- How to create a flat design vector avocado in Adobe Illustrator for beginners.
In this simple, easy and short tutorial, I will teach you how to turn any sketch into a simple vector ready for print. This is how stickers, logos and more are created.
You will learn how to outline your illustration using shapes, pen tool, shape builder and curvature tools. You will then see how I colour in the illustration using my simple and easy base colour and adding shadows and highlights method.
Steps.
1. Import sketch into Illustrator
2. Create outlines with strokes.
3. Colour in the outlines on a new layer beneath the outline.
4. Apply your shadows and highlights to complete the illustration.

Been using Illustrator for years now, and just thought I would for fun look at what tutorials are found here on youtube. Boy am I glad I did, I have never realized I could use the width tool to change up stroke withs in individual anchor points! Great video, cute avocado :)

Great tutorial. Thanks for making it. One question I had is what's the difference between making strokes into shape and just using the strokes themselves as outlines while they are strokes?
Well, I'm not completely sure, but I believe its easier to colour it. Like it its a shape you just need do select and choose a color, meanwhile if they are outlines you need to use the pen to select and colour it.

Best way is to check out other artist and see what combos you like. And take the colours :)

use photos of actual fruits or things you want to draw.
hmmm... where is option or key - delete the outermost shape-
Alt or Option keys on your keyboard. It depends on whether u have a Mac or PC of course :)
Hi, i like ur videos but i get frustrated i dont know whats wrong. @4:42 When i clicked unite, it does not work like yours. I couldnt click the inner small circle and the line before the back of avocado. :( btw, I subscribed! :)
Hmm. Did you try ungrouping and releasing the compound paths? You can also check to see if the circle is behind everything and bring it to front :)

While you're clearly great at this, i don't understand why you add color the way you do. It's so tedious. Why not just turn everything into its own shaped using the shape builder then add color to those new shapes? Way easier and also way easier to edit later on. Your way is very unnecessary to me.
Although it is way easier.
Im trying to show that there are different ways to go about it. Some people don't quiet understand the shape builder like you and I do. So this may be tedious and longer. But easier to grasp :)
