Ocean Walker Academy - From Concept to Completion

- In 2017 Adam Walker and his partner Gemma Clarke moved into a disused Goat Farm with the dream to convert the property into an access for all swimming facility. The couple embarked on a long process of cleaning up the farm, planning permission and a lot of hard graft. Just as the first Covid lockdown hit, Adam and Gemma unable to work (as most the nation), set to and began the first stage of their project - the digging of the open water swimming lake!
The lake was designed by the pair to be as safe as possible for swimmers with 3 ramped entry/exit points covered in astroturf for safe footing. A shallow area for beginners, youngsters and disabilities that require care assistance. The clay ground created a natural sealed base, and a big surprise was to find beautiful crystals millions of years old formed in the rocks dug from the ground right under their feet, which felt very apt considering the intention for the venue is to be for wellbeing as well as swim training. We hope you enjoy the highlights of the build through to opening the gates for the very first time in June 2021.

A great place to experience open water swimming safely. I love being able to remain in my depth when I need to; everything has been thoughtfully planned and executed. Now I just need to make up my mind about a wetsuit!
