Something about the 8-bit tones elevates this to a new level. It’s like you have a moment to breathe, but you’re barely fine and know that there is still more trouble to come. Really strong stuff.
The 8-bit rendition of this track really sounds similar to parts of the Portal 2 OST to me -- especially the ones where you're in abandoned parts of the facility. Good job, Airdorf!
(excuse me if my musical vocabulary is limited) That's because there's a usage of repetitive scales. In Portal 2 the scales are a leitmotif for Old Aperture. If this style of music interests you, I highly suggest listening to Philip Glass.
Not sure if the track itself sets the grim mood or because I've already played through the game. Either way it translates well into 8 bit and is amazing.

I love how it actually sounds so good as an 8-bit version, and it might be because it's kinda similar to how it could sound played on harpsichord, which is a predecessor to a modern piano and fortepiano (the latter being kind of a bridge between harpsichords/clavichords and modern pianos, and the instrument Beethoven actually composed Moonlight Sonata for). I just love that, despite the fact that this piece wasn't composed for harpsichord, it could definitely be played on one during Beethoven's times, and it could very well sound similar to this version.
