process work even better.
🤣
I didn't clean the strings prior to treatment in the oven, as my hands simply are too dry to get the strings dirty. It is, however, recommendable for many. I'll put it in the description. Thanks! 👍
You beat me to it Jay. I have a similar video in the works 😂
I've been reviving bass strings this way for about two years already. 🙂
@@ThunderBassistJay I never knew you could do it this way. Nice 1 man.
roundwound porkchops are great for sure !
🤪😂🤣
@@ThunderBassistJay since a cannot play much how about you be giving a shot at stuff idd pick !!!! , try out : The Renfields - Porkchop :D make it a cover in 3d :D !!!!!
@@staxzdemon I can't play that much either, due to the fucking arthritis. ☹
@@ThunderBassistJay ok I will do it ! :(
I thought you could boil them in water 💦? This is new to me
First of all, my hands are rather dry, so there isn't a lot of gunk. Taking the strings to a higher temperature also resets some hardening, which is the result of tension and vibration.
😁👌🏻
Really works for bass strings. Will work for guitar strings as well, but those aren't as expensive.
Ik wist niet eens dat dat kon 😅
Ik doe dit al zo'n twee jaar. 😄
20👍♥♥Wow !! ♥♥Great presentation, ♥♥Amazing dear brother ♥♥very beautiful , ♥♥wonderful coverage , ♥♥greetings from HONG KONG @richscenic👍🌹🌹🌹🌹🪴🌹🌹🌹🌹
Thanks so much!!! 🙏 Greetings from The Netherlands! 🖐
During communism, when there was nothing for sale here, strings were boiled in water so that they could be used for a long time 😅. The results were amazing.
I didn't know your way. Very interesting 👍🎸😊
Taking the strings to a higher temperature also resets hardening caused by tension and vibration. 😉
Very interesting. Maybe i am gonna try it. I have try to boil it in vater but nothin for me. The sount vas not good after.🤘🇧🇻
@@Thunderbird65 The oven has the advantage of higher temperatures, resetting some hardening of the metal.
@@ThunderBassistJay ok i have to try it.
