I remember the butt roasts being 79 cents a lb as a good deal. The other day, it was probably 1.99 per lb. I just waited until it was a loss leader and got some butt roasts for 99 cents a lb. The deals can still be had, it just seems that they are fewer and farther between.

I like your mashed potato tip! I do the exact same more with the kids-they can make noodles side dishes so I’ll buy the easy stuff so they are able to help out, they love helping too. It’s always why I buy brownie/cake mixes too. Not only easy desserts they can help with but gets them excited to bake/cook and gives them lots of practice. If they don’t make an 88 cent cake mix perfect, no biggie and they’ll still eat anyway. Lol. Great video!

Ok 8 ounce bottles glass recommend 4-8 vanilla beans per bottle depending on whether you want single- or double-fold vanilla extract and then fill bottle to makeup the 8 ounces. So if you are doing larger batches figure from there for 8 ounces on. Time is 6 to 12 month’s minimum depending on strength and some people go up to 2 years for more quality and smoother variety of flavor in the vanilla. With a larger batch you can date bottles and keep track and taste test as you go and see what you like. Also seems to be variances in the flavors of where your vanilla beans come from. Madagascar being the favorite! Hope this helps!

Just a tip on the vodka, if you didn't purchase it at a liquor store its diluted. Check the alcohol percentage. That could be why it didn't work out the first time as well as not letting it sit long enough.

Hi Jennifer, I make my own vanilla and I let it sit in a dark cupboard for months, the first time I made it it also wasn’t the flavor I was looking for, so I let it sit for six months it was better. I also turn my jar daily the first month then once a week for six weeks then now whenever I open my cupboard I give the jar a turn, good luck! I’ve also made Kahlua for Christmas presents❤️ have a beautiful blessed week!

I bought a silicone popcorn maker for the microwave and I wish I bought it a long time ago. You don’t need any oil to make it (although I use an oil spritzer to allow the flavacol seasoning to stick to the popcorn after). Search for the bowl and flavacol popcorn seasoning (what they use in microwave popcorn bags)!

I think depending on your ratio on vanilla beans to vodka it could take longer. My single fold steeped for 2 years and wasn't as good as I wanted but my Madagascar double fold was ready in 6 months. I left it in the jar for 18 months before I poured it off and added new vodka.

TO MAKE PURE VANILLA EXTRACT: I was taught 25 years ago by a man who owned an extract company, home brewing is a little different and takes longer than commercial company would, trust me I know of which I speak and I make gallons every year.
    1. alcohol, vodka for the best extraction, 70 proof/ 35% alcohol, higher alcohol content is ok, but not to high, and yes the brand of alcohol does make a difference, use what you would drink
    2. dark colored bottles are best, with tight fitting lid or swing top
    3. Sterilize everything, including a small pair of scissors with a pointed end
    4. Weigh your beans, for a single extract (FDA guidelines) 13.35 ounces per gallon, single fold or 0.83 per one cup of alcohol, it is best to use 1 ounce of beans per 1 cup of alcohol. Don't listen to the ones that tell you put 4-5 beans in several cups of alcohol, you are only making vanilla flavored alcohol, you have to weigh the beans. If you want a 2 or 3 fold extract double/triple the bean weight but not the liquid
    5. Split the beans down the middle, (scissors make this easy and faster) and cut into 1 inch pieces, no need to scrap the pods, the beans must always be submerged in alcohol, they can get a nasty mold, even in alcohol if not fully submerged.
    6. Cover with alcohol, cap bottle and shake well.
    7. leave on your counter for 1 week, giving it a good shake every time you see it
    8. After a week place in a dark cupboard, make sure it is not to cold or it will not extract well around 65 degrees.
    9. Take it out once a week and give it a good shake.
    10. Now comes the hard part, patience, 1 year is best.
    11. Use straight from the bottle if you like the flecks in or strain the extract. Don't re-use the beans to make more, they have extracted all they can, dry them if you want and put them in sugar to make vanilla sugar.
Any questions let me know. Good luck.

Almost sure the graham crackers were the same price before and I was surprised to see them different prices too but nothing should be surprising at this point. Prices are crazy and I am just trying to keep enough food in the house and stay somewhere close to budget. Vanilla takes 6 months to a year depending on the number of beans. I am adding it to my list to make too since vanilla is so expensive. Good luck!

I made two batches of vanilla I saw where one person said you should let it sit for a year. One said if you put it in the Sous Vide at 130 degrees it would cut that it half???? Figure by the time I use what I have a year will probably be up anyway. Saw at Sam's Club their 12.98 bottle is now reduced to 7.98.

I was thinking today, I wonder if they are still going swimming? As long as it is hot out, you can. I never did go swimming this year. There is an indoor pool in town, too. Are you ready for Fall? I know you love the hot weather! At the end of each Season, I am ready for the next one. I Love fall and the smell of falling leaves, crisp and cool weather, fresh picked apples, Apple cider apple butter, pumpkin pie, to name a few. I love winter! I love Christmas! My favorite day of the Year! Peppermint. Cherry candy canes, warm jammies, Christmas tree scent, buying gifts for family and friends and
Loved ones, watching Christmas movies, Christmas Hymns and Carols, jingle bell necklaces, Christmas earrings! I love the ones you wore that you said you've had since the 90's. Awesome! I Love to make snow Angels and take walks in the snow during winter. I Love how quiet it is after a good snow! Well, I could go on, but I won't! Lol! I am known for my long letters. I thought about starting a blog or vlog, Kate's Random thoughts! Have a Beautiful and Blessed weekend!!
