My channel is about making farm life and the gardening process simpler. I believe that the more you know about how things grow, the easier it is to grow them. .
I show regular garden tours and update, to show the progression that my garden has gone through, and my successes and failures.
You can expect to see information on growing plants from seed to harvest, seed saving, preserving harvest, and anything else garden related. Also, you can expect helpful hands-on projects, and farm and homesteading information.

Kenny, Thank you for your great video on growing potato slips. You are a wealth of information ! This is the best video I have seen on this. Sylvia
@@SylviaZarilla-nj9sh You're welcome.
I grew my own turmeric this year and thought i got a lot, but, your sure did grown tons! That's great to see it all powdered up like that. I'm hoping to grow more next year. I'd love to hear how you drink your turmeric every morning.
I love cabbage and have not thought of freeze-drying it. How will you use the FD cabbage in addition to soup?
We'll use it in stir-friies too.
The only time I exchange a tank is when my local propane guy tells me my tank is getting old😂😂😂😂😂
If your way out of the zone grafting helps a lot, and some places (wet ) make diseases prosper over the plants. It depends on the situation if a graft or cutting grows better
In my experience, curently growing cuttings root the best, dont matter how big, as long as its within the growth period, hardwood dont root as easy but some(mulberry)root incredibly fast and easy even as hardwood
Check the gallons they put in. They don't weigh them anymore
They still weigh them here when filling them, but they charge the same if it's empty or still has some propane in it.
Trigonometry
Its only $11.80 at the local hardware for 20# refill or $5.99 for the little 1lb tank
Just like a bag of potato chips
What temp for herbs? Been doing this since 2017 - but this new software is strange
@@marilynweber7957 I do mine at 105 degrees.
That tank holds 3.5 gallons of propane, which costs about 3.00 to 3.75 a gallon when you fill them. So $15 to $18.
@@punkagrrlzero A 20 pound bottle holds about 4.6 gallons. Propane weights 4.2 pounds per gallon.
I live on the country & for years I have been filling my own off my 500 gallon tank. Much cheaper
Yes, you misspoke and they are 20lb tanks and yes having them filled is best because the exchange tanks are 20lb tanks with only 15lbs of propane in them! Thanks for the milk crate tip, if you can find one nowadays!😁😁😁
The measurement is gallons, not pounds. Those tanks hold 3.5 GALLONS.
@@punkagrrlzero the blue rhino label says 15 pounds.
Amazon
I went to a commercial place here in Texas and they charged me some kind of fee also?? They wouldn't put them in my car, said it had to be like an open bed like a pickup truck!😲Put them in myself and left the windows down! I have to drive further but I will get it from my farm and feed store next time! 😲
My farm and feed won’t fill them. Nobody will other than on Rv park 15-20 minutes away. I might have to try the next town over. They won’t fill them because insurance. The coop will fill 30lb and up cylinders but not 20lb
I have never noticed that it said the weight on that plastic sleeve around the tank. To be honest the only time I use the tank swap out is when I have a tank that cannot be filled because of its age. They don't care so I just swap out a tank and I have something that can be filled again. Here in Michigan right now it's $14 to refill a tank, except on Wednesdays it's propane day at one place and it's $12
My propane dealer doesn't charge me when they recertify my bottle. I realized I called it a 25 pound bottle instead and a 20 pound.
The only time it seems to happen that I need a tank that needs to be certified I'm in a small town and no one around to do it. But I will check with my dealer next time. As far as what you said the size of the tank, it's obvious you know what you're talking about, and you just misspoke. Thanks for the video it was good a lot of people do not understand things and you got a little bit of information to them
Wow, it was $19 to refill in Texas back this summer!😲😲 Cheapest tank new I can find is $70🤬🤬
@@wallychambe1587 yeah I'm lucky the price has been down up here, but the price of the empty tanks are insane
@@MichiganHiker Last time I looked, $70!😲😲😲
😂 papaya caviar😂 wow, fruit after one year? Maybe i should try this under grow lights?👍
Nice update. I came to enjoy your garden as mine is done for the year and under a bit of snow😢. ❤😊🇨🇦🙏
I love the snow covered views, but it definitely puts an end to a gardening season.
Awww you do have a lot of issues with your different grasses that we don't have to deal with up here in Canada. There is a short weed that has roots that can go down about Two to four feet. Nothing survives around it as we found out so we're working to make sure it doesn't go near our garden areas. But to lose all that potential sweet potato harvest is so sad. Hope your plan works out. May the Lord bless your garden and family this year.❤😊🇨🇦🙏
We used to go get ours filled but last time we did it started hissing in the trunk and we got so worried that we called the fire department. We were in a shopping parking lot. They took it away for us so we never found out what was wrong. So this year my son bought a tank already filled and week probably just exchange it. Might be a safer option for us. Great tip though.❤😊🇨🇦🙏
I had one start hissing back when we use to full-time RV. The outside temperature was 117 degrees, and the full tank was relieving pressure. I just cooled it down with some water, and everything was fine. If I was to guess, the extra heat from being in the trunk caused it to open the pressure release. That's why they don't recommend storing them in direct sunlight. In Texas they fill them by weight, but when we traveled thru Canada they would open the bleeder vent and fill them until propane started to vent. That old method is why new tanks come with a shutoff float. When properly filled it leaves the necessary space for temperature expansion.
It might have been over filled and with a lot of heat the relief valve was going off!😲😲
@@gardeningsimplified thank you so much for this detailed explanation. It's nice to know we have that option still.
Excellent video. Enjoyed it. What is your name and what state are you in? I live in Parks Ar and I have kale, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, beets, turnip greens, mustard greens, onions, spinach, carrots and radishes growing. I head up our local garden club in Waldron Ar.
My name is Kinney and I live near Henderson, TX.
What will happen if the electric supply is interrupted,
After a few minutes the unit would resume as normal, and complete the process. It has a counter on the lower left of the screen showing how many times the power went off.
Great content! Appreciate your candid thoughts.
I am interested in seeing the roselle when it comes our of the freeze dryer. I usually dehydrate roselle & want to see the difference. Also would like to see what else you freeze dry out of the garden. Thanks fir your efforts.🌿
Freeze dried Roselle is far superior to dehydrated, because the cell structure is broken down during the drying process. When it is made into a tea, etc in releases more of the flavor. If you want to see some of the other things that freeze dry, I have play list for freeze drying on my UA-cam channel.
@gardeningsimplified thank you for the response. I will look more closely at your UA-cam playlist. I enjoy your content especially since I'm in N TX also.
Papaya! Nice. How long do you think it will be before the fruit grows? I'm asking because it seems like you have a green thumb and your lemon trees grew a lot faster than mine. I gave up on them 😢.
Information says that they can produce fruit in seven months. I guess I'll find out.
How many hours in the machine total did it take to freeze dry that batch? Thanks
I never pay attention to how long it takes, because there are too many factors that can shorten or lengthen the time.
Good great, bet they taste yummy too
Perfect! Im picking mine tomorrow!
I never saw updates on those Peach cuttings. Did they ever work out??
@@joshua511 I gave the update in the garden updates. It was a failure.
Sir your contact number I'm Indian farming
Sir how is it marked
I needed this info for sure but I have another question. I added 8 hours in the beginning which was more than enough to get me to when it was convenient for me to complete but when I went to test the trays, I hit the 00 dry time, opened the valve and the door would not open. I had to go ahead and hit cancel and then the door opened. Seemed like the pressure inside was still too strong. Fortunately all was completely dry. Not sure what happened.
That does sound strange indeed.
It is nearly impossible to root apple cuttings. Take a lot, give it a try, but don't expect any roots.
I didn't have much success with mine. Very few rooted.
Nothings growing here in New Hampshire!
I would have a hard time living in an area that I couldn't garden in the Winter.
Плохая идея. Персик очень плохо укореняется. Только прививать.
what freeze temp?

Thank you so much. I’m trying to do my first Fall/winter garden and was upset that my germination ratio was incredibly low (did direct sow). I figured I was out of luck. But maybe I can try again with more broccoli and cabbage? I’m in 7b\8a. I do seem to have 1 outrageously healthy turnip.
I have never commented on a UA-cam video, but sir, you have my respect! I have had my medium size machine for just under a year now. I love it! ... when it works. June and July were a bust (right during a big harvest) while the vacuum pump would not achieve a seal. I refused to take the machine apart like the tech instructed me, but I stayed calm. No ranting. :) I did do numerous other tests and tasks, however. They sent a new gasket. That made no difference. They eventually sent a new vacuum pump. After that, it began to work well. Until about 2 weeks ago. Same problem. I am currently working with a tech who has sent me a video where I am to take apart the machine and do leak tests. He says the data I've sent shows a significant leak somewhere. I have watched the video once, and expect in the next few days to have enough time (fingers crossed) to take it apart. But I'm frustrated as it's still under warranty, and as you say, I am acting as the technician. I am not as well versed as you are, but your video has given me such hope! My next step will be to put all the emails and downloaded files from the machine into one file. Thank you for your super helpful, instructive video.
You're very welcome. I normally don't like to rant about how a company handles there product issues, but I thought it needed to be addressed. I can say, that both of my new units have been virtually problem free. I had to replace the main power switch on one unit after it was out of its warranty period. I hope you have good luck in getting yours operating properly. I'm still not recommending Harvest Right, because of their customer support. I do enjoy mine now that I have properly working machines, but they definitely have a customer support problem.
Great job! Thanks
It's vacuum sealing and freezing
We didn’t plant them this year. They were left over from some tubers that we missed last year. They grew 12+ feet tall. I guess we ought to harvest them now. We’re on the Oregon Coast. Thanks for your video. If you google the health benefits, there are quite a few.
That’s a lot of onions. Hope you had a fantastic harvest.
thank you for all your videos. THEY ARE SO HELPFUL! I feel like I understand now how to make mine work better. THANK YOU

The best time I think to propagate, and get the fastest results, is when the tree begins to bud. I find that they seem to root quicker. The product I use for the fungal gnat infestation was BTI powder. You can also use Mosquito Bits Insecticide.
Hi, I am Mumtaz from Pakistan. I saw your video. Good effort but tell me best season to propagate cuttings. As you mentioned some infestation in this practice and you also stated in a repply to some one about some amendment (infection treatment) .What was the result of treatment and stuff used to treat infection .Thanks Waiting repply from u.
Hi Mumtaz, this man is from the deep south and they HATE middle easterns. Next time just ask the simple question dont involve identity into it, keep thta in mind ;) Best time is winter time when dormant. Infections are related to too much water and moisturous soil composition, no treatment needed, if it gets sick - throw it away and get a new one.
Found this video when trying to clean my standard pump. I have a bunch of 'dirt' in the window showing the level - how do I clean that out? should I clean the rest, let it run, and then dump out the oil?
I used brake cleaner from the auto parts store to clean the sight glass.
