I struggled with my Golden Goddess for SO LONG, but recently I've gotten the hang of it. I was always so scared to rot it as that was a huge issue for me when I was propagating it after getting it in the mail. I lost about 7 of the original 11 leaves, though it's now grown quite a bit.
Same with my Thai Sunrise- lost all 9 leaves that it came with because I was so scared of rot. Now it has 3 leaves with a fourth coming out.

Okay. In my short 5 years with plants I never knew root rot could happen from not watering your plant and then giving it a good water until today! I've heard it twice now, from you and from someone else baha I may need to check a few of my plants..... 😅 Thanks for the video, girl 💛💛

I finally broke down and just got a humidifier for my home office where all my plants live (I was just lazy and didn’t wanna mess with one lol). It’s so worth it though because all of a sudden I’m getting lots of new growth!! My stromanthe triostar is the most dramatic tho. It’s currently in essentially a terrarium (actually a plastic tub that used to hold candy lol), and that’s literally the only way to keep the humidity high enough for her. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Just an FYI, temperature readings 2-3 degrees lower than what you set the thermostat at is actually normal :). Also I think humidity can help mitigate some winter unhappiness for plants even if the temp is low. I actually have my thermostat set to 66/67. Temp readers inside usually read 61-64 but I have a whole house humidifier attached to my hvac. I live in N. Iowa so it is almost a necessity when the heat seems to run nonstop. My humidity levels read 50-60% inside. I've had most of my collection grow through winter, even multiple Hoyas. I only had 2 plants to throw a fit. One was my only aglaonema that lost 1/2 it's leaves when the season changed from fall-winter and my heart fern. Other than that everyone else is doing good, no winter tantrums to speak of. Out of a collection of 130, thats not bad!

With your Umbrella plant, it s most likely Nitrogen deficiency. My neighbors had the variegated umbrella flourishing in their front garden so I don't think its the sun. Lack of Nitrogen leads to a lack of chlorophyll. I had the same issue with my Jasmine which lives outside and what I have found worked for her was fertilizing with fish emulsion and chelated iron, I mix the iron chelate and fish emulsion with water as indicated on packaging and then add to to watering can, so half water, half fertilizer in watering can and it really helped with my jasmine. They say mixing in epsom salts with water or place on top of soil before watering helps to greenify leaves as well

I have the same plant and it is a moonlight goddess. I bought mine from a nursery over a year ago. They grow like crazy and very easy to take care of. Always have new leaves coming out. I just cut mine back.

Your root rot explanation from under watering peperomia is soooo perfect - only wish I had seen it before I killed my Rosso and my Ruby cascade 😭
My S. arboricola (variegated) is also kind of on the struggle bus 😣 but I think it’s mainly temp/light/humidity related. And also being super root bound lol, so hopefully the repot and relocation I just did stops the drama
Thanks for the honest videos as always!

Shipped a philodendron Brazil(should have just gone to a plant nursery, but I was being lazy), I got a heat pack for it, because you know…WINTER…but I’m in Texas…anyways the roots rotted on the way over here buuuut I’m saving it! 😊 Thank’s for this video, or all of them, I absolutely love watching 💙 😊

Yess I always struggle with begonias in my house, too. I live in QLD Australia but I just feel like begonias are never happy with me no matter what I do. It could be too hot for them because we have just had our Summer. But I am ok to say that maybe they aren't for me (even though they are so pretty!).

Unfortunately some of my plant struggles are because my dog thought they would be good toys. Otherwise, I have a pepperomia that was beautiful, and now it's so small and sad. I have a black mamba (contemplating pruning ALL the leaves because they are all wilted now). A peacock fern that didn't handle being separated well and keeps getting too cold, and string of frogs thats too crispy (because my dog) and needs more water.
