Headshots every time. No lanyard to shut the boat off if he falls out. Dude is like Poseidon's little son running around on top of the ocean on his mechanical horse.
Done alot of fishing in my life. I've never seen anything like this. I'd love to try it for myself. No nets. No rod and reel means no monofilament breaking off and adding more plastic into the sea. Snapped fishing line also becomes an issue for sea birds. This method is very sustainable. This dude is obviously a master of his craft. Headshots every time. Simply amazing imho.
Beautiful documentary! I live in Florida, and have the same view, not as blue water as that, but still tropical, and seeing stuff like this makes me appreciate where I live. This guy is on another level though. Good stuff!! Beautiful people!
Crazy why the fish doesn’t just go deep to evade danger but that said, this guys skills are truly incredible. I’ve sat out on high tech deep sea fishing boats with $1000’s of dollars of fishing tackle for hours and hours and caught fuck all yet just give this guy a broom handle, some sharp barbed spears and a cheap yet fast small boat and he’s in his element putting people like me to shame. Got to take my hat off to this guy.
As a former ships agent I witnessed big outfits( Korean long liners)unloading ship to ship in Panama hundreds of Mahi Mahi and shark ,frozen, partially cleaned gutted and tails heads removed and strung together in batches of 6-8 by the tail with nylon cord and that was fifity years ago its hard to imagine how these fish will ever recover from us fishing them no matter the method.
@@williamkane6155 hearing these things are heartbreaking, don’t suppose we’ll ever know the full magnitude of the damage caused until it’s too late too. Also it’s disheartening to think that out of all the fish you saw dead probably only al small percentage of them actually ended up consumed after they have been processed etc! Only take from the ocean what you need doesn’t apply anymore when there’s a high profit to be made!
@@williamanderson784 I didn’t ask why they didn’t go deep as I watched the documentary just as you did, I just said it’s crazy why they don’t go deep! Read peoples comments properly before thinking you’re a smart arse🤣
He handled that boat like it was breathing.. wow. What an AMAZING way to live life!! Wow! That gorgeous water and beaches all around, doing something fun and enjoyable for a job!!? Cannot get any better than that. If i didnt have family, thats where id be. Either that or the extreme opposite Alaska! Both are absolutely beautiful and allow someone to really live life instead of working a slave job making someone else rich.
One of my dreams is to put together a documentary as well one day! And if I want to do a brilliant job, first thing to do is to watch yours! Happy to be here, hugs from Italy!
Wow, Guy is a total cowboy! Great narration and filming as always. What year was this filmed and what did you all use to stabilize the footage on Guy's boat? The Perfect Horizon tripod? Since watching your fishing docs, you've inspired me to film the commercial fisheries that are in my own backyard of the Florida Keys. I'd love to chat with you all about your filming and narration process because after filming the spiny lobster boat I was just on, it's hard work capturing it all! What a fascinating industry that not many people talk about these days. Thanks for all of your hard work and dedication 🙌
I ❤ the flesh of this Dolphin looking fish...Had a delicatsen fish (mahimahi) n chips @ Amoa resort in Savaii Island, Samoa 🇼🇸 It was sooooo deliciouse that the 7 days we were there this was my Dinner plate every night. Very delicious fish 🐟
He definitely has talent. It's hard enough just to harpoon the fish without having to worry about operating the boat. However, this is the most inefficient way to catch Mahi Mahi. Ask anyone who fishes for them and they will tell you the same. Using hook and line either with a hand line or with a rod reel is much faster. This is because when one fish is hooked it's pulled close to and left in the water. This keeps the other fish close and they can easily be caught as well. During this time the engine is left idling or can be turned off. Catching a 50 fish limit can sometimes happen in less than an hour. The harpoon also does a lot of damage resulting in less usable meat. The boat he uses is well made but because he has to ride in the front creating an extremely rough ride. In foul weather, it is more dangerous than riding in the middle or further towards the stern. With a center console, you can use a tuna tower to get higher up off the water. This allows for a much better vantage point to see further. Racing after each fish all day will result in using 2x to 4x more fuel than used when fishing with hook and line. While it's an amazing skill it wastes valuable fuel, wastes the meat, wastes time, is more painful, and is much more dangerous.
He was whipping that boat like nothing all while handling the speed and focusing on the fish! My respects to this man! Now that's an honest living
Love you too

@@seanfenwick I did not catch the year this video was made. If it’s 25 years old, that’s some impressive stabilization.
superb documentaary.21.10.2021.

The mahi mahi is a beautiful fish. And it's the saddest thing to watch when you pull it out of the ocean. The way it changes colour as it dies 😢
It's a very sad doc

I LIKE THIS VIDS....
what if you put the throttle on the stick, so your other hand is free to hold the harpoon?
I was thinking the Exact same thing man!
It's that Yamaha engine, that's why. He couldn't do that with a Chevy.
Now Thats what i called chasing fish✌🏽👏👍🏼🤘🏼
Fascinating
They're also talented in music.
Does anyone know when this was made? I could have sworn I’ve seen it on TV years ago

He’s a master of his craft for sure he could drive with his eyes closed
Badass!
The accelerator can be transferred to be controlled with the leg..so he has free hand to hold the harpoon...impressive way to fish 🐟 😀
Those of you who have never had fresh mahi mahi don't know what you are missing.
RESPECT..
So much for the future of the fish maimai. It has become a sport, a way to subvert.
