Rescuing a flying-fox baby on his dead mother: this is Barff

- So let's address his name right up front; as you all know, I seem to have fallen into a Cocktail theme for this season (it was an accident, really).
He was rescued near Barff Avenue in the University locally; I thought it was such a good and distinctive name, then I thought, what's a cocktail without a barf (after overindulgence)? Hence his name.
He went to Auntie Jack around 5 weeks ago now and I do believe "incipient pork chop" has been mentioned with regards to his nicely increasing weight. Auntie Jack's babies are healthy chubby little chops who have adorably round bellies after feeds.
Barff's rescue was called in by a lovely lady who waited until we arrived. I was carless for the day, with Froggie having her front sensors tweaked, so Maggie drove and dropped me off with a friend who wanted to see a rescue; It was very local so we were literally 15 minutes getting there.
You will note I was amazingly well prepared, with all the things I required in my pocket including a bag for the mumbat's body.
Barff was only 6 days old, a tiny little guy who was shunted off to Auntie Jack the next day because she was in town. His mum was probably clipped by a car and had her flight destabilised, so she would have crash landed on the footpath and crawled away to find somewhere safe to recover. Unfortunately she didn't recover.
She was noticed by a few students who alerted a security guard who bundled her up and put her in the shade when he noticed she had a baby on her. Finally someone phoned for rescue.
Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for me. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).

Mention Megabattie or Meg in the PayPal message box and the money will find its way to me.
If no message box appears, please email Jenny to tell her that the money is for me.
IMPORTANT: If you pay through the PayPal Giving Fund, can you please email Jenny with the AMOUNT DONATED and the name under which you have donated, OR just forward along the PP receipt.
The Giving Fund doesn’t charge any fees (so the bats get more money) but PP doesn’t itemise out the amount, they just send a total every month, and we don’t know if the money is for Tolga or for Megabattie.
Here’s Jenny’s email.

Barff is very lucky that people in Australia help animals and that there are rescuers who give him a chance to live. Thank you to every person who helps animals💞❤🦇🙏
So happy that precious Barff’s little tummy is full and he is in the care of the amazing Auntie Jack!

It's so bitter sweet. Poor mom rest in peace 🕊️ but she gave birth to a precious baby boy 🍼 🦇. 🎉
Oh how handsome he is! His little bare belly was noticeable right off. Big thanks to the kind MOP so little Barff could be rescued before he became unwell. He is truly one of the more beautiful little babies! Under Auntie Jacks' care, he's no doubt a beautiful pork chop. Thank you, Meg, and to all the people who watched over him, provided chauffeur services, and transportation to pork chop station.

Jane Foss Barff (née Russell) (24 October 1863 - 10 June 1937) was the second woman to attain a Master of Arts from the University of Sydney.
Her name was just convenient for my cocktail theme
@@Megabattie That's cool that her accomplishment was recognized!

So tiny and adorable ❤🇨🇦🦇🍁
Such a lively, squirmy little guy. Nice to see after the recent squidgy ones. And such pretty fur, too.
The first time I ever thought barff was gorgeous ❤❤😂Happy New Year Meg, Maggie, Mandi and all the wonderful bat people ❤❤❤❤🌹
Poor mumbat, her baby is a newborn, she didn’t have much time with baby Barff ( can’t get over that name ) glad MOP stayed ❤️ Baby Barff will get the best of care with Auntie Jack💙🦇
I mean, if a street is named Barff, you just gotta take advantage of it, and what's a cocktail overindulgence without a good barf afterwards?
Meg, no filters, boundaries and totally inappropriate when the mood takes her.
Auntie Jack says he has golden tips on his fur on his belly; he's quite unusually coloured.
Jane Foss Barff

Yes, I knew the sign must have meant someone’s name at one time ……makes sense……
Awwwww ❤❤❤ what a little sweetheart ❤ Thank you for all you do Meggabattie you certainly are a gem 💎 ❤
Just love watching from Italy. What a cutie this guy was :)
What a name! 😂 Cute little guy!🦇
LOL, what's a cocktail indulgence (or overindulgence) without a following barf?
I remember the first cocktail I ever drank, followed by a second; they went down smooth; they came back up less happily...
Barff, really? I had no idea the word had an actual language origin, like Banff, Calgary, Canada. Although the yearly festival in Calgary can surely beat out any University for long term queasy, and the Spring event at my uni was Megalomania. Long may you party, little Barff! Just so adorable🤣

RIP poor mumbat
A school friend's sister (one of many sisters) was called Barf.
Actually her nickname was Baff but we always asked him why her called his sister Barf
Unfortunate name for his sister.
Oh, this is such a sweet rescue. I’m sorry mom didn’t make it but this cute little baby boy did, and without you and the people that will take the time to call, they both would’ve died. 💕💕💕💕
Another tiny little guy.
I have been looking on the internet for a bucket hat like yours. It's fantastic.
I don't think I was wearing a hat in this video. Do you mean the black and white one? I have a couple of different batty bucket hats.
The black and white one came from Dangerfield; I had a quick look and see that particular hat online, though there will be some in the remainder outlets.
Thanks megabattie I will have a look elsewhere . Xx
I love how you teach Meg. As you were explaining the sub q fluid you said Hartmann's or as I we call it here in the US...lactated ringers solution! I'm old, so I recognized the term...but it's been called LR here for years, so younger nurses may not recognize it. I had someone discuss an available teaching job here...just have to figure out if my body will hold out!🤣This little boy is absolutely adorable! 😇❤️🖤🦇🖤❤️
I learned something new today from your comment! I don't believe I've ever heard it called Hartmann's, I've been a nurse going on 10 years, in the US. How interesting!
It's Hartmann's in England and Australia, and Ringers lactate in the US.
Ringer's Solutions. Ringer's solutions are either called lactated or acetated Ringer's solutions, named for a British physiologist, or Hartmann's solution, named for a U.S. pediatrician who in the 1930s added lactate as a buffer to prevent acidosis in septic children.
In the 1930s, the original solution was further modified by American pediatrician Alexis Hartmann for the purpose of treating acidosis. Hartmann added lactate, which mitigates changes in pH by acting as a buffer for acid. Thus the solution became known as "Ringer's lactate solution" or "Hartmann's solution".
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
💚💚💚💚💚
Sad someone lost his mommy
Doesn't India have a detergent called Barf? Anyhow, Auntie Jack does wonders turning these morsels into pork chops. Her mom did have an almost orange sweet potato ruff so can imagine how Barff became a little dinner plateful.
Auntie Jack says he has golden tips on his fur.
❤🦇🦇🦇🦇❤
❤😊🦇🤗
You should get some of those microwaveable plushies that get nice and warm in 3 minutes. It’d probably increase the younger ones’s chances being up gains something that’s super warm for the ride home.
I have an incubator in my car for the babies; but this rescue was on summers day, 2 kms from my home.
I don't like microwaveable plushies. You can burn babies' wings with the uneven heat.
😀
enterráis a la mamá, verdad???
No, dejo el cuerpo al veterinario para su cremación.
No tengo jardín, y si lo tuviera tendría cientos de cuerpos enterrados allí, así que no, no los entierro.
Gorgeous little one. Does Aunty Jack have a channel too?
No, but she did send me updates which will go public tomorrow, and I was very lucky she went to the trouble to do this for us. It's not in her comfort zone but she persevered did video and sent me the footage.
@@Megabattie ok.Cool.I understand. Thankyou
Auntie Jack is an amazing person and a total batty tragic, which makes her more awesome.

Well done Meg. I was wondering how you pronounce his name. Because in America, it would be a very unfortunate name. Barf in America is slang for vomit. I’m supposing that Barff is pronounced the same way as the slang American term? He’s a cutie patootie though!
Yes, it was the street name adjacent; but since my theme is cocktails and drinks and things of that ilk, I thought what's a cocktail overindulgence without a good barf afterwards. (memories of the most amazing Fluffy Ducks which went down so smoothly and came up a little less happily)...
I thought it would be an unfortunate name for a human, too.
But was the name of one of the first women in the 1800's to get a degree at the university. @@debbiej.2168
