Hey, it's me again. I have another problem/question. When I render an animation that's over around 300 frames, and is in the avi format, it just becomes a white screen. Only in avi, this happens. tif and tiff work fine, but I won't be able to upload those files to youtube.Have you had this problem? If you have a solution I would LOVE to know.

Hey again! Actually, I have had some issues with rendering .avi. My solution has been to render in .mov I'm not sure why we are having this issue. Hopefully it will be fixed in the future. Quick question: What version of OpenToonz are you using? I only ask because i have not tried to render in avi since version 1.0.2, so the issue may very well have been fixed in 1.0.3...

I believe I'm using 1.0.2. I've tried to render it in .mov, but I can't find that as an option. Do I have to install something? I would have done it in .mov, but I can't find .mov.

Phil Ray Art Did you have the same problem?

    • @PhilRayArt

Hmm, no, the option has always been there for me in the "Output Settings" dialogue, in the section "File Setting" in the drop-down menu next to name. There is also an "Options" button there. Maybe play around with the settings in there?? Maybe upgrade to 1.0.3?? Maybe try a clean install?? You may want to post your issue on the forums here: groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/opentoonz_en There are a lot of great and helpful people there who know a lot more about this sort of thing than I do.

Phil Ray Art Alright, I'll give that stuff a shot. Though, to get version 1.0.3, how am I supposed to upgrade it? Do I download a new version? Will I lose my animations if I install a new version, and delete the old one? Basically, how do I keep my animation to the newer version?

The animation was really great and I loved the ending :). It definitely is super trippy, but in a good way. My only suggestion for future videos would be to not use licensed music so that you can monetize them or potentially sell them ^_^. I'm sure you know this as it was obviously a labor of love for a friend/family member, but just something to keep in mind. Looking forward to seeing what you can come up with next!

Hey good stuff! I've been using this program too, and I'm pretty impressed and I've learned a lot from your tutorials. I just have a little question, how did you get video 1080p? I have no idea how to do it, and would love to learn. Thanks!

Hey Yemmet! Thanks, I'm glad my vids are helpful :) To set the resolution of the camera, go to "Camera Settings" in the "Xsheet" menu on the menu bar. You can set a Level's resolution in "Level Settings" in the "Level" menu on the menu bar. When you render your final animation, you can set the final output resolution in the "Output Settings" in the "File" menu of the menu bar.
      Hope this answers your question!

Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed my animation!
Creating this took a long time, but the pace picked up as I became confident with the tools and principles.
I'd say that if you really plan out the animation before hand, with storyboards and notes and concept art, getting the creative part of the process done first so you can really focus on production, an animation like this could be done in somewhere between 20 to 30 hours of work time. This would include the time creating your individual shots with OpenToonz (or whatever other animation software you might use), as well as the time spent cutting them together using video editing software, and the time adding all the sound effects/music/etc. And this is also if you really know the programs you are using.
There's no doubt that animation is a time consuming process, but it is incredibly rewarding in many ways. It is incredible drawing practice because of the amount of consistency required, as well as the understanding of gesture and 3d forms and motion it demands. I think you should go for it! it will take time to learn the principles and the software, but it is really worth it to see your drawings come to life.
Good luck and hit me up if you ever need help!

This is really awesome you've done a very well animation work. I love this :D
I made an animation too, using Medibang Paint to draw and then import it to Tupi Animation to animate. I really want to do this kind of workflow (using other software to draw) in Open Toonz . Did you do this too? using Manga Studio then import it to Open Toonz?
Sorry for my bad English :))

Thank you! I'm so glad you like my animation :)
I used Manga Studio for the backgrounds only from what you see in the animation. Though I also use it for roughs and concept work etc...
