I did it and my microwave now has a secret function! It takes away the safety function and makes it self aware.. beware! Don’t slam the door too hard or Mikeys gonna get you!
The one with the old door lock was a life changer! We moved to a new house a few months ago that has one. We thought the door was broken but it works now!
The old door lock is a common function still used in residential/apartment buildings and it has nothing to do with bathrooms. They have a swivel spindle inside which allows one side to spin independent of the other so that you do not lock yourself in. If you put in a solid spindle in there and lock it you will not be able to open the door from inside.
Every apartment I lived in in NYC has that button. pre-war buildings, brownstones, project buildings, even nicer modern buildings. it's common amongst New Yorkers to say "make sure the button's pushed in and the door locks on your way out" to kids or house guests.
Also using petroleum jelly can keep the zipper from locking properly. In the 70s, the bleach caused a reaction on the metal of zipper so it was hard to zip/unzip. Mom put the greasy stuff on and it wouldn't stay locked. I had to zip them up all day long. That night I had to use degreaser on the zipper and never had the problem again.
A little Easter egg found in all cars made in the last 60 years. Usually located beside the steering wheel there is a short stick that, when pushed up or down turns on a blinking light that tells other drivers you intend to turn or change lanes. While required by law they often do not function properly in BMWs because of their notoriously flawed electronic systems.
I have a BMW and I think I may have this problem. When I push the short stick the light works for a split second then goes out for a split second and then comes on again for a split second then goes out again....and so it goes...on and off over and over again! 🤷♀️😁
@Storr, I kid you NOT, but for the last 3 years, when you go through the drive-thru, they say it's broken. One of these days, I'm gonna lose it! I think they just lie about it, because the machine has to be broken down at the end of the night shift and cleaned and nobody wants to do it! Actually, if you really wanted to do something, would be to call the district manager and complain, or better yet, write a letter.

I know right.. He never said for clipping one glove to each pocket either. Which is what they're really for. I come from a place with hard winters. They're so you don't lose gloves.
@@Tehpox That only applies to coats that have a lanyard in each pocket. You usually find them in one pocket only, and in warm weather clothing as well. Related equipment, but not the same thing. I suppose one could clip both gloves in one pocket, but I have them in the side pocket of my snowpants, for example. You can't fit gloves in that pocket. It also has a quick-detach, which is only useful for keys and cards. Basically, one can clip whatever one wants to them. But give me the old-fashioned mittens-on-a-string-running-through-the-sleeves any day. Never understood why everyone thinks those are only for little kids, it's a brilliant idea. I'm constantly loosing gloves and mittens. And they make special lanyards now that clip to each mitten, so they can be removed and worn without, and so you don't need to wear specially knit pairs of mittens connected together.
I was actually writing with a uniball pen when this came up on the video 😮😂 I found myself holding the pen against the one on screen, "Well I didn't know that!" 😂😂
#19: the glass around ceiling openings and stairwells are called draft stops. Their function is to keep heat from flowing around fire sprinkler heads, and detrimentally prolonging their operation. Also, by keeping heat from spreading, you keep fires from spreading faster. Which allows time for evacuation and first responders to respond. The smoke thing mentioned is just a cool byproduct of these devices.
Sadly I have to back the video on this one. The gaps are not just on the bottom of stall doors, but go up the sides too so you get a half inch gap even when the door is fully shut. Public toilets had a lot of problems with homeless people making them a home, or people to do things they don't want you to see in. This has effectively stopped it being used as a drug den/napping place.
The “punt” in a wine bottle looks like it would increase strength too. Also makes the wine bottle look bigger without having all that volume (like the container they put French fries in)
The punts main purpose is actually for serving. I am a banquet server at a very high-end hotel and that indention in the bottom of the wine bottle is for your knuckle to fit inside that way you can use your one hand to pour directly across a table with your full arm extended.
It was also used to hold the bottom of a bottle when making sparkling wine. Monks would mount the bottles, with wine in them, in a device that allowed the bottles to be turned (rotated) on a regular basis. This caused the fermentation to add carbonation.
If that's supposed to be a joke, I don't understand the humor. Why would having your roommate kick you out by changing the locks so you can't get into your residence be a positive thing?
Cos if yr roommate did change the locks without you knowing yr basically been kicked outta your home, n yr roommate changing the locks instead of askingbyou to leave is a pretty shitty way of telling you to f**k off, Wich is why he said it dark,.... Cos its a dark shitty thing to do.
The pipes on houses are more of a vent to allow for air to enter the plumbing system of your home. This prevents vacuum lock in your pipes when water goes down any drain. You may notice on very stormy windy days, the water in your toilet bowl moves a bit on its own. This is caused by the pressure differential of the wind on the roof vent to the plumbing system. And yes, it does stink on some days.
In my medical training (and it was mentioned in at least one CPR class that I recall) I was taught the thing about the hole in pen caps. All this time and until today since I had noticed the hole was not present in all brands & types of pens I believed that this was a joke ... also thinking that the miniscule hole in the caps was in fact too small to keep an individual from choking to death. Now having given it some thought I am thinking that this may be true. Perhaps the hole would be large enough to keep the choking individual from passing away but maybe not large enough to prevent long term damage due to insufficient oxygen saturation. Curious now I am off to do some research on the subject. Does anyway out there have any additional information on this? Thanks and greetings from Salem, Oregon USA.
I'm thinking from a Nurses view point: I can see the hole being big enough to benefit a child but not for long. But hopefully Resuscitation starts within the 3 minute mark & Oxygen can get around it or EMTs can try to get it out. For an adult, it wouldn't completely block anyway. My opinion is keep those kinds of pen caps away from small kids. As for Adults...there's Darwin's Theory?
Because, the hole in the top of the pen cap also prevents the the cap from resisting removal or replacement on the pen due to presdure deffierential, I argue that the tiny single hole on the old Bic pen design is not present merely as a safety measure. By the way, has anyone noticed that the later Bic Biro cap increased the air passage by introducing multiple openings?
The main thing I learned, this channel doesn't always give accurate information. It occasionally presents false rumors as facts. The wine corks was a false explanation. Given the fact that corked wine bottles are intended to be stored with the cork facing down, to insure that the wine bottles don't leak air into them. Not to allow air in. When the wine steward pops the cork, he hands it to the person ordering the wine. This person then squeezes the cork to make sure it is properly moist. Which means the bottle was probably sealed during storage.
They are also for a minut off gasing. Obviously not air in.... It'd foul & rot. The off gassing(sealed) is the booze being made in action. I use balloons when i make it in my basement
True. Not for air exchange at all. Cork with one side wet with the bottle laying down will maintain the seal for a very long time. There are now other methods that will keep for longer than cork, but with very good wine keeping it for a very long time verses a very very long time has limited value, since you probably aren’t going to be around to drink it.
A fun memory of mine is when my family was flying and my father showed me a pen whilst pointing to the hole on the side and asked me what that might me there for - having never heard or thought about it before I bought for a few moments and gave the right answer - I was in like 3rd grade.
Exactly! Just what I was talking about, when the zipper gets stuck in the down position and you can't grasp it with your fingers and you can't slide it back up to extract it from the folds. Good pants don't do this.
This video was helpful to me because I've discovered why some of my polymer clay covered pens are having exploding ink! I will incorporate PIN holes to ensure a vacuum seal doesn't happen from now on. Thanks!
In vineries it is actually used by a special machine to rotate the bottles to make sure that the cork doesn't dry out and the vine doesn't turn to vinegar.
That part of the video is slightly off. Pocket hooks are designed to hold/hang gloves off of. If you don't live in a cold area or own a coat designed to work in cold conditions, your chances of having a glove hook aka pocket hook are slim to none. This is why some people are baffled and have never seen one, something tells me they don't live in the North.
I've had my husband take apart our brand new microwaves immediately after purchase, so that he could disable the more than annoying beeps. I have hyperacusis, and high pitched noises are extremely painful. So this comes as good news!
Do you push the button while the microwave is running or when its beeping or just exactly what? I'm going on Snopes & checking this one. Sounds like an "Urban Myth" but I do hope its real. I can't stand that pitch😖
Glass should expand and contract a little with the climate. Even yes if there are gaps it still will drastically help as the gaps are relatively small in size.
well it used to be kinda common to chew on a pen cap while leaning back on a chair. lose your balance, chair falls over, you gasp and then in goes the pen cap. the hole saved many a cocky jock.
@@lizchechak7919 That's not what he was asking. He was asking why this would "let less cold air in". The hooks would be for not losing the gloves, they have nothing to do with letting less cold air in...other than by not losing the glove, you keep your hands warm.
4:30 The buttons locks on the doors were actually uses on bedrooms. During the old days when sales man or traveling professionals would stay the night at a strangers house the owner of the house would lock the traveler into the bedroom so they weren't a threat to anyone that lived there.
I am 70 years old and I had never heard of a mute button on any microwave ! So I tried #1 button on my microwave...nope ! tried a couple other numbers ....nope ! Looked up my maker's manual, used their instructions ....nope ! WTF ? I thought that would be so cool, big freakin' disappointment ! 😆
My mother is the only person in the world who locked herself out of her microwave oven...and blamed me for causing it. It turned out she pressed *STOP* three times which kicks in the child lock feature which disables the buttons from curious fingers. I had lo consult the manual for the buttons needed to be pressed to unlock it.
I've learned two mind blowing things today. Zippers have locking mechanism, and peanut butter glows in the dark very briefly. Thanks UA-cam! (Edit no more opening the microwave at 0:01 either today is a glorious day)
The one thing that amazed me with a modern everyday item that everybody misses is the humble milk carton. The opposite direction movement achieved when you open the carton. The screw turns the lid one way, piercing the foil liner and also moves the lid into the open position in the other direction, thus freeing the milk. A simple action performed yet ignored by millions of people every day. My question is "Who invented this and what are the mathematics behind it?" Any ideas?
The small holes in the lollipop sticks are used as an airway so that if a child unintentionally chokes on the stick, they have a chance to be recovered
Except the hole is blocked until the very end of the candy. If it was there for life saving like with pen caps it would need to be open at all times. As the video said it was put on the sticks because when they switched from paper sticks to plastic the hard candy didn't stay on the stick as well so they added the hole to give it grip.
@@nobodyimportant2470 Yea, there is some small lolipops without hole at top of the candy, and sometimes they fall from its place. And some lolipops which are bigger, they have hole at top and bottom of the stick for the safe.
It is, I dont know why said something else especially when they said the correct thing on another video titled the same name but as kids are the general amount who eat them, it's easy to push in too far so they can still breath if it does
No, the big problem I always have is when I pull my pants out of the dryer, and the zipper pull is wedged in the down position inside of the fold of fabric. Digging that bastard out has caused me much annoyance throughout the years.
On US interstate highways , a 3 digit number beginning with an even number is usually a bypass route, but if it begins with an odd number it doesn't loop back to the main route- it usually goes to the city center.
Got it right, Anthony. Even leading three digit interstate numbers (e.g. 270) indicate a circular route (perhaps a beltway) of the main interstate. Where the leading digit is odd (e.g. 570) the route is a spur or point to point route joining rural or urban areas to other urban areas.
I was just getting ready to say this. Yeah it’s for a few reasons. It’s so that if someone dies or has an emergency and can’t get out on their own, children don’t get locked in. This is the first time I’ve heard getting people to hurry up. I have never cared if someone sees my legs and feet but I could see how that would work for some people.
We can sit here and come up with potential uses all day, but like with many things, there's no single correct answer. There were probably multiple reasons behind the design when it was first implemented, and I'm sure each manufacturer and each buyer has their own set of reasons for still producing and utilizing these types of stalls today. Jabbering off a purpose as if it's an absolute fact doesn't exactly make you any better than the creator of this video.
The first 10 seconds of the video, I got excited cuz I'm a McShitties worker, and I know what the flurry spoons are used for. They are used to stir the flurry using a machine.

@ William Walker Ikr! Our mom would make the yarn strings each year so we wouldn't lose our mittens! Its such a simple but brilliant idea.
The mcflurry spoon fits on any 1/2" tool. I prefer my 1/2" Snap On impact to mix my mcflurry some more 😉

The smoke thing mentioned is just a cool byproduct of these devices.
and here i was thinking the gaps on toilet stall doors were there so you could escape if the doors got stuck.
What, like a super glue prank?
Cause it is...
Also makes the wine bottle look bigger without having all that volume (like the container they put French fries in)
Milton B thanks! 👍 So it is related to the strength and structural integrity of the bottle , even if it’s only for the corking process.
Milton nailed it. It helps dissipate pressure evenly in the bottle.
The punts main purpose is actually for serving. I am a banquet server at a very high-end hotel and that indention in the bottom of the wine bottle is for your knuckle to fit inside that way you can use your one hand to pour directly across a table with your full arm extended.
Rory Segal thanks! I hadn’t considered that
It was also used to hold the bottom of a bottle when making sparkling wine. Monks would mount the bottles, with wine in them, in a device that allowed the bottles to be turned (rotated) on a regular basis. This caused the fermentation to add carbonation.
“Unless your roommate changes the lock” why does he say that in such a dark tone
If that's supposed to be a joke, I don't understand the humor. Why would having your roommate kick you out by changing the locks so you can't get into your residence be a positive thing?
Its foreshadowing hes kicking his roomate out
Cos if yr roommate did change the locks without you knowing yr basically been kicked outta your home, n yr roommate changing the locks instead of askingbyou to leave is a pretty shitty way of telling you to f**k off,
Wich is why he said it dark,.... Cos its a dark shitty thing to do.
Plot twist, he's really just a stalker and has no roommate.
My mother taught me how to lock my zipper when I was a little girl. There are also small stink pipes on houses and buildings.

In australia we had bic biro's with a full cap till the 70's, when suddenly the tips on the lids disappeared.

I caught that. Air circulation, not!
Ooooh so when your zipper gets stuck it's locked 😂😂😂
Hopefully, otherwise it's jammed lol

Thanks!
The wine bottle "punt" is used to place your thumb in when serving
In vineries it is actually used by a special machine to rotate the bottles to make sure that the cork doesn't dry out and the vine doesn't turn to vinegar.
And *that* makes the most sense. Although way back when, I presume the rotation was done by hand?
I have never had a pocket hook in my life. WHERE’S MY POCKET HOOK? Who stole it? I wanna whole buncha pocket hooks!
Me either! I've been screwed over, complete bullshit!!!
Ditto
I've had one in several purses though.

I lost my job due to the Coronavirus so I decided to start this channel, wish my luck!
I've heard that explanation before and I use to believe it, but this explanation makes way more sense. That hole is to freaking small

The lolipop square hole is used for life saving. If you like those white sticks tho
Except the hole is blocked until the very end of the candy. If it was there for life saving like with pen caps it would need to be open at all times.
As the video said it was put on the sticks because when they switched from paper sticks to plastic the hard candy didn't stay on the stick as well so they added the hole to give it grip.

Big gaps in bathrooms are for emergencies like OH THEY ARE PASSED OUT
I thought so u can see if it taken
I was just getting ready to say this. Yeah it’s for a few reasons. It’s so that if someone dies or has an emergency and can’t get out on their own, children don’t get locked in. This is the first time I’ve heard getting people to hurry up. I have never cared if someone sees my legs and feet but I could see how that would work for some people.
It's not for passed out it's so you don't get GASSED OUT!!
Why do people think this
We can sit here and come up with potential uses all day, but like with many things, there's no single correct answer.
On some doors those circles are used to disable the lock on the other side, even making the key useless.
