Floating Corner Shower Shelf

- After remodeling my bathroom, I couldn't find shower shelves that would look good with our tile that didn't require drilling holes in the tile or some other permanent modification. I wanted something that was reversible. I decided to try this technique, and so far it has been holding up really well for several weeks. The items I used are listed below. Most of them can be found from various stores and websites.

I've been looking everywhere for a tutorial on this; THANK YOU for the great info!
Thanks, Dustin - I had the same idea - bar the initial bracket process and your solution looks great. Good editing of the video too.
The tile looks great dude, this is a nice looking shelf project, well thought out and explained.
Thanks +Dan The Maker Man. I'm really happy with how the whole room turned out.
u r so good at doing this
Thanks for getting back to me very much appreciate it
very easy to do. I was also looking for an option that didn't involved making hole in the wall. I'll give it a shot great idea.
Great job thumbs up for u this exactly what I was looking for thanks for the links to everything great job 👏🏻👏🏻
Lani love can we communicate
Great method.......I also like the fact that it's easily reversible Incase you ever decide to change the shelves or location.
I wanna TRY!!! Awesome!! all I have is a stand-up small shower so that would be perfect
Serena's World Hi can I tell you
Great job, looks like it holds well, thank you
nicknwo4life thanks for watching
Awesome job!
I've been looking for a good video that will show me the less-clutter-look shower organizer that is barely seen once inside shower and all I see are shower clutters. I have OCD and this is the ONLY idea that I approved. It's so perfect! Size of glass not too wide I really love it.
allie tirad I had the same struggles and found inspiration from a similar process that used a stone shelf instead of glass. Thanks for watching.
Thank you! wonderful idea instead of drill the tile.
Nice looking shelves..
+sixtyfiveford Thanks
Thanks I'm putting up glass tile, and didn't make a niche, and saw glass shelf at tile place. I didn't want to use ceramic or stone shelves. Plus glass is not easy to cut or drill into.
Dustin great idea. We remodeled our master bath and didn't want to hide the tile. I put in six shelves! At my big box store the 3/4" corner protectors looked too thin but they had 1-1/8" that was twice as thick. I did an experiment using the tape, waterproof adhesive, and silicon sealant on a scrap tile and the silicon sealant is the best. So, I used the sealant to fasten the brackets to the wall instead of double sided tape. I had to wait a couple hours before adding the shelves. They look great and no hole drilling (I sealed the shower with Kerdi membrane and holes would void the warranty)!
I hadn't seen the 1-1/8" stuff. I'll have to look for it. Mine are holding up great, going on 3 years now. I'm glad too because I can't stomach the thought of drilling a permanent hole in something that I worked so hard to seal up properly.
Mike - Which silicone sealant did you use?
Thanks! Just what I was looking for. 👍
Omg thank you so much. Such a great video. I just did it and it looks great. I did one and followed your instructions exactly, well almost exactly. I neglected to leave a space with the double sided tape. So it's just one big piece instead of two pieces on each side. 🙄. I have to do one or two more. But I'm going to do what someone suggested below and go with a bigger corner protector and just silicone instead of the double sided tape. Thanks for the video.
Tiny Magwood great. You’ll have to let me know how the silicone only install works out for you. Thanks for watching.
@@DustinRogersinMO I did it. It holds really well. Looks good too. I can put a full bottle of a big mouthwash on there and other bottles and it's 100% ok.
Thank you ! Nice & smart solution .. I will do it soon. 👍👍
Very helpful video👏👏 I will definitely try , cause I don't want to drill holes either!!! Thank you!
Thanks for watching. Good luck with your install.
@@DustinRogersinMO Thank you!!!
Nice plan. I like it. Especially for a rental. Originally I thought you were going to remove the grout and then use silicone and stick the glass in between the tiles but I can’t do that on mine because I have 16th inch grout lines.
Hello I'm here it’s working out well for us. Still holding up fine. Thanks for watching.
great suggestion sir. thank you. :)
Amazing.
Thanks for the video! This is exactly what I was looking for and it will avoid drilling holes in the tile, which I hate doing. If you had to put a number to it, how much weight do you think each shelf will hold?
Edgar Flores each shelf will easily hold 3-4 of the large shampoo bottles. If I were to guess, I’d say it’d hold 10# no problem.
I am doing this method. .thanks for sharing
Great. Ours have been holding up great. Thanks for watching.
How did it go?
Thank u bro 👍
Hi. Now that its been 5 months. How's the tape holding up? Update please. i want to try this in my shower. if i ever decide to remove, do you think the tape and adhesive would come off smoothly without damage to tile? Thanks in advance.
They've been holding up great still solid as a rock. I imagine you could remove the tape with use of a heat gun but I haven't tried it.
thanks, i think i'll try to do it tomorrow
+naru gawa let me know how it turns out. Ours are still holding strong.
Help full video
Hey!! I absolutely love this and have planned to pick up all my materials tomorrow. But before I do so - my bathroom gets extremely humid (poor ventilation) do you think this method will still work with that happening?
Michel'le Feaster I don’t see why not. As long as you get the tile clean before applying the adhesive it should hold fine. The silicone will seal any moisture from getting to the adhesive tape too. Good luck with your project. Post a picture or video when you’re finished.
Has it still held up with your method ?
I want to try this in my shower but the tile is not completely smooth. Do you think using VHB tape might work better with the textured tile?
Kelly Gibson you could try VHB, but it’s really going to depend on how textured your tile is. If the VHB can’t get into the nooks and crannies of the tile, there may not be much of a bond between the tile and the VHB.
tried this method and 2 years down the track its holding up just fine
Glad to hear. We just moved out of the house that I did this in and it was still holding up well for us too.
I'm sorry what was the last step? and can it ever be taken off? like if I'm doing it for a rental?
The last step is just to smooth the silicone caulk. If you've never used silicone caulk, it sticks to everything and will leave a very thin smear of silicone in places that you don't necessarily want it. If you spray the caulk with soapy water before you smooth it down it won't be able to stick and smear all over the wall and shelf. It'll leave a nice smooth caulk line.
Will it be removable??? I think it will, but a lot of it is going to depend on the condition of the surface you stuck it to. If the surface is porous or textured, it may be very difficult if not impossible to get all of the silicone off. Once the silicone is removed, I believe that the mounting tape can probably be softened up with a hair dryer and scraped off with a razor blade...but I haven't tried to remove one yet, and don't plan to anytime soon.
Good idea but shouldnt you have slightly inclined towards the back corner? Not away from it? Unless i misunderstand
Pulsar Tech I was worried about the little gap in the corner getting plugged and not draining properly, so I decided to let water drain off the front edge.
So, why tape on the wall and silicone on glass... why not the other way around, or silicone on both, or tape on both...? Just wondering...
Tape on the wall is an instant stick - no curing involved. If I were to use silicone alone, I'd have to find some way to support the shelf until the silicone cured. Tape on the wall will hold the supports, which hold the glass it's place, the silicone is used both for adhesion and to provide a smooth transition to the wall.
Hi there like your video. Where do you get the plastic corners. For the glass. Thanks.
You can get them at most home centers or hardware stores. They’re corner protectors to protect wallpaper edges, so look near the wallpaper section.
Still holding up? Do you think it would hold up without the corner protector?
They holding up nicely. The real strength is in the clear mounting tape that holds the corner protectors to the wall. Without them, the silicone would not be strong enough to support the weight.
Hey! Now, over a year later, are they still holding onto the wall well? Did that little extra pitch cause any issues with wet bottles sliding off?
Still holding strong. We haven't had any issues with anything sliding off. Thanks for watching.
I've looked all over and can't find that shelf. Where did you purchase it. Thanks.
You can buy them at a local "glass" shop. They make them to order or sometimes have them already made at standard dimensions.
Dear Mr. Rogers sir, this was great..... I learned how to better use silicone. pierre from New Mexico (p.s. I am legal alien)
Glad to share techniques that I have learned along the way. Thanks for watching.
pierre5325 Aw I'm sorry you feel you have to say that. People are so judgmental it hurts my heart. We're all human my friend
Where do I buy the glass corner shelf at ?
Thanks for sharing, any updates on this?
We moved a couple years ago, but I know who lives there now and still holding up
I need to make sure to angle down on purpose so that the water does not collect in the corner.
I didn't get the part of the soapy water. If you put soapy water all over, where does the silicone is going to stick?
You apply the bead of silicone first, so it’s already stuck, but before you smooth the bead, you spray the soapy water to prevent it from sticking anywhere other than where the silicone has already touched.
where do you get the glass shelving and the plastic support?
Stanley Bogus There's a link in the description to everything I've used. You can probably get all except for the shelves locally from a hardware/home improvement store.
The links for the corner protectors don’t seem to have the product any more…anyone know where to get them from?
Any home improvement store should have them near the wallpaper. I’ll try to find a valid link later
Shop ka kya name h hme khridna h
Do you think the corner molding and tape will look ok on darker tile
Kathy Collins they’re both clear, so it should look fine.
Dustin Rogers thanks, can’t wait to try it in my new shower. I’ve been looking for weeks for corner shelves and couldn’t find anything I liked.
I know the feeling. Good luck to you. I hope you're as happy with yours as we are with ours. Thanks for watching.
Tried this. Waiting for sealant to cure
Hey Dustin, where did you get the corner shelves???
Paul Gieselman link is in the description. Thanks for watching.
Ah yes... thank you sir.
Hey, are the shelves still holding up?
Going on 3 years and they are still holding up great.
Where did you source the plastic pieces you used for mounting?
They are corner protectors for wall paper. Look near wall coverings at the home improvement stores
Wouldn't the heat and moisture break the tape down?
Still holding strong all these years later
How is this holding up
We moved in Oct 2020, but it was still holding strong then.
Hello, you are probably tired of this question. But is it still holding up?
Google User still holding up great.
@@DustinRogersinMO Awesome thanks!
Well,I did some plumbing for him at his place last year , dudes gallon tub of “beard accelerator” totally wiped out all 3 of those Gorilla taped up shelves……….lol , JK JK, THAT IS ACTUALLY A REAL SMART METHOD 👌THX.
How’s this holding up, 2 years later?
Martin Kalpakchiev going on 3 years and still holding strong and looking great. Some others in the comments have mentioned using a wider clear corner protector for a larger bonding surface and only using silicone instead of the tape and silicone. I haven’t heard how those are holding up though. Mine’s been great.
@@DustinRogersinMO yeah just the same thing in the bathroom. Came out pretty good, the silicone was a mess 😁 much easier than drilling through the grout or tile
Dustin, this is awesome! Do you think it would work without being in a corner?
molly meyer I doubt it since the corner provides support in two directions. I don’t think there would be enough support from a single anchor point on the wall to hold any contents on the shelf.

Where do you get the plastic bar
Where can I get the plastic angle bar?
@@leoking9241 there’s links in the description, or you can find it at any home center. Just ask for clear corner protectors. Typically found near the wallpaper.
O. 2nd of 4 fell last night. Deliberately removed final 2 as I was fortunate they didn’t smash or harm the tile. Metal braces are on order and I will, unfortunately, have to drill anchor holes in my newly renovated bathroom. Cannot afford shelving coming loose in the bathroom of my almost 88 year old Mother...
One of the 4 I installed fell down, 2 weeks later
Tight Lines® sorry that happened. Mine are still holding strong 4 years later
Don’t think it’s going to hold very well. Drilling into tiles is the way to go. Or at least use aluminum support brackets
It’s held up for 6 years of daily use…but thanks for your comment
That plastic will eventually colour and end up looking shite. Silicone will have been fine for the glass, without plastic.
Still looks great after 3 years. Thanks for the comment.
Bruhhhhhhhhh
beardy
That's actually not the proper way to do that.
L.C. So what is the proper way to install glass corner shelves so the installation can be removed with no traces left in the future? If you watched until the end I explain that I didn’t want to drill holes in the tile or scuff the face of the tile. I also didn’t want a permanent installation where the shelves are installed between the tiles before grouting. There’s more than one way to do things and this method is still holding up great now almost 4 years later.
