As a pro photographer for decades, never use vaseline even on a UV filter its a mess!! Get two UV filters and use clear nail polish. Leave center open about the size of a dime. Make one filter with a round center, the other one an oval. And for best result shoot wide open (lower number f-stop) You can also stretch a pair of stockings over the lens to make a cheap star filter.
Its called using a lens filter, i guess only actual photographers know this considering everyone in this comment section cant stop freaking out over the vaseline, which is the oldest trick in the book...if anything people should be upset that this video wasted their time, cause i thought everybody knew these tricks lol
@@qupation7296 The Vaseline trick was the way we all did soft focus dreamy portraits before the advent of digital cameras & editing software. It doesn't harm the lens as long as you are careful when cleaning it afterwards.
I'm not sure about the matches either, but the detaching is supposed to make it look like someone waking up, or coming out of a dream, when your making a video/film.
“Don’t you dare put Vaseline on my camera lens, if you put your fingers anywhere close to my lens you’re gonna be using that Vaseline on your blackeye for the next three weeks!”
I think that these are probably some of the worst most ridiculous ideas for photo editing I have ever witnessed! I have the Canon EOS M50 and the Canon DS12 Rebel. I would never ever rub vaseline of all things, on my camera! I want to say to anyone watching this(amateur or professional) to never ever rub vaseline on your camera lens! Vaseline is extremely hard to clean off and is meant to be resistant to water, and considering the prices of lenses, I would never risk one of mine, especially a real Canon brand one! And if you really want to blur the edges of your photo, almost any photo/video editing program out there will have that as a choice!
rubbing stuff like Vaseline or oil is a thing some people still do, but you would only do it to a filter over the lens, which is what he seems to have done. What I don't get is why he would not tell the audience this, somebody might ruin their expensive lens instead of a cheap filter because of this advice.
Favorites were the colorful bag and floating lens dream effect, especially since the dream effect is tedious to reproduce in post yet easy to do while filming...nice!
my tripod has the feature of the middle pole slide up and over for a horizontal angle 🤷🏻♀️ I couldn't work out what he was doing 🤣 and if you do try it, be sure to put a heavy weight on the chair, one of those sand filled door stops (cheaply found at kmart/walmart) works a treat.
Another trick you can try is to remove your lens and add a bit of water at your sensor. Then put your lens back, and you will have a lovely blurry effect on your pictures!
I've found that using a boom mic stand works GREAT for the top down tripod effect. With an adapter to convert to a standard 3/8" threaded tip... You can do a lot with a nice boom mic stand.
I use a glass prism and a cd and hold at various angles in front of the lens to get nice effects, also if I’m using a wide aperture on a 50mm lens or more telephoto then you can just push your fingers up into frame from the edge
Thanks for the comments everyone! Just to clarify, I state in the description that this video was inspired by Peter McKinnon, not copied. Fishwire, towel, the light thru stuff and zip lock are the only logical ones everything else is why?especially the vaseline youre ruining a lens that way same with matchstick you could ruin ur glass that way just use a CD reflection for that effect And out in the real world most of these ideas are not really possible
Christopher Gongora Vaseline won’t ruin your lens.... I always do it, and just stick the lens through the dishwasher on a cool wash (without detergent) and it comes out like new...!
@@JakeAndrews7 fasho but theres better ways than putting gunk on it especially when u pay loads for quality glass why damage it in that sense it could also get inside the motors just my 2 cents or use filters for different looks like u said
BRUH>You can't use filters on film cameras, or any camera like this unless it is already built into selectable camera settings! It isn't a smartphone smh. duh! and for a digital camera of this type he'd have to take a lot more effort to upload pictures to a computer and edit them, and that is just a pain in the ass. I do tricks with my camera when I am out and about or just messing around all the time. And they work! Then later I can just enjoy a cool picture and enjoy my creativity rather than having a program do it for me. Instead of editing photos on my computer, I create art and try new things. These are going to work for people who own a similar camera, actual quality cameras, not phones, who want to explore simple art techniques to change up their photography, and I think it's fun, and they are not even that hard.

Aren't there thousands of editing softwares that can add that filter? OR JUST BLUR OUT THE CORNERS WITH PHOTOSHOP!!!!!!!

Then why u can write this comment?!
I would like to use Photo Editor rather than applying Vaseline to my lens.

Yeah so true lol

Vaseline is a pain in the add to get off glass I know from experience

I seriously hate the matchstick/lighter hack. It doesn't look like a flare at all, it just looks like you're holding a flame up to your lense!!

I not quite sure what the hack are for. For example the burning match idea, detaching lens.. the effect was roughly introduced and result skipped.
