Me in the morning: Ugh I couldn't sleep.
My mom: Maybe it's because you don't exercise.
Me: *stares intensely at the 800 page book I finished at 4 am*
Also me: Yeah probably.
Lifting Stormlight books off the shelf is considered exercise, right?
@@HeadCannon19 depends on how fast you read maybe?

11:01 I have to tell my mom the entire plot of a book so she can understand this one funny part on page 71.
I relate to this SO MUCH XD
Merphy saying “someone crying and “a woman laughing” when it’s some of the most famous actors alive is a true testament to the fact that she REALLY doesn’t watch movies.
I thought exactly the same! lol
The only movies she knows are Disney and LOTRS. lol
Lol I did notice that.
I had this same thought. "A woman? Its only Anne Hathaway" 😂 so funny
Was about to comment the same XD
"We're readers; we're not that strong!"
DEAD 😂
As I would be if I spent one hour in Panem or pretty much any world that isn't Narnia
I think I could possibly survive Narnia and maybe Harry Potter because I would love to learn magic and I might be fairly good
My wish has been for the magic and characters from books to work here, so I get all the upsides, without the downsides
@@MoonlitWyvern yeah magic in real world with magical creatures. (My wish since i heard stories for kids)
@@maem7462 you dont have plot armor so you will most likely find it hard but that world isnt as challenging as others imagine being in the attack on titan world

The last one has much better version:
HP fans: "I wish I got the letter from Hogwarts."
Narnia fans: "I wish I found that wordrobe as well."
Hunger Games fans: "Uhm... wel... no, thank you."
First Law fans:
Second Apocalypse fans:😬
My parents recently made me get all of my books and take them from their house to mine. My boyfriend vastly underestimated how many boxes we'd have to move. When we got done unloading them, he drove us to the hardware store so he can build more shelves haha
You’re lucky you have so many books.
You trained him well
I'm glad he's supportive 😊
The fact that he'll build them for you is so special.
@@thomaskittock2866 right?!? Relationship goals.

Never saw it that way until now. Us readers are weird
It‘s not stupid if it works
me reading SoC: hmm yes floating dead people, so comforting

My family doesn’t ask me why I’m crying on the floor anymore, they ask me if it was another Sanderson book.
#moash
I gave up reading Nicholas Sparks because of all the crying... The Notebook literally made me cry for hours AFTER I had finished the book.
@@annamattos8627 so like cry like you recommend? Or cry like it wasn’t worth it?
@@chloeahey Cry like it's so beautiful and sad and amazing. Totally recommend it. It's just that my poor heart can't take it anymore. 😆
My mom also doesn't ask me, she just sends a "don't cry because of a book or I'm gonna take it" glare
The "books as gifts" thing is pretty much over when you pass 2,000 books and no one wants to try to get you something you haven't read/don't own. Bookstore gift cards become a frequent and beautiful gift.
(And, just as an aside, Gandalf didn't show up at 50, either).
I get bookstore gift cards every year!! I absolutely love that!
“I just don’t really need things… Unless they’re books.”
I related so hard I had to stop and write a comment about it. 😂
Honestly same. I’ve now mostly started asking for books for birthdays and holidays
Whenever my parents ask me what I want, I ask for books. I think I need help.
biblio-socialists unite!
I'm really frugal with how much I spend on groceries so I can buy more books. Excess money spent on anything other than books is money wasted as far as I'm concerned.

Teenage me could relate more to the late night ones. Adult me has a toddler and infant and needs her sleep.
Husband and I recently had a date night to our favorite used book store. It is located next to a board game store. It's a very dangerous combination.
But what if your magic power was: Being able to stop time while reading
Yes!
i would never start time again cause i keep reading and reading 😂

Oh. My. God

I'd given my sister a book that I enjoyed & had to stop myself from continuously asking, did you read it yet, did you read it yet, did you read it yet? Yeah, that's why I joined booktube.
It's so annoying when they don't...
@@sarseike hehe😂😂yes!
Or when you let someone borrow a book that you really like, you continuously ask if they started reading it to which they say no, then after some time, you ask them again. They say yes and that they do not understand why you like it. True story 😂🥺
Most relatable part of this:
*bringing a bunch of books on vacation*
"and then of course I have to buy a book while I'm there."
I can really relate to the one of "it could be drugs", even though I am like "Well, I don't smoke... I don't drink... This is MY addiction!" 🤣... Books and Boardgames what can I say 🤷🏻♂️
And that's probably the best reason to be carrying a kindle/nook: You can have 40-50+ books with you for when you're not at home with the *real* books.
But there's just something about having the physical book in your hands... :)
Don't forget the smell.
@@milicadiy sadly the smell is worse then the old times ):
Merphy: When my husband and I go on a date, we always visit a bookstore if we can.
Also Merphy: When I'm in a bookstore, I forget about the people I'm with.
Wow, must be romantic.
That’s my ideal date.
Yeah, that happens to me too. That's how I know my husband still loves me, every once in a while he takes me to the bookstore and doesn't divorce me after being ignored for hours.
That would be my dream
I can read hundreds of pages in a day but ask me to read a few pages for class and I’m either falling asleep or complaining about it to my friends
I laughed so hard when Merph started blaming the sun saying “It’s not my fault, it was light when I started reading!” 😂😂😂😂
I like how at the end Cory is just trying not to smile
All of these were so relatable. I especially loved the Barbie meme. I am so bad with books on vacation. I'm a mood reader which means that when I get away for one or two weeks, I don't know what I'm going to want to read, so I have to take a whole bunch of different books from different genres with me...
I am usually physically unable to put a book down at night, and if I do, I don't sleep anyway so then I torture myself with the thought "I could be reading rn..."
“We’re readers! We’re not that strong!” Had me rolling.
The memes were amazing. But the fact that Merph can just...fall asleep when she's tired? Truly extraordinary.
All the ones about having too many books is basically how my friends react to pictures of my book stacks. Granted, I also send them pictures of the stacks with me next to it to show them how tall it is compared to me and now my friends are worried that they'll find me buried under books...... (not a bad future tho, not gonna lie)
Being buried under books? A dream come true.
If I was buried with books at my funeral that would be great
When people see my house for the first time they glance around, gape in astonishment and say something like "so you like to read then".
@@maem7462 the ideal thing. I wouldn’t do that though. I’d most probably donate my books to people because the world deserved to know them.
@@luuuuux_ True
The bookstore meme is sooo relatable. So me a couple friends were going to a mall for a movie the other day. We are 5 mins late and they still had to pull me by the neck to the theatre, since I refused to not enter every bookstore in there...
Oh I can relate to basically all of those.
I ordered the 8 The Expanse books and before they arrived I already ordered The First Law trilogy. I'm running low on places to put them because my Magic The Gathering collection already consumed multiple closet spaces.
The 'sleep after this chapter' is me.
That book flip in the end killed me xD
"Peter Pan may not actually be my favourite."

For the last meme with HG, I heard the opposite, with HP fans wanting to go to Hogwarts while Narnia readers wanted to go there. However, HG fans said we were fine, thank you!
I'm pretty sure the meme meant "I made it to 19 without being reaped" but that's not how everyone else seems to be reading it so idk.
@@caroline7420 there are two separate memes
"we're readers, we're not that strong!" Agree so hard lol I would die in all combat scenarios
I recently went to a book club meeting, where we were going to pick the next six months of books. I stuffed my backpack purse with books, because "someone might want to borrow one". When it was time to recommend and vote on books to read together, one lady recommended a book, but hadn't looked up the blurb yet. Soooo, I just pulled it out of my bag and read the inside cover. We're all book nerds, but they all still thought I was crazy because I just happened to have the book with me. Haha
The bookshop is literally my favourite place in the world. The experience of going there is like a lucid dream, with endless possibilities😌
As usual, Merphy's ads are the only ads I always watch! The little skits are so entertaining
For the last one, I saw something similar, but instead of The Hunger Games, it was "I made it to 12 and no satyr came" in reference to Percy Jackson.
I've never heard of the term "social introvert" before but that definitely describes me!
I'm here laughing like a lunatic and my parents don't even know why. Lol.
I have said this to my parents because I have always been a collector. They were always asking me why I am wasting my money and I kept saying I could be spending this money on something much worse so be thankful.
This is so wholesome, amazing
That barbie meme was relatable... made the mistake one time of only bringing one book on a trip, I finished it day one and we had to stop by Barnes in Nobles where I bought 4 books and proceeded to read and finish half of them before the trip was over.
Since then I've never under-packed when it comes to books.
"We are readers we are not that strong" - Merphy's Words of Wisdom
The acting in that ad tho.... 😂
Momma Merphy came out hard on that last meme. "Do you want to be reaped!? Is that what you want!?"
Yep, I also cried a lot while reading A Man Called Ove. I recommend you watch the Swedish movie adaptation if you want to cry some more over this story 😅
"I don't really need things unless they're books" as an anti-consumerism reader, YES
*Meme:* There are people who use bookmarks, and monsters (dog earing)
*Me:* Laughs in never doing either and just remembering where I left off
Or ... not remembering where I left off and just reading random scenes fearfully in case of spoilers until I find the right place by luck
This is a superpower
I'm the mythical creature that does all three, and gets people staring weirdly at me with all three scenarios.
"I'm going on an adventure!" That's from *The Hobbit.*
I love how you rant about being reaped as if getting a Hogwarts-Letter wouldn't mean you're forced to live in a giant castle filled with all kinds of traps or places even the headmaster doesn't know exist, right next to a forest full of dangerous creatures, where every student basically carries a weapon around at all times and normal school subjects are able to kill you if you're not careful enough. And guess what, if you decide not to go, a bunch of owls will harras you until maybe a half-giant will come to take you with him.
I always thought that the owls came because the Dursleys wouldn’t let Harry read the letter.
@@sky_warriorak1685 Well yeah, you kinda make assumptions to make weird things be less weird and interpret actions as good, because it's the protagonist. Which I guess is why I could read about Houseelves without a doubting the Wizards morality.
But like imagine if they knew about the detail of the Dursleys not letting Harry read that letter. How do they know? Do the wizards know and send more owles, or do the owles know? Does this happen with every letter they send? Are they spying on then? McGonagall was spying on the Dursleys before they got Harry over there.
I don't actually know what the point of my comment was, it sound awfully hateful, but I also don't know if the context of this video makes it less so.
@@ArnLPs Perhaps it’s just a mini plot hole that everyone can interpret?
@@sky_warriorak1685 I wouldn't call it a plot hole. Kinda unimportant too
But I like taking a closer look at the text for the same reasons I don't enjoy the story anymore.
But I also don't see the escapist aspect at all, because in the end, Hogwarts is just a school that's more dangerous than normal. Everything bad from real life, still exists in Harry Potter... But you don't typically think about it it while reading. The description of how beautiful a Hippogryph is can't bite and scratch you to pieces.
@@ArnLPs I never looked to Harry Potter for escapism either. And I’m honestly only on the third book (though I have seen all of the main movies). I suppose it isn’t a plot hole, yet I just look towards quick ways to resolve disagreements.
that's why ebooks are so great, you only take your kindle on holiday and then you can read whatever you feel like!
The social introvert part was quite relatable, no matter how much I enjoy spending time with friends and family if it is a multi day visit I do need some alone time.
Me: I hate this book.
People: Then stop reading that book.
Also me: But I liked that guy on page 12 and the setting and the writing and the plot is very cool.
People: Then what you hate about it?
Me: When did I say that? You are delusional.
Omg, this is so relatable. I tell people that I hate a book after something sad or frustrating happens, and then, when they see me reading it, they ask me why i’m reading it since I hate it. Joke’s on you people, I love the book.
This is exactly how I felt about Lord of the Rings😂😂😂😂
I love how you explain the visuals of the meme. I'm someone who usually just listens to youtube rather than watching (though I left this video until I could watch it), but I'm sure this is also super helpful for people who are blind or visually impaired.
I’m more amused and interested in merphys reactions to these memes, than half the memes themselves.
The last meme 😭
When I was little, I truly believed that I had to be special in some way. And then reality hit me and I was so heartbroken when I realized.
"We're readers. We're not that strong!"
I felt that so hard.
I was laughing at you picking apart that last meme. I totally relate - I love to READ about all the adventures but I'm not really interested in going on an epic quest or traumatic transformational journey myself.
I'm a non reader who discovered you maybe half a year ago. I just love your personality and hearing you talk about books. Low key looking for motivation to return to the world of reading too
I just returned to the world of reading.
And I love her personality too.
Her enthusiasm for books is so contagious.
Btw, I discovered her channel a week ago 😄
Thank you Merphy. This video made me so happy. You are the best.
This week has been so full of bookish emotions on this channel. Last video we were crying with you and now we’re laughing silly. That’s why I love this channel. ❤️
Me too! Every time I travel anywhere I bring at least two physical books with me, my ereader, and a physical audiobook just in case. And I have to buy books to bring home with me. Every. Time.
Your reaction to the hunger games one was priceless 🤣🤣🤣
When Merphy yeeted the book at the end my mouth dropped to the floor and I was like ohhhh nooooo.....hahaha!
7:11 I feel this way too much! I love surprises, so I have lists of things that I like/would like so my mom can choose, but she doesn’t like to get me stuff when I have a lot of them. So, I have tons of books, which means she doesn’t like to get me books because she thinks I have too many and there isn’t room (which isn’t entirely untrue), but it’s like: it’s not that hard!!
Cory's acting in the ads is everything 😊

Lmao I’m a writer and put my “trauma” (well not really trauma but idk what else to say lol) on my main character.
(I have mean friends who kind of bully me and so I did the same to my main character so I can express my emotions in another way)
I'd still want to go on that adventure at 50.
As a writer, I can totally relate to giving characters trauma, " it is precious to me."
I dont remember how I first found your channel. I think UA-cam recommend one of your Harry Potter videos to me because I'm subscribed to Tim's channel. But I stuck around. I mostly read nonfiction myself, but I like to listen to you talk about books. Also I am a songwriter and it's good to hear people talk about what does and doesn't work well in written media.
Thoroughly proud of myself that Merphy chose my meme to review second!! AT LEAST ITS NOT DRUGS! 😂

I always save merphys videos to watch while I’m cooking dinner & I have to say it’s better than any podcast!
I used to do the whole "stay up late reading" thing. Then, I had kids. Now, I find time throughout the day for reading because once I lay down, I'm out. ☺
What you were saying about reading in the dark because the sun went down is the reason that I stole the remote control for the christmas tree lights and put it to my bedroom light.
To avoid the has 'she read it before problem' I just take my friend to a bookstore and tell them I will buy the book they pick. 😊 It's a perfect gift!
The meme with the therapist is so me. I am a published author and I love my current MC, but I keep making her go through so much pain.... I'm a monster. 😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂
