    Just discovered your channel. Really amazing work I am totally blown away! Really love the chasm board!
    One thought: instead of a black bottom, perhaps a mirror. Depending on the angle you view it, a mirror may reflect the rock wall and give the illusion that the chasm is even deeper 🤔

    I love the new crock technique and I need to get my hands on some sage brush as well.

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому

      I misspoke when I called it 'sage brush'. It's called 'Super Sage' and you can find it a Scenic Express. It's really brittle out of the box, but soaking it will give it flexibility when wet. It's fantastic for non-handled areas, but trickier to get it to hold up to some bumping. If you get some, and after playing with it, you would like some more of my perspectives on it, drop me a note. :)

    Your persistent in making me wanna chuck my money at you, all of it lol. Great work as always, I too am not sure about the edging of the sheeting on top of the cave but can't wait to see the whole thing together. I need some pricing on this lot ;0)

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому

      Thanks. The top of the cave was a trick to decide on. I didn't want to build up the soil layer much more or it would start taking on a pyramid shape. ;) I'll be thinking about it more in future iterations.
      As for pricing, well right now there is no price since I am not accepting any orders. ;) But, sometime in June I begin to take orders again and you can contact me at mike@terranscapes.com to talk about what your interested in.

    Great new boards you just get better every time I watch well done, I have been working on a few boards myself and I wish to add glow n the dark paint to my water, any ideas on a good glow n the dark paint that mixes well with the woodland scenic water line any help would be great.

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому +1

      Hmmm... I don't know any glow in the dark paints that I could recommend. I haven't used any in the past. My suspicion would be to buy the best quality you can find, since it is likely to have a higher pigment count. Since you are diluting it in 'water', to get a good effect you will need to have as much phosphorescent content as possible. I think any paint is likely to be o.k. to add, but I would do a test piece or two to make sure, and to see what the glow effect will be. :)

  • @KilliaK
    @KilliaK 10 років тому

    Fantastic, I really think youve outdone yourself with this one. Im honest and don't like the walktrough hill but the other stuff looks really nice. I say this because I think this is a really nice an realistic looking table and that one hill is the only thing that really breaks that up. Having said that Im never fond of using caves and walktroughs in tables because there are not many games that supply additional rules for it so in short it becomes unused.

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому +1

      Thank you for the honest feedback. I always appreciate it. The tunnel, being a new feature for me, was a bit of a conundrum on how best to go about it. While I like it myself, that doesn't mean it can't be improved quite a bit. As for gaming, you can always just play the hill as a line of sight blocker. It's quite big after all. :)

    When fresh some pools will have a reddish tint. Others will be dark gray. All will lighten as they dry up. The type of soil will decide the final color.

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому

      Nice points. I can see what you mean about the color shifting as it dries. Something to consider down the road. :)

    Awesome boards as always mate. Question, has there ever been a piece that you've done that you've stepped back from and gone, yep, I'm completely happy with that?

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому +1

      **chuckle** Well.... I don't think so. I think I hit the hill board for this set pretty well however. ;) (But I think I could have painted the rock faces better, so I guess it doesn't count.) A lot of times, I let the piece guide me along, and at the end, when I step back, I think about some of the forks in the road I could have taken. Or, I think about how I could have investigated the deer path I could see from the road along the journey. It's a big world after all, and I never think the path I chose is the perfect one. I do think it's a good one most of the time however. ;)
      As an aside - I'm never completely happy.

    @inaquianallforce4042 10 років тому

    Hey man, I love your new rock technique. I'm researching it right now for my Spire Town project. I do have one quick... observation? criticism? I don't know. Anyway at 20:33 you can see a couple places where the water has "gelled" on the edges. You can probably just Modpodge that smooth though.

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому

      Oh, I think I see what you mean. It sort of is a dip at the shore. I didn't notice that myself before. ;) It can take a little to fill those areas as the mod podge shrinks quite a bit when it dries. I'll look over the rivers and see if there are a lot of places like that. If so, I will touch them up. :)

    I like the terrain boards and terrain features.
    If you were designing game boards for a games that use regiments of models say 28mm historical or warhammer fantasy what changes in design approach would you use?

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому

      If they are large regiments - say 40-50 models strong/element - I would make much larger and gentler sloping hills. (Unless you want an obstacle to movement of course.) I might also make the river a bit wider, since I think it will look more in scale with the game - large blocks of troops will make the river seem smaller. Those are my first impressions. :)

  • @danielwilson5127
    @danielwilson5127 10 років тому

    Fantastic boards. Im really liking the river boards. What colours did you use for the river bed to get the nice deep tones? Also how did you seal the boards to stop the vegetation and grass from falling off? Thanks and keep up the good work.

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому

      I can't remember the color off the top of my head (I have it written down somewhere around here...) but it's a dark green mixed with an umber if I recall. :) To seal the flock, spray it with a mix of water and pva. (15:1 or so) It seals it very well.

    Inspiring terrain building for sure. Have you had a chance to see a new product from Woodland Scenics called Shaper Sheets? Thanks for the Kroma Crackle tutorials, I am working on a project that this technique will be perfect for.

    Your work is really great, but the other day I was looking throught the terrains pages website and couldn't find any jungle themed boards, so I was wondering wether you would at some point try doing boards which have a tropical jungle kind of theme.

    Oh my god that chasm looks stunning, i also love how are have done the rocky hills they are Amazing.
    i so want to make a whole set of modular terrain boards now.
    I would love to know what size you made the boards.
    You have given me tons of ideas now floating around my head, i have not put up many terrain videos of late due to a very big project i am working on which is the mordheim terrain set, i am having to make well over 100 buildings for it but a modular terrain board i think will be the way to go to give countless set up options both the board and the buildings. though i have not built terrain boards before.

      These boards are 10" x 20" and I explain my choices regarding this at terranscapes.com/products/playingsurfaces-FAQ.php which I think will answer many of your questions. If you have other questions, feel free to ask. :)

      thats really cool thanks for that mike, i would love to know how you did the rock faces, i did watch the first video and you said it was the resin with the foam, but not sure if you need a boot around it, if you do i am stumped as royal mail here in the uk have prohibited any liquids over 125ml going through the post :(

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому

      I actually thought about that sometime ago. :) I was looking into CNC routers that have a scanning tip. But, I never pursued it further, and I change things so much, I think it wouldn't help most of the time.

    I think it's about time you invested in a digital SLR or a camera with manual focus just for all your close ups. :)

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому

      I am using a DSLR (Canon T5i). I tried it on manual for the close ups, but I move around too much. ;) I'll see though if I can work on that. Perhaps cutting the shots a bit to move the camera would be better. I can zoom in post edit as well, so I have things to play with. Thank you for the suggestion! :)

  • @gazeebo88
    @gazeebo88 10 років тому

    That chasm looks phenomenal. Are you going to be showing us sometime in the future how you did the casting/painting?
    I think the new water color is so much better than what you had before. It's much more realistic, yet still has a nice contrast with the terrain. You should be careful with adding branches to the water though because very quickly you can ruin the illusion of depth

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому

      Good point on the branches. :)
      I did a quick video giving an overview of the casting process, but no tutorial at this time. Tutorials are one of my Patreon goals though, and it has almost been reached, so perhaps soon. :)

      ***** Just a quick question about the Patreon videos. Do they feature some kind of archive for people that "subscribe" later on so they can watch older material? I'm not quite sure how this whole Patreon stuff works.

      @Terranscapes  10 років тому

      gazeebo88 Actually, that is a great question. Luckily I am a patron of someone else, so I could go check. :) Yes, you can see older patron only content no matter when you join.
      And, I'm still learning myself. ;) If there is anything you are curious about, let me know. The more I explore the better.

    • @gazeebo88
      @gazeebo88 10 років тому

      Ok, I have 1 more question before this get's too jumbled up in this small comment section.
      If you set a max that would allow you to see for example 3 videos a month. Does this unlock the first 3 videos of the content creator or can you choose which videos you want to unlock?
      For example if you were to make 5 product reviews in the beginning of the month and a tutorial at the end of the month. Would I miss out on 2 products reviews and that tutorial or would I be able "decline" some of the first videos and then pick the tutorial video instead?
      I hope this makes sense :P

    • @Terranscapes

  • @Daggaroth666

    These new boards are awesome!
    But i thought, you would use "Liquitex" for the water since you made the videos about water effects Oo. Is this "Modge Pogde" still better than liquitex in your opinion?
    Keep up the good work! I follow your videos with big interest.
    Greetings from germany :)

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому

      I do normally use a heavier gel for the water effect, but here I wanted a very gentle movement and Mod Podge has the thin consistency that works best for that. I'm now actually using 5 different materials for water depending on the effect I'm looking for. Each has their place. Saying that, I haven't used Mod Podge in a long time. Glad I still had some around. :)

    • @Daggaroth666
      @Daggaroth666 10 років тому

      5 different materials!?Oo sounds intresting. One more reason, that shows, that you're a real pionier about modelling landscapes. Many thanks for your answer and your videos about watereffects! It helps me a lot to choose the "right" ones to create great watersceneries :-)

    hi im new to your page, and i would first like to say your work in insanly impressive and i was curious where you get your flock and static grass from GW seems prices to me and i would like to buy in a larger quantity i assume you would need to do the same considering you do your board in them and i was hoping you could tell me where to find it

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  8 років тому

      +kevin vandenberg I would stay away from any of the standard gaming retailers - GW, Secret Weapon, etc. for your flock and foliage. Check out Scenic Express and/or Woodland Scenics. They have a lot of offerings at much better prices. :)

From the comments below the video I have read that you are using a different spilling, burnt umber and khaki colors, but how to apply do not know, and most importantly how to make such a structure of stones? Thank you!

    Well done! Getting better on every iteration.
    Isn't it getting time to stop improving them and start focusing on selling more and churning them out in numbers? In the end, you're not in it just for the hobby anymore. Or does that make me sound like your wife? ;)
    But seriously, I am really wondering how you look upon that part of your business.

    • @Terranscapes
      @Terranscapes  10 років тому

      Well... I don't think I can churn out product. It's not in my blood, and yes, that has hurt my bottom line. :) But, I'm actually going to move in the opposite direction and go strictly with custom work. (I'll be redoing the website very shortly and eliminating the store component.) Then I will be taking on projects from customers who want me to push myself. I think that will help a little.
