It WAS Elliott that helped him get his memory back, in the old Disney story book version of Pete's dragon, there's a page after he's told to remember Paul's face, he ends up locating him and sneaks into the hospital he's staying at, finds out he has amnesia, then figures another bump on the head will help him, Elliott then proceeds to flip his bed and Paul bounces his head off the floor gaining his memories back, seeing that it worked, Elliott then quickly leaves the hospital and flies back to his cave. The book then continues on with story like the movie normally.
I remember I cried when I first saw this movie with my family at the end when Elliot had to leave Pete. I wished he could have stayed with Pete forever. Now that I am a grown man I realize Elliot had a mission. He had to free Pete from the evil gogans, get rid of Dr. Terminus and hoagy, end Dr. Terminus's scamming business, find a way to have Paul return to Nora, become a hero to the town, and find Pete a family who love him and don't abuse him. Now that Elliot's work is done Pete does not really need him anymore.
I always felt emotional about that moment, too. Pete had to understand that he was probably not the first troubled child whom Elliot came to. His purpose is to find children in trouble, give them a better life, and once that's done, he moves on to find another child in need. I always thought the recent remake could have some kind of mention of a former boy named Pete from the turn of the century (1900s) whom he helped.
@@KeiFox - The biggest mistake was making Pete's Dragon into a reboot instead of a sequel called Elliot, about Elliot helping another child. Pete's Dragon was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Now that I'm a working adult, my job is to help children in the court system. I like to think I grew up to be like Elliot. I help a child get into a better place and then I move on to help the next child. I recently worked on a case for almost a year. When I started, the children in the family were scared and sad. The day I left, they were all smiling and laughing. It was amazing to see the transformation that took months in the making.
This is one of the 3 Disney movies I watched most frequently as a kid, the other 2 were Mary Poppins and Bedknobs And Broomsticks. Funny how there’s a Paul in this movie and Bedknobs And Broomsticks. There’s no Paul in Mary Poppins, however Saint Paul’s Cathedral is mentioned in one of the songs. And I love the way how they combine live action and animation together in all 3 movies.
I think it’s hilarious that the mayor gets his cigar squashed several times and can’t just enjoy it. The guys with the eggs smashed into his face, he falls off from the house face first as the steps are pulled away by Doc Terminus’ out of control wagon and then this time. 🤣🤣

Bedknobs and Broomsticks was my JAM. I also watched this and Mary Poppins a lot too but not as much.
