@@craigpringle5937 My understanding is that Johnston was a field commander general at this time and General Lee was not. However General Johnston was killed in this battle. My understanding is General Grant had Generals above him during this battle which was just one year into the war. General Samuel Cooper was actually the highest ranking General of the South. This is all from research I did on my own I did not learn this in school. Very good question.

Just started watching but I was wondering why Robert E Lee was not there when you think of the civil war you think of Lee and Grant
