    Excellent info. Recently freeze dried some grapes and they needed more time. Wasn't sure how to carry that out, once I took the grapes out to sample them.

    I added 10 hours of extra dry time. I hardly ever use it all, but it works great for my sleep or when I have to leave and it is not in the dry cycle yet, I know that I have at least 10 hours to return before it is done. Thanks for sharing.

      I used to add 10 hours of freeze drying time come up at now it switches back to only 2 hours and things aren't dry all the way. I've also recently started having to add my pump type each time I dry.

      @@Irish-Triplet You should contact HR and let them know this. I would bet it is an easy fix with a software update/thumb drive. I had issues with my FD six months ago and HR was very helpful and sent me an update to install. It fixed it and no issues since, assuming that your FD is a Harvest Right

      @@misterp158 Thanks, I have an update in my email from them for a previous problem. For some reason, my freeze dryer wouldn't update with it. I may need a new thumb drive to do it with. I was able to get it up and running again ( it was a vacuum leak that we wrapped the clear tubing and brass fittings with silicone tape.) However, now my settings don't "stick ". So even though I have it set to zero degrees, 10 hour extra dry time and premier pump. It freezes to -17, only 2 hours of dry time and stops and asks EVERY time what pump I have. Very strange. I'll try the update on a new thumb drive and see if it fixes the issues.
      Thanks for your speedy comment!

      @@Irish-Triplet just an FYI Harvest right recommends using a 16GB or smaller thumb drive.

    Just a tip I use when I know my food still has some moisture in it: put it in the fridge for a while so that the water soaks equally throughout, then put back in the freeze dryer. That way if your foods too thick you can be sure there isn't a concentrated bit of ice in the middle.

    My wife and I just got a freeze dryer and we did a batch of strawberries and they came out and there were a couple that still were cold, but we already pressed the defrost mode. What do we do? We decided just to vacuum pack everything because it felt like we didn’t have enough time with the humidity in the air.

    • @gardeningsimplified
      @gardeningsimplified  Рік тому

      If you vacuum packed them with the extra moisture they will need to be stored in the freezer to keep from spoiling. If you use a scale and weigh your trays then add 2 hours extra dry time, then see if they weigh the same after complete. This will insure that they are completely dried.

      Thank you for the tip! There was just a couple pieces that were cold but very small and I didn’t know what to do, I actually didn’t realize I could have added dry time before pressing defrost. Now I know. Do you think I would be OK for at least three months or something I mean there’s really not that many that were very cold at all. It was very small at the bottom. I think I over packed the trays.

      Do you lose anything by freezing them in the vacuum pack bags?

    • @gardeningsimplified
      @gardeningsimplified  Рік тому

      @@abrammatthew756 Anytime there's extra moisture you can have spoilage at room temperature. Freeze them will not affect your product, it will just assure that it stays fresh until you use them.

      Thank you so much for the information. Is there any loss of anything when you freeze? Other than just a space in your freezer? How would you use it when you want to. Appreciate the information.

    • @gardeningsimplified

      The reason would be that the drying time can very greatly do to machine size, different tray loads, and room temperature.

    Can I add more dry time once the current drying cycle has started?

    • @gardeningsimplified
      @gardeningsimplified  4 місяці тому

      Once it gets to the extra dry time stage, you have to ability to add more dry time using the up arrow on the display screen.

    I accidentally cancelled by FD instead of adding more dry time. Is there a way to fix without restarting?

    • @gardeningsimplified

      There's no way to fix it that I'm aware of.

    • @misterp158
      @misterp158 Рік тому

      If you hit cancel during a final dry, it should just go to the "more dry" time screen so then just add more time, if you are not in the final dry cycle, it will cancel the run and so then restart like a new load and it will quickly catch to where it was,

    • @gardeningsimplified

      Once it finishes the extra dry time, it stops warming up the tray rack,and continues freezing the chamber until you end the process.

      @gardeningsimplified if you added dry time to food, came back later hours later and the chamber is cold, would you warm trays/add dry time etc? That was on heck of a run on sentence lol. New to freeze drying. Hope you understand my rambling question.

    does the dryer know how long to dry when you start drying

    • @gardeningsimplified
      @gardeningsimplified  Рік тому

      The freeze dryer start
      starts drying once the present parameters are met. The added dry time is in addition to the initial dry time. This is to insure that whatever you're freeze drying is down to an acceptable moisture level.
