  • You'd never know it, but we've wanted to play Ginga Force for a very long time. A lot of things got in the way, though. But now, Rising Star Games has made Qute's 2013 follow-up to Eschatos very widely - and affordably - available. So was it worth the wait? Let's see how it stacks up!

This is for me at least , the perfect shoot em up ever created , i love Eschatos but i love more Ginga force because pull to the limit the studio and put all good new ideas , this is the most fun , challenge, and visual apealing shoot em up , the seting and context, i just love this game even when they came out on 2012 ( i played the x360 ver) i even today this is the best shoot em up .
    And THE OST is 100/10

I've just completed Eschatos...what a game, even better than Natsuki Chronicles! I'd give Eschatos 4.75/5.00. I'm not the best at schmups and literally just got Ginga Force on Steam...it sure is harder (I would consider 'easy' to be more like normal personally) but already I can tell I'm gonna love it. The OST sounds great. I love being able to buy bits for your ship like on Sky Force Reloaded, which was the schmup that got me into the genre. I think I'm gonna get a LOT of hours out of this!

    *ERRATA*
Main Weapon power decreases whether shots are fired or not. Only the Subweapon decreaes through use.
Judgement Force Tiger and Drgpn have 32 stages, not 40.

Great review as always, Qute really knows how to make really good SHMUPs, despite being a really small team. The OST is a sell on its own, 'Gallant Gunshot', 'Dubious Dealer' and 'Free Flight' are personal favorites of mine. I also love how they brought back the weapons of Arkham from Eschatos, that's just nice
I also have some points to clear out:
The main gun's power is constantly lowering, it doesn't matter if you shoot or not, only the sub weapon depletes if you keep firing it.
The Judgement Training stages have 32 levels each, not 40, it's the stage count Judgement Silversword has, if we count 'Divine Expression' and 'Mitsurugi Rebirth/Judgement Silversword' as separate stages, despite them not having 'Area 31/32' shown.
Score Attack's scoring is a bit different from Story Mode's scoring, because much like Qute's previous games, you can earn multipliers, but I'm not sure if it's tied to enemy destruction, collecting CR or both.
And that's about it. Much like you, I am also looking forward to Natsuki Chronicles and I am curious with what indie games you'll cover.

Oh man, another on the list.
Was playing Eschatos, Judgement Silver Sword, and Cardinal Sins earlier today. Definitely gonna want this.
The "Wonder Pack on Steam makes me wince a little.. I made the mistake of buying E&J separately, cost myself the OST.
I mean, buying the DLC isn't an issue, its dirt cheap especially on a sale. It's just the fact I jumped the gun like an idiot instead of doing my research.

Heck yeah, this is definitely a shmup lovers holy grail imo. Between the weapon variety & cast of characters, this is a close to getting a sequel to Radiant Silvergun, as we are liable to ever see : D

"We lost interest, it fell to the wayside, and then it blew up in price..." - That should be the mantra of every shooter released on a console! Great review as always and I'm happy that this one saw a digital revival for most of the current consoles. It's a shame that Natsuki Chronicles cost as much as it does. Due to obscurity and high cost, I'm afraid that one will get pulled from the digital stores.
Why can't Limited Run focus on this stuff instead of weird indie stuff?

I wasn't able to get any information, unfortunately. It would definitely be nice, but considering Natsuki Chronicle didn't get a physical, it seems like a stretch. The game's framerate is all over the place after my 4th playthrough, stutters, slow down, unresponsive controls (PS4 pro) . When a letter boss spawns(GRANDM) , the game turns into a slide show. The Unity Engine struggles on console, it's only for pc.

Picked this up on your recommendation
Glad it was only a tenner.
Having to play levels upteen times just to get enough lives to make it through even on easy stinks of crap and lazy game design. It's fun enough early on but the last two stages are too frustrating to stick with it. Some of the final boss's attacks just seem impossible to avoid.
Would also would have been handy to have an English language translation of the spoken dialog, given that the characters are sometimes giving you tips. Looking at the stop right creen to check what they are saying in mid battle isn't too practical.
