    I understand the 1 part to 20 parts measurement for all those that feel the need to say that it's "basic math." What I didn't understand in my brain was how someone would measure that out in watering because I'm not going back and forth from my sink with 20 parts of water separately because that's a waste of my time. The website said 6.4 oz to 1 gallon which makes a lot more sense in terms of measuring it out to water your plants. So not sure why that wasn't written out on the bottle.
    Also, if you still feel the need to be rude in 2024 on someone's page that you don't even know then you're getting blocked.

    1:20 is as much as you want - so like 2 oz of that to 40 oz of water, as an example.

    You can read hundreds of pages about taking care of plants and that sure does its part but watching your videos first of all gives me so much peace of mind but secondly also helps me so much with growing knowledge on how to take good care of all of my own plants. I started getting a lot last summer and a lot of them died, i was able to safe and rehab some of them by following simple tips but i completely screwed up in taking care. I used to much of everything, but thats how you learn and its so damn beautiful to see all of them vibing and growing now that ive gotten a tiny feel for it, also seeing a sick plant starting growing new leaves after months of healing and not doing to much growing at all is the best feeling in the world :) Thanks for the videos

      thanks :) my plants sometimes feel as good as i do so if i had a rough patch in the beginnig the plants wouldnt get as much attention and care or sometimes i would overwater some and overfertilize but i realized some months ago that in order to get out of a rough patch i really just need to take real good care of my plants, cause my entire mood swifts when im sitting in my room with healthy and happy growing plants. Im wishing you a lot of fun with being a plant mom :) and our plants sure are only going to get bigger and happier, the first mistakes are always necessary @@dora9368

      Aw thank you 🥹 it makes me so happy to be able to help! I’ve definitely been there before and many plants didn’t make it. I had no idea what I was doing in the beginning. I took to UA-cam to listen to others and how they were caring for their plants and it helped so much! I think having to rehab plants and having setbacks makes you learn the most with them! It’s such a joy to see them come back 🥹

    I’ve heard that tree fern fiber is really good to mix with perlite for baby seedlings and props! It doesn’t turn mucky and compacted like coco coir and it stays damp, yet very fluffy at the same time. ❤

    Hi, Melissa and happy new year to you and 😺😺😺! I have 3 cats also. ☺️. I will continue to watch your videos and thank you for sharing with us! About part: part means one equal part. One part is not an exact measurement. It’s a relative measurement. That means one part changes relative to each recipe that calls for it. It can be a teaspoon, an ounce, a cup, or anything else. 🙂 ❤️

    11:19 zu anwer your question: For example you use 1ml you have to mix it with 20ml water. If you use 5ml of this enhancer, you have to use 5 times more of water so 100 ml water. The proportion have to be the same.

    I absolutely love using tree fern with my plants. I mix mine with orchiata and chunky perlite and I use that mix instead of moss for my seedlings and they love it. I also make a tree fern fibre soil mix that I use on my philodendrons and my anthurium and they both love it. If you mix it with other amendments it makes the tree fern go a little further. The roots on my plants absolutely love it.
    I hope it works out well for you too!

    Happy New Year and hello from NZ the Home of tree fern fibre 🤗 It’s expensive here too but I love love love it. I use it pure for propagation where it performs amazingly. Hardly use anything else for propping anymore. I also reuse it when one plant is finished propping and just store it separately. Ive also recently started adding mycorrhizal fungi to the fern when propping and it speeds up the rooting process even more. Seriously impressed. Fern is also the base of my soil mix. I mainly collect Hoya, anthuriums and alocasia and they all love it. Hope that helps and have fun experimenting with it. I bet you’ll be convinced.

    • @i.foliage
      @i.foliage 7 місяців тому +3

      I also wanted to share why it is so expensive even here in NZ where it comes from. One needs to have a license from the government for commercially harvesting fern trees which is not the expensive part but I think there may only be one company that has got one. What it comes down to is sustainability. The fern tree is harvested with sustainability at the forefront. When they go in to select which trees to harvest, they only take a certain number out of a group of trees to ensure that what remains will continue to grow. So they may just select 1 in a group of 5. And when it comes to getting them out of the dense forest, they do not go in with heavy logging trucks that destroy the forest but instead they collected via helicopter to ensure the forest remains as untouched as possible. I think that’s a beautiful story to tell 😃

    i love the marphyl soil enhancer! its great because its safe to use with my orchids, plants in leca, and all other household plants. and they really do seem to like it. i use 1 cap full for my 1.2L watering can. it seems to do well but you can adjust to your liking id think.
    1 part to 20 parts just means 1 part of any measuring system. so if you were to use tbsp, 1tbsp of enhancer for every 20tbsp of water. or 1/4c enhancee to ever for every 5c of water.

    Enjoyed the video as always. I cut away plastic pots as a matter of course when I repot and the roots are growing through the base. I’ve even purposely broken the occasional (that I don’t want to keep) ceramic pot to free the plant when roots are growing through the drainage holes. Hi Melissa, love the video. ❤ Happy new year to you and your family and cats. 🎉😊I just wanted to ask a question about the pon. Once you fill the pon up with the plant, do you just put a bit of water on the bottom in those self watering containers? Or How do you know how far to fill it? Does that water meter in the pot show at what level you fill it too? I was thinking to order some of these self watering containers and I thought maybe in your videos you would be able to show us how those work? I have never used these pots. ThankYou so much..I learn so much from you..❤❤

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  7 місяців тому

      Thank you! Happy new year! Some people suggest not to fill it up all the way initially to help reduce any rotting I guess. I usually fill it up in between the min and max level but if I go up to the max on it it’s fine. The more roots it grows it will use up more water so you might have to start adding more in there. I think the only problem with the water is when you’re transferring from soil which they can rot more easily so I’m avoiding soil transfers now.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  7 місяців тому +1

      The meter will move with how much water is in it! Sometimes they get stuck and you have to move it some for it to pick up again but I find it helpful to visualize how much is in it. I’ll be making a pon care video sometimes here so I’ll show how I use them!

    Hi! Is there a brand of self watering pots that you recommend?

  • @beckythebealge

    One part is whatever you want it to be. So if you use one cup you’ll need 20 cups of water if you use 1 ounce of enhencer you’ll need 20 onces of water. Basic math

      I understand that I’m not an idiot 🙄 they clearly had more detailed measuring instructions online. I don’t think a normal person would measure out 20 cups of water to one part of the soil enhancer. That’s such a waste of time. If they stated 6.4 ounces to a gallon then just write that on the bottle. That was my point.

    Do you keep the reservoir filled while rooting?

    Please don't put the TFF in your closet. It's the best. I live in Australia and it is also very expensive here. I have one very large moss TFF mix pole and we are in summer and I still only water every two weeks.The mix of the two seems to work so well. Maybe just make one pole to try it out

      What do you mean? I can’t store it in my closet?

      Sorry. I mean it's so good, use it in a pole instead of putting it in the closet. It's to good to store. Mixed with Moss it's the best mix for poles. Sorry I wasn't clear@@plantsbymelissa

    Next time you'll know. Cut the pot! With that being said, I'm sure it will be fine. It seems like it is able to grow roots no problem.

    Is there a place where you get your pon that’s cheaper than Amazon? Everywhere I check it’s like $25 + for a small bag 😳

      This link from Amazon is for the 12L bag. It’s $27.99 which is the same price on the lechuza website. I don’t think that size sells lower. Amazon was selling the 6L for almost $50 😅😅
