This was my all time favorite Disney movie when I was an Adolescent. This song and the song “It’s not easy” with Helen Reddy and Sean Marshall are still two of my most endearing memories from my late childhood. I’d sing It’s not easy to my own kid and grandkids over and over. And R.I.P Helen Reddy, Mickey Rooney and Shelly Winters. Irreplaceable.
I went loads times to see Petes Dragon at my local cinema. I had the movie soundtrack with all the songs on it. Sadly the cinema was closed and demolished but the cinema held a lot of fond memories for me. Pete's Dragon was not my favorite of Disney's movie list. But I have grown to really appreciate the heck out of it. I never seen the remake version of it, nor do I feel tempted to. The magic of the original cannot be recreated.
I felt the same way you did, until I watched it. It's actually quite good. The story does take a slight dark turn at one point which caught me off guard, but it wasn't anything that I'd say tarnished the legacy of the original. Worth a watch, even if only once.
A lovely musical number, imaginatively filmed and sung by Helen Reddy, Mickey Rooney and Sean Marshall. The clever choreography was by Onna White who’d won an Oscar for her work on OLIVER!
